After the car accident, my boyfriend got straight

Chapter 33

After spending a night in the hospital, they prepared to return to the dormitory. Jiang Shiyu needed proper rest, and staying in the unfamiliar and noisy hospital environment wasn’t conducive to his recovery.

Once everything was packed, Shen Li took a bottle of milk from a cup warming in hot water, inserted a straw, and placed it in his free hand.

“Sit here for a bit. I’ll go pay the fees at the front desk and then come back to get you.”

He hadn’t slept much that night, but he seemed in better spirits than Jiang Shiyu. Jiang Shiyu obediently nodded, his bangs falling over his eyes, obscuring his dark pupils.

Shen Li brushed his bangs aside. “Your hair is too long. Once you’re better, we’ll get it trimmed.”

Jiang Shiyu had no objections; he always agreed with whatever he said.

He was so obedient that even a newborn baby would fuss a bit, but he would only nod and agree with his clear, bright eyes.

In the past, he would occasionally show his claws, pretending to be fierce. But ever since Shen Li asked him to stay by his side the previous night, the little kitten had retracted its claws, not even making a sound.

After settling him, Shen Li left the room and headed to the attending physician’s office. He stayed there for half an hour, taking notes on his phone with three pages of instructions and even added the doctor on WeChat just in case.

They took a cab back to the school and entered the dormitory. The first thing he noticed was the thin summer blanket on Jiang Shiyu’s bed. The temperature had dropped significantly with the change of seasons, but Jiang Shiyu still only had a thin blanket with a plush throw on top.

Shen Li, who tended to be warm, still slept with a thin summer blanket, so he assumed Jiang Shiyu was warm enough. However, every morning, Jiang Shiyu would be curled up in a corner with cold hands and feet.

“You sit over on my bed for a bit. I’ll get you a thicker blanket,” he said, opening the wardrobe and pulling out a thick comforter from the top shelf. He tucked the corners into the cotton cover. With his height and long legs, he spread the blanket out with a swift motion, shaking it open.

Jiang Shiyu sat opposite him, resting his chin in his hand as he watched him make the bed. His long limbs were toned from years of exercise, with muscles forming small hills as he used his arms. Shen Li had a great physique; from behind, he had broad shoulders and a narrow waist, and he worked efficiently.

No wonder so many people liked him, he thought, feeling himself being drawn to him.

After making the bed, Shen Li told him to change out of the clothes he’d worn in the hospital and lie down to rest. He then went to the bathroom, closing the door behind him, and started doing something inside.

Jiang Shiyu hadn’t slept well in the hospital. Nurses came in periodically to take his temperature and change his medication, and the corridor lights flickered on and off, amplifying his unease in the unfamiliar environment. But Shen Li’s presence had been comforting.

Strangely, he recalled Shen Li sitting by his bed the previous night, his gaze downcast, speaking in a steady yet intense voice, asking him to stay by his side.

Despite the pungent smell of disinfectant in the air, he had sensed something like the fizzing of soda bubbles bursting in the room, mirroring his racing heartbeat.

Lying in bed, he turned over, a faint blush coloring his pale cheeks. Outside, the sycamore leaves had turned yellow, scattered by the wind to form a golden carpet along the roadsides. The curtains fluttered in the breeze, with diffused light filtering in from outside. The murmur of laughter and conversation from the hallway and the sound of running water from the bathroom blended together, creating a noisy backdrop far louder than the hospital. Yet Jiang Shiyu felt like a snail finding its shell, lying under the covers and slowly drifting into sleep.

In the bathroom, Shen Li sat on a small stool, holding Jiang Shiyu’s clothes, a basin full of foam in front of him. The white undershirt and jeans were mixed together, with the jeans bleeding color and staining the white shirt a pale blue. He had used too much detergent, and foam was spilling over the basin, covering the bathroom floor.

Before he lost his memory, he used to wash Jiang Shiyu’s close-fitting clothes. Clothes washed by the machine would become very stiff, and Jiang Shiyu would get a rash from wearing them. Back then, he often joked that he was doing chores for his wife during the day and at night.

Since losing his memory,he had forgotten about washing clothes altogether. As a young master raised in comfort, he had never needed to do laundry. He looked at the stained undershirt in front of him, then tossed it aside, fishing out other clothes from the foamy basin.

As he fished around, a small piece of fabric surfaced, covered in white foam. He couldn’t tell what it was and shook off the bubbles to reveal a clean white pair of underwear hanging from his fingers.

