Chapter 45
When they got home, Jiang Shiyu trailed closely behind Shen Li like a little shadow. He didn’t say anything, just stared at him with big, dark eyes. Shen Li couldn’t resist his cuteness and ended up holding his face and giving him a few kisses.
Jiang Shiyu wriggled free and wiped his face with the back of his hand.
“Ugh, are you disgusted with me?” Shen Li asked.
Jiang Shiyu pouted, “You promised to take photos of me, and you said there would be a surprise.”
Shen Li couldn’t help but chuckle. Jiang Shiyu was like a child—impatient and curious like a little explorer.
“Alright, I’ll take your photos, but the sun’s too strong outside. Let’s put on some sunscreen first, or you’ll get sunburned.”
Jiang Shiyu clattered up the stairs in his slippers to find the sunscreen, while Shen Li rummaged through the TV cabinet and pulled out a brand-new camera.
It was the same camera Jiang Shiyu had missed out on at the amusement park last time. Shen Li had later ordered one from a digital store. It had arrived a while ago, but with Jiang Shiyu’s illness and all the unexpected events, he hadn’t had a chance to pick it up until just before they came to the seaside.
He held the camera in one hand, inspecting the lens, smiling to himself as he imagined Jiang Shiyu’s reaction when he saw it.
Hearing footsteps at the top of the stairs, he quickly hid the camera back under the TV cabinet. Jiang Shiyu walked over with the sunscreen.
“It’s hard to apply on the back of my neck—can you help me?” he said as he sat down backwards on the chair, tilting his head to expose the nape of his neck.
His skin was naturally fair, and after spending all winter in the hospital, it was even paler, almost glowing. His slender neck was faintly marked with remnants of Shen Li’s affection.
Shen Li had a habit of biting his nape in bed, like a large predator seizing its prey, sinking its teeth into the vulnerable spot to immobilize it.
The white sunscreen spread across his skin, leaving a glossy sheen.
“Let it dry a bit to form a layer; otherwise, it’ll stick to your hair.”
Jiang Shiyu obediently kept his head down like a little swan, waiting patiently.
Once everything was ready, they headed to where the sand met the shore. Shen Li took a few test shots of Jiang Shiyu. The composition and lighting were fine, but the person in the photos seemed stiff and posed.
“Relax, sweetheart. Don’t look at me—just enjoy playing in the water.”
Jiang Shiyu rarely took photos. At school, he was mostly captured in candid shots, and the few times he did pose were during group activities, like the carnival last time.
Even now, with Shen Li behind the camera, he still felt awkward, not knowing what to do with his hands and feet.
He crouched down, his long, dense lashes casting shadows like little fans. “Aren’t you going to take photos with me?”
He was intrigued by the idea of couple photos after a photographer mentioned they could capture many beautiful moments. He realized that, despite being with Shen Li for so long, they had never taken a proper picture together. After Shen Li’s car accident and memory loss, he often reminisced about their past, but he had little to hold onto in reality—just fragments in his memory.
Shen Li tilted his head, his deep-set eyes brimming with affection. “Let’s each take a few solo shots first, then we’ll take some together.”
Jiang Shiyu agreed and started playing with the water. He watched as the waves rolled in from a distance, washing over his ankles, covering his feet in sand like pearls dusted with earth. He scooped up a handful of water and poured it over his legs to rinse off the sand, only for the waves to sweep in again and dirty them once more. Patiently, he repeated the process.
Standing a short distance away, Shen Li wasn’t taking photos but recording a video. Even though the scene was monotonous and repetitive, he watched with tender eyes, his heart melting.
He knew he was deeply in love and had accepted everything about Jiang Shiyu with open arms.
While Jiang Shiyu was focused on the water, a small glass bottle washed ashore. It was the kind of tiny wishing bottle you used to find at convenience stores, filled with colorful glass beads and a note inside.
He stared at the bottle by his feet, stunned, before picking it up and turning to look at Shen Li.
Shen Li, putting away the phone he had used to record, walked over. “What’s up?”
“I found a wishing bottle.”
“That’s great, you’re lucky.”
It was clearly a lighthearted remark, but Jiang Shiyu’s lips curved into a small smile. “But it’s someone else’s wishing bottle.”
Shen Li took it from him, twirling it in his fingers and quickly noticing the note inside.
“‘Be together with *** forever.’”
“So childish.”
“So romantic.”
They both spoke at the same time. Jiang Shiyu immediately clamped his mouth shut after realizing what he had said.
Shen Li heard his words and, seeing the expression on his face, suddenly tossed the wishing bottle into Jiang Shiyu’s arms. Startled, Jiang Shiyu fumbled to catch it, afraid it might break.
