Chapter 25
In the end, Mu Ci remained oblivious to his injury. Although the injury was in a private and tender place, it turned out to be quite minor. The few drops of blood were not from a deep wound but rather a shallow scratch.
By noon, after Mu Ci woke up, the injury had already healed significantly, influenced by the medicine.
Mu Ci’s mood was darker than before. When he opened his eyes, along with the nutritious lunch delivered to his bedside, there was also an engagement contract and a black signature pen.
“Don’t forget the promise you made last night,” Gu Huai stood beside the bed, arms crossed, looking down at him.
Mu Ci glanced at him indifferently, then slowly stretched out his hand. Instead of picking up the pen, he grabbed the small spoon next to the rice porridge and started to eat slowly.
Gu Huai’s face darkened momentarily, but he quickly suppressed his anger. “Fine, eat first if you’re hungry. I’ll keep an eye on you. If you dare not to sign, believe me or not…!”
Gu Huai left the threat hanging.
Mu Ci’s hand holding the spoon paused, and he finished half a bowl of vegetarian porridge with a few light side dishes. He then took a tissue, wiped his mouth, and reached for the engagement contract to read it carefully.
Last time, when forced to sign, Mu Ci was so angry that he barely read the engagement contract. This time, he was much calmer. The initial shock subsided, and with a plan in mind, he quickly regained composure.
Mu Ci scanned the contract from start to finish. It was a standard engagement contract without any traps. It even mentioned the possibility of divorce if the marriage didn’t work out.
Mu Ci couldn’t help but sneer. Agree to divorce? Knowing Gu Huai’s temperament, getting a divorce would likely be an impossible task.
Closing his eyes, Mu Ci sighed deeply. Finding some courage, he signed his name with the pen.
“Good.” Gu Huai grabbed Mu Ci’s chin, kissed him twice as if to reward him, then picked up the engagement contract and admired Mu Ci’s signature with satisfaction.
“This is legally binding. If you dare to break our agreement, I’ll take you to court, and I will sue you for adultery.”
Mu Ci: “…”
At that moment, Bai Ling knocked on the door and entered to inform Gu Huai about something, pausing to collect the dishes. When he heard Gu Huai’s startling words, he stumbled.
Bai Ling stood up, cynically complaining in his heart, ‘You, shamelessly thing ignoring the law, taking nude photos, threatening people to sign, and putting them under house arrest. Now, you’re talking about taking people to the court, do you still see yourself as a good citizen, Young Master Gu?’
When Gu Huai turned to see Bai Ling, the smile on his lips vanished immediately. “What?”
Bai Ling: “…”
‘Isn’t the difference in treatment too obvious? Why don’t you even spare me a smile? Your smile seems to be a precious commodity. Is it that valuable?’
Despite complaining internally, Bai Ling maintained a composed expression. He bowed politely, informing Gu Huai that a business banquet was about to begin, and he should prepare to attend.
Gu Huai nodded, then turned to Mu Ci with a smile, “Rest for a while. When you feel better, take a walk in the garden behind. Afterward, I’ll register your household, and we’ll go get the certificate.”
Mu Ci remained silent, calmly shifting his gaze to the window.
This action displeased Gu Huai a bit. He was about to leave but turned back, pressing Mu Ci for a lingering farewell kiss before leaving with satisfaction.
Mu Ci watched the black business car exit the house gate from the window, then drew the curtains tight and called Chen Jie.
“…Yes, it’s still about work, as I mentioned last time,” Mu Ci softly spoke beside the bed. “I still want to work at your place… Well, I know it’s Gu Huai’s place too. He didn’t mind me to work there this time. Yes, you can ask him.”
After a pause, Mu Ci continued, “I have a request. Can you pay me in cash?”
Chen Jie sounded puzzled on the phone, “What? You don’t have a bank card?”
” …Yes.”
Before Mu Ci learned how to shop online, Gu Huai had opened a bank card in his name and helped him link the account. There was a considerable amount of money in it, but Mu Ci never used it.