Jiang Shiyu not only had fair skin but also little body hair and sweat gland secretion, so apart from the inherent scent of his clothes, there was rarely any other smell on him.

Shen Li stared at the tiny garment, as thin as a butterfly’s wing, wondering what it could cover. His mind drifted to Jiang Shiyu’s slender waist. It seemed that such a small piece of fabric could indeed fit him.

The waist might fit, but what about the… behind?

He remembered his slim waist, with two small dimples on his back, looking pure and beautiful, soft like steamed buns. He hadn’t touched it, but just by looking, he could tell how soft and tender that place would be.

He carefully unfolded the thin underwear, treating it like a delicate object. The cotton material was clean and spotless.

In the narrow, enclosed bathroom, the temperature gradually rose. The faucet was left running, with the sound of water hitting the ground, breaking the foam on the floor into holes that quickly rejoined.

He tilted his head back, his breath hot. Though it was already autumn, cooling down, sweat gathered on his chiseled face, dripping down to soak his shirt.

Through the window, he saw the sycamore tree outside the dormitory, its yellow leaves long fallen, leaving bare branches exposed to the approaching winter.

In the bathroom, heavy breathing echoed, while in the room outside, Jiang Shiyu slept soundly. He wouldn’t know that just a few meters away, someone was indulging in his intimate garments.

Sycamore leaves floated in through the slightly open window, landing on the white foam. Shen Li’s wet hair hung over his forehead, his narrow eyes lazily squinted. If he had a cigarette right now, he might light one.

He picked up the fallen leaf, which was already decayed, with blackened edges. The yellow surface was smeared with white foam and some other sticky substance, making it hard to identify.

The thin pair of underwear had long been torn apart. Shen Li placed the basin down, threw the clothes inside, cleaned up the bathroom, and then opened the door to step out.

Jiang Shiyu, asleep, was drawn by the smell of chicken soup. After tossing and turning for a bit, he groggily opened his eyes halfway. Shen Li was standing at the table with his back to him, taking a thermos out of a plastic bag. Hearing movement behind him, he turned around, meeting the sleepy gaze of Jiang Shiyu.

He didn’t rush him out of bed, allowing him to wake up slowly. About five minutes later, Jiang Shiyu kicked off the blanket but didn’t move further.

He was wearing short-sleeved pajamas and shorts, exposing two long, pale legs. Shen Li’s eyes inadvertently swept over them, his gaze unreadable.

He picked up the clothes beside the bed and helped him put them on.

“Take a couple more minutes to wake up, then get up and eat. My mom had the housekeeper make chicken soup and some light dishes for you. She wants me to make sure you eat well.”

Jiang Shiyu, still half-asleep, nodded without really processing his words. Shen Li, unbothered by whether he understood, turned to set the table.

By the time he finished, Jiang Shiyu had fully woken up, his cheeks still flushed from sleep, and his hair sticking up in different directions, making him look even more youthful.

He slipped on his slippers and headed to the bathroom. Just as he pushed the door open, Shen Li suddenly remembered something and quickly rushed over to stop him, but he was a step too late.

Jiang Shiyu had already opened the bathroom door.

The foam on the floor had been cleaned up, though the ground was still wet. A basin in the corner held a white pair of underwear, similar to the one he had taken off earlier, but upon closer inspection, it seemed even whiter.

Jiang Shiyu also saw the contents of the basin and recognized his underwear. His mind cleared instantly; he remembered leaving his clothes in the bathroom before bed, planning to wash them in the machine later.

Holding onto the doorframe, steam seemed to rise from his head.

“Sorry, I shouldn’t have left my clothes in the bathroom,” he apologized, trying to keep his face from heating up further.

After speaking, he seemed to remember something, glancing around the bathroom and then toward the balcony.

Turning back, he looked at Shen Li and asked, “Where are the rest of my clothes?”

Shen Li stared at him silently, his height and build giving him an intimidating presence.

“Sorry, I wanted to help wash your clothes this afternoon. The white shirt and jeans got mixed up and stained, so I threw them away. Send me the links to the clothes, and I’ll buy you a new set.”

Jiang Shiyu quickly shook his head, his hair bouncing around like a little curly-haired dog, his eyes clear and bright.

“No need, really, thank you for the offer. I’ll wash my personal clothes myself.”

He closed the door and went to the bathroom. Shen Li, standing outside, heard the sound of running water, guessing that he was washing the underwear.

After a few minutes with only the sound of water inside, he felt relieved and moved away from the door. He went to the table and, from a distance, urged Jiang Shiyu to hurry up and come out to eat.