Shen Li said nothing and turned to head back to the villa. A few minutes later, he returned with two 250ml glass bottles, along with some blank paper and markers.
He handed one of the glass bottles to him.
“Let’s write our wishes.”
Jiang Shiyu stared dumbfounded at the bottle, then asked, “Isn’t this the glass bottle from the fridge that had juice in it?”
“Yeah, I poured the juice out. They’re all glass bottles, more or less the same. Besides, this one is bigger, so when we throw it in the sea, it’ll sink straight down and won’t get washed ashore and thrown away as trash.”
That actually made sense, leaving Jiang Shiyu with no argument. He even noticed the juice brand logo still on the bottle.
“But didn’t you just say it was childish?”
Shen Li was in the middle of opening a marker to write his wish. He paused for a moment before mumbling, “Don’t listen to me. Who hasn’t dreamed of sending a message in a bottle at the beach?”
Jiang Shiyu squinted and smiled, squatting beside him as he happily started writing his wish on a piece of paper.
“What did you write? Let me see.”
Shen Li’s note was simple, just a single sentence. He leaned over to peek at Jiang Shiyu’s note as well. He didn’t hide it and openly showed him.
“I hope Shen Li will always love me.”
For a moment, Shen Li felt like someone had punched him in the chest, leaving a bittersweet ache.
Unable to resist, he pressed a kiss to his forehead. “I’ll always love you.”
The sunset, the twilight sky, and the wishes in the bottle—these wishes didn’t need to rely on the sea to come true. Loving Jiang Shiyu was something Shen Li had already etched into his heart.
Jiang Shiyu leaned closer to see his note. It read, “I hope Jiang Shiyu stays healthy and happy.”
He looked up and gave him a gentle kiss in return.
They stuffed their notes into the glass bottles, filled them with sand, and tightly sealed the caps. Shen Li thought the bottles looked a bit plain, so he found some colorful markers in the villa and doodled on them. He drew two mini Q-version characters, along with palm trees, a beach, and some juice.
“Alright, let’s throw them into the sea.”
He was about to toss the bottle when Jiang Shiyu stopped him.
“What’s wrong?”
Jiang Shiyu hesitated, “Isn’t it too shallow here? The waves might just wash them back ashore.”
Shen Li thought for a moment and agreed. It made sense—he didn’t care if other people’s wishing bottles got washed up, but his and Jiang Shiyu’s bottle had to drift properly.
“I’ve got it. There are people nearby who go out to sea every day. I’ll pay them a bit to take our bottles out to deeper waters and drop them there. That way, they won’t easily wash ashore.”
Jiang Shiyu found this plan reasonable. Back at the villa, he tied the two bottles together with some string, hoping they would stay together even while drifting in the sea.
After dinner, Shen Li got a call from Chen Xu, who said he would arrive by plane the next morning and get there by noon. Jiang Shiyu asked if Li Muzi was coming along.
“Don’t worry, I’m with Chen Xu,” Li Muzi’s cheerful voice came through the phone.
Chen Xu’s voice followed right after, “Could you please pack your things before playing games? And if the food isn’t to your liking, don’t just take one bite and leave the rest. Don’t complain later that I’m mistreating you.”
Their bickering continued over the phone, annoying Shen Li enough that he hung up.
Jiang Shiyu leaned in with a puzzled look. “I feel like something’s up with them.”
Shen Li pinched his cheek. After all that time being sick, the little bit of weight he’d gained was gone again. The plan to fatten up this little cat needed to be put back on the agenda.
“What’s up with them? Haven’t they always been like that? Arguing whenever they’re together.”
Jiang Shiyu was usually slow when it came to matters of the heart, but since Li Muzi was his best friend, he had noticed something different this time.
“Want some coconut juice? There’s fresh coconut in the kitchen. I’ll get one for you.”
Shen Li didn’t let him dwell on it too long, leaning in to kiss him as he asked.
After returning from his medical checkup abroad, Jiang Shiyu noticed that he had changed. Before losing his memory, Shen Li was already overly indulgent towards him, always fulfilling his every wish. But now, besides indulging him, he had also become exceptionally clingy. Jiang Shiyu, due to his family background, had always lacked a sense of security. In the past, when they first got together, it was him who clung to Shen Li, fearing that hewould eventually grow tired of him for being too needy.
But now the roles had reversed; Shen Li was like a lion in heat, constantly sticking close to him, finding every opportunity to kiss and touch him. While Jiang Shiyu secretly enjoyed it, he had read online that couples should maintain some distance to keep the relationship from becoming stale.