“But I want cash.” Mu Ci was adamant about this point. He had read enough information to know that using a bank card could be traced. If he didn’t want to be caught when withdrawing money from the bank after escaping, Mu Ci needed to have enough cash prepared.
“Okay…” Chen Jie replied hesitantly, “I’ll ask Young Master Gu to see when we can arrange for you to start working.”
Mu Ci hummed softly and said, “Thank you.”
He hung up the phone and gently rubbed his wrist, still adorned with purple bruises on his fair skin—Gu Huai seemed to enjoy holding his hand, as if deliberately keeping him from escaping.
Mu Ci looked in the mirror and lowered the collar of his sweater. True to his expectation, there were hickeys scattered across his neck. His face darkened instantly, and a sense of discomfort enveloped him. Nowhere felt clean. Gu Huai’s touch from last night seemed to linger on his body.
Mu Ci couldn’t help but flinch, turned around, and entered the bathroom, undressing for a shower.
.
Upon entering, Mu Ci was surprised. On the shelf embedded in the wall, alongside shampoo and shower gel, there was a neat row of rubber ducks—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Every color was represented.
Mu Ci stood there for a moment, then turned on the faucet. “…He is so childish.”
.
After attending the evening banquet, Young Master Gu returned. He overheard Mu Ci mention this during dinner, and he immediately erupted, “Am I childish? I bought them for you to play within the bath because I saw you liked them! Do you know how hard it is to assemble a complete set?!”
Mu Ci looked at him coldly, “I just like the yellow ones.”
“…” Gu Huai felt that all his sincere efforts were in vain. Taking a bite of his steak, he gritted his teeth and said, “Fine, I’ll have someone buy you hundreds of yellow ones tomorrow!”
Mu Ci moved to get dessert without reacting, but Gu Huai gently slapped his hand away, “Eat your meal first; you can have sweets after.”
Mu Ci looked at him with a bitter expression, angrily taking back his hand.
Gu Huai was also annoyed. He kindly reminded him to eat healthily, and he still give me a glare?
He thought Mu Ci was a bit ungrateful, but he had no intention of publicly seeking revenge. “Come to the company for an interview tomorrow. Prepare for it tonight.”
“Interview?” Mu Ci was taken aback.
Originally, Gu Huai had no intention of making him go through a formal process; he was considering a more straightforward approach. However, now he wanted to tease Mu Ci, to see how anxious and nervous he would get.
“Yes, do you want to take the easy way in?”
Mu Ci bit his lip, feeling uneasy. It was like having an upcoming exam. The teacher promised you a pass, but then you entered the exam room without studying. Just as the exam was about to begin, the teacher regretted it and said you had to rely on yourself—answer the questions on your own merits.
This caught Mu Ci off guard. If he failed the interview, it would jeopardize his escape plan.
Gu Huai narrowed his eyes, looking at him maliciously. “But if you want to take the easy way, that’s fine.”
Mu Ci frowned, sensing that Gu Huai had set a trap for him.
Sure enough, Gu Huai spoke with mischief in his voice. “Let me take the back door tonight, and I’ll arrange your interview tomorrow.”
Mu Ci’s face instantly turned red. He didn’t hesitate to grab the fruit plate in front of him and threw it at Gu Huai. “Shameless!”
Gu Huai dodged the incoming fruit, laughing rather than being angry. “As expected of my wife, even when angry, you look so good. Your little appearance is truly tempting.”
As he spoke, Gu Huai entertained some wicked thoughts, contemplating whether he should have another round tonight and whether Mu Ci’s body could handle it.
Mu Ci recognized the danger, immediately tensing up and sternly stating, “Don’t even think about it. You said it yourself—to prepare well at night and not disturb me!”
“…” In the end, Gu Huai fell into the hole he dug.
Mu Ci was very suspicious of him.
Even if Gu Huai got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and tucked him in, Mu Ci would suspect that Gu Huai came specifically to do something bad.
