Chapter 10
A cold and fever kept Jiang Shiyu resting at home for half a month. His constitution was already weak, and after the car accident, he hadn’t fully recovered before getting drenched in the rain. The recurring low-grade fever and cough persisted until just before the start of the new semester.
Lunch was only attended by Bai Yun and him at home. The housekeeper brought a small stew pot of soup and placed it in front of him.
“Be good, drink more. You’ve lost quite a bit of weight recently, looking even more pitiful,” she instructed the housekeeper to stew the soup specifically for him.
After a summer of recuperation, he had not gained weight, but had lost quite a bit, making his face even smaller.
He listened obediently to Bai Yun’s words, uncovering the stew pot and spooning the soup into his mouth.
Seeing his quiet and obedient demeanor, she felt relieved and then thought of her obstinate eldest son. Since Jiang Shiyu got sick from getting drenched in the rain, Shen Li had rarely appeared at home.
She called him, and he said he had training for an upcoming match at the gym and was too lazy to commute back home, so he stayed in the nearby large flat.
His intentions were obvious, he was avoiding people. She felt sorry for Jiang Shiyu, but as a mother, there was little she could do about matters of the heart. It was up to them to resolve it themselves.
After lunch, Jiang Shiyu went upstairs to pack his luggage. School was starting in a few days, and Jiang Hua University had a rule that students had to live on campus until their fourth year.
Due to his health, Bai Yun initially tried to negotiate with the school board to let him stay at home, but Jiang Shiyu insisted on following the rules and staying on campus.
In the end, they arranged a double room for him and Shen Li, which put her mind at ease.
In the upstairs bedroom, a large suitcase lay open on the carpet. He took out the clothes he needed from the wardrobe, neatly folding and placing them in the suitcase. This was the first time he had packed his own luggage; before, he never had to do it himself.
Before school started, Shen Li would prepare everything he needed, and he just had to follow him to school.
Following the essential packing tips from a back-to-school video, he first packed his undergarments in a separate bag, followed by tops, bottoms, outerwear, shoes, and so on.
An hour later, he looked at the mess in the room and panicked. Wasn’t he following the instructions from the video? How come there were so many things? It looked like he was moving out. When Shen Li helped him pack before, at most, two suitcases would suffice.
School was about to start, and Shen Li also needed to pack some luggage. When he returned from the swimming pool, he was wearing loose tank tops and shorts, with a towel draped over his shoulders.
His muscles, exposed to the outside, were full of explosive power. His hair was damp with moisture, and he drove back home, speeding all the way, his short hair already almost dry from the wind.
Apart from the cicadas and birds chirping, the villa was unusually quiet in the summer. The housekeeper went to rest in the maid’s room, and after dinner, Bai Yun made plans to play mahjong with her good friends. The little sickly one was probably napping.
Shen Li came in and threw the towel on the sofa, then walked upstairs in three quick strides. His room was on the second floor, towards the inside. After he lost his memory, Jiang Shiyu moved out of his room and into the adjacent one. As soon as he reached the top of the stairs, he saw the door of the open room.
The room was filled with scattered items, even on the bed, making it look like a junkyard where a lost child had wandered in.
Hearing movement at the door, Jiang Shiyu looked up blankly and saw the tall figure at the door, his face full of confusion.
But he quickly reacted, quickly getting up from the floor and looking around the messy room with a bewildered expression. His hands were placed in front of him as if he were a child who had done something wrong.
“I’m packing my luggage.” After a pause, almost as a complaint, he added, “But there are too many things, and they won’t fit.”
His voice was soft, and when he spoke, he dragged his tone in a way that made him sound particularly coquettish, just like now.
Looking around the room at the scattered clothes, from underwear to tops for all seasons, outerwear, shoes, and even hats for all seasons, Shen Li realized that even a room-sized suitcase wouldn’t be enough to fit it all.
“Jiang Shiyu, what season is it now?”
Jiang Shiyu didn’t understand Shen Li’s question, blinked, and earnestly replied, “It’s the end of summer.”
“So you know it’s the end of summer.”
His tone was obviously sarcastic.
“So do you need padded jackets, snow boots, and knitted hats for this season?”
Jiang Shiyu was not convinced and retorted, “But the online video said…”
“Online videos are specifically made to fool idiots like you.”
He lowered his head and didn’t speak. His small face was unhappy and wrinkled. Before he moved into the Shen family, although his family was not rich, his father had always doted on him, and they even hired a nanny to take care of his daily needs.
After moving into the Shen family, Bai Yun initially took great care of him, but later, when he got together with Shen Li, everything was taken care of by him, and he almost became useless.
Now, Shen Li had lost his memory. Not only would he not help him pack his luggage anymore, but he also made sarcastic remarks on the side, calling him an idiot.
