After the car accident, my boyfriend got straight

Chapter 8

The next morning, when Jiang Shiyu came downstairs, he was surprised to see someone sitting at the dining table. He thought he was still dreaming and stared at Shen Li’s back for a while before walking lightly down the stairs to the dining table.

The housekeeper thoughtfully served him breakfast. He politely thanked her. Shen Li looked up just in time to see his sweet and soft smile. When their eyes met, the smile was still on Jiang Shiyu’s face.

Shen Li couldn’t avoid it and wondered if he smiled that sweetly at everyone.

Jiang Shiyu, having just washed his face, still had some moisture on it. His long and thick eyelashes clumped together like small brushes, making him look almost unreal. He seemed to have forgotten Shen Li’s previous harsh threats and greeted him familiarly, “Good morning, are you not going out today?”

For the past half month, Shen Li had been leaving early every day, often before Jiang Shiyu even woke up. It was obvious to anyone that he was avoiding someone.

Shen Li stirred his milk with a frown, sounding impatient, “I can stay home if I want or go out if I want.”

Jiang Shiyu wasn’t deterred by his tone. He glanced at the housekeeper still busy in the kitchen and leaned closer to him, the scent of jasmine filling the air. Before Shen Li could react, a slender hand tugged at his sleeve.

Jiang Shiyu looked up at him, his damp eyelashes thick and innocent. He leaned closer and whispered cautiously, “If you don’t want to drink it, just secretly pour it into my cup, and I’ll drink it for you.”

Shen Li stared at him, who looked like a kitten cuddling up to him, his mind going blank for a moment. The housekeeper was already done in the kitchen and about to come over.

Panicking, Jiang Shiyu grabbed Shen Li’s cup, poured the milk into his own, and quickly sat back down, straightening up.

“Li, did you finish your milk? The madam insisted you have a cup every day.” The housekeeper came over and, seeing his empty cup, felt very pleased.

Shen Li had never liked milk, finding it fishy.

But after his car accident and surgery, even though he was recovering quickly, Bai Yun still worried about her son and made sure the housekeeper prepared a cup of milk for him every day to help with calcium.

Every morning this week, he had been scowling over breakfast, looking as if he were being forced to drink poison.

Once the housekeeper was out of sight, Jiang Shiyu relaxed, no longer sitting stiffly.

Usually, it was Shen Li who helped him deal with food he didn’t like, but today was the first time he had helped him.

He took a big gulp of the milk, foam sticking to his rosy lips. He licked them and said seriously to Shen Li, “I’ll help you this once, but you should drink it yourself from now on.

Even though the doctor said your broken bones are healing well, you still need to drink milk to make sure you don’t have any future issues.”

He looked quite earnest, like he knew what he was talking about, though the milk foam around his lips made him look a bit silly. Shen Li, watching his mouth move, saw a glimpse of his small red tongue and felt a tug at his heartstrings.

Still mumbling, Jiang Shiyu was cut off when Shen Li stuffed a piece of bread into his mouth with a fork, silencing him.

“Mmph…” His mouth formed an O, his eyes full of confusion.

“Just eat, you little sickly thing.”

That morning, Shen Li stayed in the villa instead of going out, but since the car accident, they had been sleeping in separate rooms and hardly saw each other despite living under the same roof.

After resting at noon, Jiang Shiyu came downstairs with a backpack. The housekeeper, watering the garden, was surprised to see him. “Shiyu, are you going out?”

He nodded. “Auntie, I’m going to a tutoring session.”

Since he was taken in by the Shen family in his senior year of high school, he had been left a significant inheritance by his parents, enough for a comfortable life.

But since moving in with the Shen family, all his expenses were covered by them. Bai Yun had repeatedly told him not to worry about money, focusing instead on his health and studies.

However, after his college entrance exams, he insisted on tutoring to earn extra money. Despite his soft and agreeable nature, he was quite stubborn about this.

Bai Yun, knowing she couldn’t change his mind, allowed it but warned him not to overwork himself and to take care of his health.

