Chapter 30
On the way to the airport, Chi Jing didn’t speak a word. He didn’t speak on the plane either. It wasn’t because he was sulking; he simply slept all the way to the airport, then groggily went through security, boarded the plane, and slept again until they reached their destination.
When he opened his eyes, he found himself stepping onto a snowy landscape. They were recording the show in a small town near the Arctic.
This time, they had no required tourist spots to visit, no tasks to complete, and they didn’t need to carefully budget the travel funds provided by the show.
The town was very quiet, but due to its proximity to the Arctic, there were many convenient guesthouses and restaurants for travelers. When they arrived at the guesthouse prepared by the program team, he estimated that it was quite a distance from the town center where the restaurants were clustered.
The program team was clearly trying to make it inconvenient for them to get to the restaurants.
After entering the guesthouse, Gan Heyu frowned and Chi Jing silently complained, “Is this episode turning into wilderness survival?”
A staff member said, “It’s still better than wilderness survival.”
He looked around the house and said, “Yes, at least there’s heating.”
Staff: “Yes, exactly.”
“And what about food?” asked Ou’er Bai, opening the fridge and seeing it stocked with ingredients and basic seasonings. “Looks like we need to cook for ourselves.”
Lou Yiwen said, “I remember seeing many restaurants on the way here.”
The staff member quickly added, “But we don’t have a driver.”
Chi Jing called out tentatively, “Mr. Jiang?”
Jiang Yucheng smiled, “I can drive. Where do you want to go?”
Chi Jing turned to the staff, “No problem, we have someone who can drive.”
Staff: “Mr. Jiang…”
Jiang Yucheng said, “I’m telling the truth.”
Gan Heyu clapped his hands, “Great! Jiang, you’ll be our driver then.”
Jiang Yucheng said, “Wherever Mr. Chi wants to go, I’ll go.”
Gan Heyu laughed heartily but then felt something was off. Ou’er Bai and Lou Yiwen, noticing his underlying message, exchanged bewildered and surprised glances.
Clearing his throat, the staff said, “We’ll be taking the car away.”
Chi Jing asked, “So this episode’s theme is still wilderness survival?”
Staff: “…If you say so.”
He nodded, “Let’s check out the rooms.”
Everyone agreed and started exploring the house from the living room outward. The house had three floors; the third floor was a small attic with two tiny single rooms, narrow but cozy. The second floor had three rooms, and the first floor had two.
Gan Heyu chose a room on the first floor near the kitchen, saying, “I’m old, my legs hurt, and I can’t climb stairs.”
Ou’er Bai and Lou Yiwen took the best rooms on the second floor with good lighting and private bathrooms. Originally there were seven rooms; now four were left. Shen Yixing and An Boqing looked at Jiang Yucheng, the highest-ranking celebrity among them, while Chi Jing was completely overlooked.
With a bright smile, An Boqing said, “Mr. Jiang, you choose first. The rooms on the second floor are bigger, and the first floor is convenient for luggage.”
“I’ll stay in the attic,” Jiang Yucheng said, disregarding his suggestions.
Shen Yixing, stunned, dryly advised, “Brother Jiang, the attic rooms are small and cramped.”
“Yes, I know,” Jiang Yucheng replied. “Shall we share the attic?”
Chi Jing rolled his eyes internally, thinking, “Who wants to share the attic with you?” But out loud, he said, “Sure.”
And so, the two ended up sharing the attic. The two attic rooms were separated by a wooden partition with a decorative design in the middle, making it easy to see into the adjacent room.
Chi Jing entered his room, placed his luggage in a corner, and flopped onto the bed. Jiang Yucheng followed him in, adjusting his luggage properly.
“Are you tired?” He asked.
“A little,” Chi Jing replied, face down on the bed, his wings and tail having grown large. Luckily, it was cold, and he wore enough clothes to hide them.
Jiang Yucheng left the room briefly but soon returned. “The bathroom is clean.”
Chi Jing got up slowly, saying, “I’m going to take a shower. It’s so cold, I should just stay in bed.”
The third floor had its own small bathroom. Chi Jing emerged from the bathroom in thin pajamas, his face flushed from the steam.
Perhaps from being in the bathroom too long, his face was flushed. He walked sluggishly to a small wooden chair and sat down to rest. His sleepwear was loosely tied, exposing part of his chest. Jiang Yucheng, coming out of his room, saw him slumped over the chair, daydreaming.
“Are you feeling unwell?” He asked, placing the back of his hand on his forehead.
“A bit,” Chi Jing said groggily. “I’m so hot.”
His sleepwear’s side ties were loose, revealing more of his chest. Jiang Yucheng felt the alarming heat from his forehead and quickly helped him back into bed.
“You’re burning up, Chi Jing.”
“Me? A fever?” Chi Jing murmured, his mind foggy. “Impossible, I’m not human.”
Jiang Yucheng didn’t argue, guiding Chi Jing’s hand to feel his own forehead.
“So hot,” he blinked his watery eyes. “I have a fever?”
“I’ll get some medicine,” Jiang Yucheng said, tucking him in. “Don’t open the window, even if you’re hot.”
Chi Jing, feeling too hot, tried to kick off the covers but Jiang Yucheng stopped him. He muttered a few responses and as soon as he left, kicked off the covers and lay face down on the pillow.
Still feeling too hot, he took off his sleepwear. When Jiang Yucheng returned with medicine and a thermometer, he saw Chi Jing lying naked on the dark bedspread, his porcelain-like back revealing his bat wings.
Keeping a calm demeanor, he touched the tip of the bat wings.
“Ugh,” Chi Jing moaned, his body softening. He opened his watery eyes, making a comfortable sound. Controlling his desire, Jiang Yucheng took out the thermometer.
“Let’s check your temperature.”
Chi Jing glanced at it and asked, “How do I use this?”
Jiang Yucheng lifted his arm, placing the thermometer under it. The cold glass made him shiver involuntarily.
“So cold…”
Jiang Yucheng covered him with the kicked-off blankets again. “Keep it there and don’t let it fall.”
He added, “And don’t kick off the covers.”
Probably due to his illness, Chi Jing’s eyes were red at the corners.
“But I’m so hot.”
“I’ll cool you down,” Jiang Yucheng said, firmly his movements. He wrapped ice in a towel and placed it on his forehead.
Feeling relieved, Chi Jing didn’t kick off the blankets again.
