Chapter 8: His Gentle Friend Has Changed
Chapter 8: His Gentle Friend Has Changed
The man with earrings looked at his grabbed wrist with surprise. He licked his lips and said, “Heh, you better let go of me, kid. Otherwise…”
Looking at the man’s increasingly hostile expression, Su Mu had already anticipated that this wouldn’t end easily.
Releasing the man, he warned, “Then walk away and don’t bother me. The alcohol stench on you is making me sick.”
He was being completely disrespectful.
The man with earrings rubbed his wrist and spat, “Damn it, I’m gonna…”
Su Mu reached behind him to the table and grabbed a bottle, without even blinking, he swiftly brought it down on the man’s head with a clean strike.
“Bang—”
The speed was so fast that the man with earrings found it unbelievable.
“Ahh—” he touched the red liquid, unsure if it was blood or wine.
A wave of dizziness hit him, his vision blurred, and through his confusion, he caught the young man’s mocking smile, which made him instinctively shudder and take two steps back.
After bumping into the table corner behind him, he cursed while saying “Just you wait, don’t you dare leave,” pointing at Su Mu while retreating.
Nearby onlookers who witnessed this scene whispered, “How dare he provoke the Zhou family’s young master, he’s done for.”
These people had clearly seen the man with earrings starting the trouble, yet they remained silent spectators at the time, and now they were just adding fuel to the fire.
Su Mu glanced at them, giving them a look that left them to their own interpretation.
Seeing the half-broken glass bottle still in his hand and remembering his fierce action earlier, the crowd withdrew their entertainment-seeking gazes and went back to their drinking and revelry.
Gao Yang, who had gone to the bathroom, finally managed to compose himself and returned as his usual fearless self, huffing and puffing as he ran back.
Before he could reach Su Mu’s side, he saw the broken bottle in his hand, which nearly scared away what little courage he had just regained.
There were glass shards all around Su Mu, leaving Gao Yang nowhere to step. He tiptoed unsteadily to Su Mu’s side.
“What happened? What are you doing with that broken bottle? It’s dangerous.”
Gao Yang carefully pulled the broken bottle from Su Mu’s hand.
Seeing the red liquid on it, he exclaimed, “Su Mu, are you hurt?”
Su Mu looked at him puzzled, and Gao Yang pointed to the blood on the bottle’s sharp edge.
“It’s not mine.”
“Oh, oh, it’s not yours? That’s good then.”
“No, then whose?”
Su Mu didn’t answer, and Gao Yang had already thrown away the broken bottle. The two moved away from the mess of glass shards on the ground.
Gao Yang was still lamenting those large yellow bananas – they had looked so delicious, but now they were crushed into pulp on the ground, feeding the earth god.
“Can you handle it?” Su Mu suddenly said something that almost made Gao Yang jump up to fight him.
“What do you mean can I handle it? Su Mu, you can insult my personality, but you can’t say I can’t handle it.”
“No wait, you can’t insult my personality either.”
“Then hurry up and find the manager, don’t forget what we came here for. We’re not here to play around.”
Gao Yang: …His gentle friend has changed…
Upstairs, Liu Yu had also guessed something. “Is it him?”
“What do you mean is it him or not, I came late.” As this person approached, the surrounding bodyguards instinctively made way. He reached out and grabbed a bottle from the table, filled a glass, “Let me make it up with a drink,” and downed it in one gulp.
“Came late, missed the show.”
“Show? There are shows in my wine house? Isn’t it always the same old routines, aren’t you tired of watching?”
This person sat in a single sofa next to Liu Yu, casually placing his hands on the armrests, lounging without proper posture, his medium-length dark brown hair scattered around his neck, giving off a wild and unrestrained air.
“The plot might be old, but the person is new,” Liu Yu tilted his head interestedly towards Chu Hanting’s direction.
Shang Guan Fan understood immediately, “Related to Old Chu?”
Drama was common, but drama involving Chu Hanting was rare – he wanted to know more.
Shang Guan Fan and Liu Yu exchanged glances for a while, but lacking any chemistry, they nodded and shook their heads for a while, neither understanding what the other meant.
So they gave up.
At this moment, Chu Hanting suddenly stood up, and before leaving, instructed Shang Guan Fan: “It’s your bar, have someone keep watch, don’t let just any random person in.”
“Where are you going? I just got here and you’re leaving, we haven’t even had a drink,” Shang Guan Fan watched Chu Hanting’s sudden departure in confusion, even that last comment was puzzling.
So, after he left, he could only humbly ask Liu Yu what had happened.
In the office, the soundproofing was excellent – while it was noisy outside, inside was exceptionally quiet.
“Which one of you two is here to apply for the lead singer position?”
A middle-aged man with a big belly sat in the main seat, looking over Su Mu and Gao Yang.
“Me, me!” Gao Yang took out his job application from his backpack and handed it over with both hands.
“Beijing Drama Academy?” The manager skipped other sections and went straight to the education column.
“Yes, yes.”
“Vocal music major?”
“Yes, yes, yes.”
“Alright. You’re qualified.”
“That simple? Don’t I need to sing something?” Gao Yang thought the interview would at least test his singing ability.
The manager replied dismissively: “No need, you’re from China’s top music institution, what else is there to be picky about?”
Gao Yang hadn’t expected to pass so easily and was overjoyed. After agreeing on working hours and salary, he hesitantly asked, “Um, my friend…”
The manager, being shrewd, knew what Gao Yang was getting at just from that start. “Is your friend also from Beijing’s Vocal Department?”
Su Mu wore a gentle smile, appearing polite and mild-mannered, quite different from how he had dealt with the man with earrings earlier.
“I don’t sing, but I can play the piano, and I’m decent at it.”
The manager remembered that last week’s pianist had taken a month’s leave to visit family, so they did need someone.
However, that pianist was somewhat famous in the area and quite skilled. If they replaced him with someone inferior, it might hurt the bar’s reputation.
After pondering for a moment: “As it happens, the next segment was originally planned for instrumental performance. Go try playing, if the response is good, we’ll keep you on too.”
“Sure, no problem.”
After the manager left, Gao Yang whispered to Su Mu, “Brother, you’re kind of unlucky. I got in directly, but you still have to take a test, that’s rough.”
“But bro, your piano skills are outstanding, it definitely won’t be a problem.” Gao Yang patted Su Mu’s shoulder, more confident than Su Mu himself.