Silently, he tried to wiggle out of his embrace. He barely moved half an inch before being grabbed back and placed directly onto Shen Li’s lap, legs spread across him.
“I asked if you wanted coconut water. Where do you think you’re sneaking off to?”
Jiang Shiyu, being smaller than him by a size, dangled his feet in the air, having lost his slippers somewhere along the way.
“Shen Li, have you ever heard of the seven-year itch?” he asked nervously, carefully testing the waters.
Shen Li raised an eyebrow, signaling him to continue.
“We’re always together, constantly in each other’s presence. Right now, it’s all love and passion, and we only see each other’s good sides. But as time goes by, when the heat fades and routine sets in, won’t we get bored of each other?”
As he spoke, Shen Li’s expression grew darker, and the casual smile vanished from his face. “What, are you already getting tired of me even though we’ve just started living together?”
Jiang Shiyu quickly shook his head in denial. “No, it’s not that. I read online that people say love eventually turns into familial affection, and when the passion fades, all that’s left is a numbness, just going through the motions.”
He lowered his head, nervously fidgeting with his fingers. “You’re handsome, smart, come from a good family, and you’ll only get better after graduation. But aside from being good-looking, I have nothing to offer. You’ll get bored of me eventually—what happens then?”
Shen Li nearly laughed out loud from frustration. He wanted to pry open this little kitten’s head to see what was really going on inside.
So he’s aware he’s good-looking, huh?
“Jiang Shiyu, I think we shouldn’t throw those bottles we wrote our wishes in into the sea. We should keep them on the nightstand so you can see what I wrote every day when you wake up.”
Jiang Shiyu looked up with wide, innocent eyes, blinking at him.
Shen Li, exasperated, pinched his waist and then gave him a sharp slap on the backside, producing a crisp sound.
Jiang Shiyu was caught off guard, only realizing what had happened when a stinging pain shot through him.
“Ow!”
Still unsatisfied, Shen Li pulled his shorts down, revealing half of the tender flesh beneath. The remaining part was still hidden inside.
His rough, calloused fingers caressed the exposed skin, and when Jiang Shiyu whimpered in protest, another loud smack echoed through the room.
The delicate flesh quickly swelled.
Tears sprang to his eyes, and the sobs caught in his throat as more slaps followed, leaving him only able to cry out.
“It hurts, Shen Li, let me go.”
He struggled in his arms like a slippery fish, but Shen Li held him firmly by the waist, leaving his legs flailing helplessly like a stranded mermaid.
Shen Li was truly annoyed and decided to teach him a lesson. When he saw him crying, he leaned in to kiss his face, starting from the delicate eyelids, down his smooth cheeks, and along his pointed chin, before returning to his soft, rosy lips.
After he had his fill of teasing, he finally let him go. One hand supported Jiang Shiyu from below, feeling the warmth of the tender skin, while the other gripped his chin tightly.
“Got the message now? Are you still going to ask silly questions like that?”
Jiang Shiyu was on the verge of passing out from the spanking, his tears flowing like a broken faucet. He nodded frantically, muttering that he had learned his lesson.
Despite trying to stop, he couldn’t stop crying. Shen Li, afraid he might choke or run out of breath, gently cradled him and spoke soft, soothing words. A moment ago, he was harsh and relentless; now, he was tender and loving.
But the more he tried to comfort him, the harder Jiang Shiyu cried. He began to worry he might have really gone too far, and in his concern, he started pulling off his pants.
Jiang Shiyu didn’t even have time to struggle before the tender flesh was back in Shen Li’s grip.
“Shen Li, let me go.” He sobbed and hiccuped, too weak to resist.
Shen Li held him close, alternating between gentle coaxing and inspecting the swollen, tender area.
Jiang Shiyu’s frame was slim and delicate, with soft, fair skin, but from the waist down, he was fuller, with a rounded bottom that turned a deep red from the spanking, like a ripe peach on the verge of bursting.
“Don’t cry anymore, sweetheart. Let me rub it better for you, okay?”
Jiang Shiyu buried his face in his neck, still sniffling. As Shen Li continued his massage, the tingling sensation gradually turned into something else.
Before he realized it, Jiang Shiyu’s sobs had given way to soft whimpers, his breathy cries resembling a kitten’s purr. His delicate exhalations tickled his ear, and the warmth between them only grew.
Their bodies pressed close together, each subtle movement acutely felt by the other.
Jiang Shiyu shifted slightly, and his flushed face lowered in embarrassment.
After a moment, he leaned into Shen Li’s ear, whispering coyly, “I heard getting spanked makes it feel hotter. Want to give it a try, big brother?”