Seeing the person in front of him lowering his head and not speaking, Shen Li felt like he had been meddling unnecessarily. He touched his nose, turned around, and prepared to leave. However, the next moment, he heard a faint sob.
Looking closely, he saw Jiang Shiyu’s thin shoulders trembling slightly, his hands clenched tightly in front of him as if he were suppressing something.
He suddenly felt flustered. When he was in a disadvantageous position on the boxing ring and was hit hard, he didn’t panic. When he was overtaken in the pool, he remained calm. But at this moment, he sensed that Jiang Shiyu might be crying, and his heart became even more frantic.
“Hey,” he gruffly called out to the person inside the room. Jiang Shiyu kept his head down and didn’t speak, but his shoulders trembled even more violently.
He stood at the doorway, neither entering nor leaving. His arrogant short hair had wilted down. “Are you crying?”
Jiang Shiyu wiped his face with force, and when he lifted his head, his eyes were as red as rabbit eyes, with moist corners. He walked over and tried to close the door, but just as it was about to shut completely, it was blocked from the outside.
Shen Li’s large hand with slender, knobby fingers rested on the door frame. Jiang Shiyu pushed the door with all his might, but he was no match for Shen Li.
He gave up and turned to walk back into the room, ignoring him completely.
The piled-up clothes resembled small hills, and he sat amidst them. He picked up one item, contemplated for a moment, then returned it to the wardrobe and picked up another. With his back to the door, his thin and frail figure looked even more pitiful.
He picked up a sweater, but unfortunately, it got caught on some accessories on another piece of clothing. The accessories were intricate and complicated, and he only ended up tangling them further in his attempt to untangle them. Frustrated, he was about to give up and throw the clothes down.
A hand reached over and took the sweater from him. In just a few seconds, Shen Li had untangled it and neatly folded it in front of him.
Shen Li squatted in front of him. Jiang Shiyu had just cried, with a faint blush still on his face. His porcelain-white face, like a glutinous rice ball, was adorned with two beautiful big eyes, like two ponds, clear and bright, where one could see through to the bottom at a glance.
“If you can’t pack, you can ask the housekeeper to help. At this rate, even ten suitcases won’t be enough.”
With that, he got up and prepared to leave.
The hem of his oversized t-shirt was grabbed from behind. Jiang Shiyu looked up at him, his eyes still moist and his nose red. “Can you help me?”
“Jiang Shiyu, you’ve already given me three white long-sleeved undershirts. Are you planning to wear undershirts every day at school?”
“Jiang Hua is still a few months away from winter. Why are you bringing such thick outerwear?”
“Do you not even have a pair of slippers in your dorm? Do you need to bring them from home?”
Shen Li sat on the carpet, inexplicably helping Jiang Shiyu pack his luggage. He kept pulling clothes, pants, and shoes out of the wardrobe and throwing them to Shen Li to pack into the suitcase.
“Jiang Shiyu! This is a suitcase, not Doraemon’s pocket. It can’t fit all your stuffed animals.”
Jiang Shiyu sat nearby, hugging his stuffed sheep with a sad face. “But I have to hug the little sheep to sleep at night.”
“Are you a child? You still need to hug a doll to sleep at night,” Shen Li teased him.
He didn’t speak, silently resisting. He didn’t need to hug the stuffed sheep to sleep before. Every night, it was Shen Li who hugged him to sleep. After the accident, when they started sleeping in separate rooms, hecouldn’t get used to it and had to hug this stuffed sheep.
Seeing his aggrieved yet stubborn look, Shen Li felt a headache coming on. Had he gone crazy to agree to stay and help him pack his luggage?
“Okay, okay, okay. Let’s just stuff everything in.”
Jiang Shiyu instantly smiled, his eyes curved with happiness. He happily stuffed the sheep into the suitcase. He knelt next to Shen Li, reaching into the suitcase. They were so close that it looked like he was diving into Shen Li’s embrace from behind.
A strange sweet fragrance wafted in the air, unmistakably emanating from the person in front of him. With both knees on the carpet, Shen Li bent over to reach the suitcase.
His oversized pajamas outlined his slender waistline, although it looked like there was no flesh at all, his buttocks were still perky, giving the shorts a curved shape.
Jiang Shiyu was afraid that the clothes in the suitcase would crush the stuffed sheep, so he carefully moved the items to the side. His head swayed against Shen Li’s chest, and his hips swayed in harmony with the movement of his buttocks.
“Alright!”
After placing the stuffed sheep properly, he sat back in his original spot. His calves were tucked under his buttocks, hidden by the oversized t-shirt.
Seeing that Shen Li didn’t react, he leaned over curiously. “What are you daydreaming about?”
Shen Li suddenly pushed the person in front of him away, stood up, and his voice became low and heavy, as if he were suppressing something.
“You finish the rest yourself. If you can’t manage, call the housekeeper. I have things to do. I’m leaving.”
With that, he turned and left his room.