She was lenient, but Shen Li had been upset about it, arguing with him for half a month. He didn’t want him to tutor, worried about his poor health.

Jiang Shiyu, confident in his well-being, ignored the warnings. That was their biggest fight, with Shen Li spending his days at the gym, punching until his knuckles bled and were bandaged.

He couldn’t even hold chopsticks properly, but Jiang Shiyu pretended not to notice, continuing with his tutoring. After half a month of cold shoulders, one day he came out of a student’s house to find him waiting in the snow, bruised and with a cut lip.

They stood silently for a few seconds before Jiang Shiyu walked over and hugged him, kissing his injured lip as snow fell around them.

From then on, no matter where he went to tutor, Shen Li would drive him there and wait for him. He didn’t say anything, knowing this was Shen Li’s way of compromising.

Before the car accident, he had just finished a tutoring job. With his recovery progressing, parents were eager to book sessions with him. He was popular for his good looks, patient demeanor, and effective teaching, never short of work.

Today, he had a trial session scheduled, with the parent offering a high fee. He, feeling idle at home, agreed to it.

The housekeeper, worried about his health, objected. “Shiyu, you’re not fully recovered. You shouldn’t be tutoring yet.”

“Auntie, I’ve rested enough. Tutoring isn’t strenuous, and today’s session is short.”

“That’s not acceptable. I’ll call the madam.”

He had no choice but to wait by the door. The housekeeper quickly returned, saying, “Shiyu, the madam said that since there’s no driver available today, she’s worried and wants you to reschedule.”

There were two drivers in the family, one with Shen Qinglin and the other alternating between helping Bai Yun and the children. Today, both were out.

He understood Bai Yun’s concern but didn’t want to back out of his commitment. Taking the phone from the housekeeper, he spoke sweetly, “Aunt Bai Yun.”

“Sweetie, I’m worried since there’s no one to drive you. Can you wait until the driver is back?”

“But Aunt Bai Yun, I’ve already promised the parents. It’s irresponsible to back out now.”

Tutoring relied on reputation, and he didn’t want to break his promise. Bai Yun, knowing she couldn’t persuade him, told him to wait a moment.

As he checked the time, getting anxious, Shen Li came down from upstairs, his long strides quickly bringing him to Jiang Shiyu.

Jiang Shiyu, ready for his session, had changed into a light shirt, khaki shorts, and casual shoes, with a large hat to shield him from the sun. His backpack seemed heavy, almost toppling him over.

Looking like a student going on a field trip, Shen Li recalled Bai Yun’s call asking him to drive him and wondered if anyone would actually believe he was there to tutor.

Seeing the time running out, Jiang Shiyu didn’t question Shen Li’s presence and headed for the door, intending to call a car. But before he could step out, Shen Li grabbed his backpack and pulled him back.

“Shen Li, what are you doing?”

His soft complaint sounded more like a whine.

“Wait at the door. I’ll get the car.”

Leaving that command, he grabbed the car keys and headed to the garage, taking Jiang Shiyu’s backpack with him, making him feel much lighter.

He soon drove up, and Jiang Shiyu quickly got in the passenger seat, buckled up, and thanked him quietly.

He knew Bai Yun must have called Shen Li to drive him.

Shen Li glanced at him, mocking, “You really are like a schoolboy.”

Jiang Shiyu didn’t catch that, turning to him in confusion, “What did you say? I didn’t hear.”

“Nothing, just sit tight.”

“Wait, wait…” The housekeeper rushed out with a cup of freshly squeezed juice. “Shiyu, take this for the afternoon. Be careful on the road.”

“Thank you, Auntie. We will.” He nodded obediently.

The black car quickly left the villa. Jiang Shiyu, watching Shen Li drive, felt relieved seeing him handle the car skillfully. He was worried about any lingering trauma from their recent accident.

“What are you looking at?”

Caught off guard, he quickly averted his gaze.

“Nothing, just drive slowly. There’s no rush.”

Sensing his concern, Shen Li eased up on the gas, slowing down.

Feeling the reduced speed, Jiang Shiyu relaxed, his head nodding to the car’s music.
