Chapter 33:
Chapter 33: There’s One Thing I Envy About You:
After the song ended, Qin Luo came back to his senses and found his three roommates looking at him with the excitement of watching a movie.
And it wasn’t just them.
A group of guys from other dorms had gathered outside the door, staring at Qin Luo with glowing eyes, making him feel a bit creeped out.
Qin Luo instinctively stepped back, “What are you guys staring at?”
Li Xuan asked, “Brother, what’s the name of that song?”
“One Smile Becomes a City,” Qin Luo replied.
“One Smile Becomes a City…”
The guys started murmuring as they eagerly pulled out their phones to search for it. But no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t find a song with that name.
Even inputting the lyrics Qin Luo had just sung yielded no results online.
For a moment, everyone was puzzled.
Li Xuan couldn’t help but swallow nervously, “Is this song…original?”
Qin Luo glanced at him and said casually, “I don’t create songs; I just deliver them.”
Instantly, the coolness level maxed out.
The guys outside the door let out a collective cheer and streamed into the room.
Suddenly, Qin Luo was surrounded by a bunch of enthusiastic guys.
“Brother Qin, I’ll call you bro. You’re my real bro!”
“Seriously, Brother Luo, please start a class. I’ll kneel and listen if I have to!”
“Can’t you leave us some way to live? It’s bad enough you’re handsome and good at basketball, but now you write songs too?”
“And you sing and play the guitar so well! You’re just trying to make us feel bad!”
“Jealousy is tearing me apart, and anger is making me ugly!”
“Enough said, we’re not leaving until you play it again!”
“Exactly!”
Though they weren’t all in the same class, they were neighbors and interacted occasionally. The jokes flowed easily with no pressure.
Qin Luo knew they were just messing around. He rolled his eyes and joked with them a bit before playing and singing the song again.
After he finished, the goofy crowd finally left, satisfied but still expressing their envy and frustration.
Han Yiqun shook his head in admiration, “Brother Qin, we’ve been fooled by you for years. Who knew you were so talented? I’m jealous.”
Qin Luo laughed, “You can’t say that. There’s one thing about you guys that I really envy.”
Wang Chen was curious, “What is it?”
“I envy you for having a talented and handsome roommate, whereas I don’t.”
There was a moment of silence before everyone reacted, faces twisted in mock rage.
Li Xuan didn’t join the banter. Instead, he was seriously watching a video on his phone.
The sound of Qin Luo’s previous performance played from his phone, which Li Xuan had just recorded.
Qin Luo smiled, “Do you want to sing this song at the party? I won’t charge you any royalties.”
Li Xuan didn’t respond. He looked at Qin Luo seriously and asked, “Did you write this song for Ji Yan?”
Qin Luo felt a bit embarrassed, and said, “That’s a good question.”
He continued, “I didn’t plan to write a song for her, but I just thought of it.”
This vague answer was enough for everyone to understand that he indeed wrote the song for Ji Yan.
Li Xuan nodded and continued watching the video intently.
Han Yiqun called everyone to play a game.
Li Xuan stayed focused on the video, Wang Chen joined the game, and Qin Luo, not in the mood for gaming, laid back on his bed and played with his phone.
When he opened WeChat, he noticed a new friend request.
Someone had added him.
Qin Luo checked and his expression turned peculiar.
The message was simple: [I’m Ji Yan]
Qin Luo hesitated for three seconds before accepting.
Ji Yan: [Hello]
Qin Luo: […Hello]
Why did it feel so awkward?
Qin Luo pursed his lips and asked, [How did you get my WeChat?]
Ji Yan: [The student council has student records. I asked Jia Ting for your WeChat]
Qin Luo: […Alright, is there something you need?]
After sending the message, Qin Luo waited for a few minutes but received no reply. He didn’t mind and started browsing short videos.
(In dorm 606)
Ji Yan laid on her bed, holding her phone, her thumbs rapidly tapping the screen.
[Earlier on the field, I was too emotional, don’t mind it] deleted.
[It was just an accident, forget it] deleted]
[Can we have lunch together this weekend?] deleted.
[I like you] deleted.
She typed several messages but deleted each one, her delicate eyebrows furrowed in a deep dilemma, making her look particularly pitiful.
“How can I say this naturally?” Ji Yan muttered, feeling she faced the biggest challenge of her life.
Before this, she never thought she would struggle so much over sending a message.
Even adding Qin Luo on WeChat had taken a lot of courage.
As for how she got his WeChat, it was just as she said: from Jia Ting.
Seeing Qin Luo’s picture carrying Jia Ting princess-style had made Ji Yan jealous, prompting her to ask Jia Ting for Qin Luo’s WeChat.
Though Jia Ting felt a bit guilty, she used her position as the vice president of the student council to find Qin Luo’s contact and gave it to Ji Yan.
After getting his WeChat, Ji Yan had tried to stay calm, but her excitement was evident in her expressions.
However, now faced with a bigger challenge, she wondered how to further her connection with Qin Luo.
What kind of message would be appropriate?
After much thought, she decided everything sounded wrong. She even felt Qin Luo’s replies were too formal, possibly because he was angry about the sudden kiss.
This made Ji Yan anxious, and she wanted to apologize but also felt wronged.
She had been the one to kiss him first, so why should she apologize?
Though she thought this way, she couldn’t say it aloud. She even searched online for ways to chat with boys but found nothing useful.
After much deliberation, she finally typed a message.
Meanwhile, Qin Luo saw a new message from Ji Yan while browsing short videos.
Ji Yan: [Tomorrow’s the weekend. Do you have time?]
