Chapter 20: Speeding Out of Fear for Lin's Little Brother
Chapter 20: Speeding Out of Fear for Lin’s Little Brother
“Su Mu, Su Mu?”
When Chu Hanting’s calls got no response, he touched the other’s forehead – it was burning hot. He had a fever.
Yang Hua appeared just in time, spotting his boss from afar standing in the rain with the student in his arms, showing a moment of surprise.
Quickly, he ran over to pick up the large black umbrella and held it over them both.
Chu Hanting slipped one arm under Su Mu’s knees and the other supporting his back, gently lifting him up. With Yang Hua holding the umbrella, they quickly walked toward the parked car.
Meanwhile, Chu Hanting told Yang Hua to contact Liu Yu.
“Tell him to come immediately, no matter what he’s doing.”
Yang Hua drove as fast as safely possible – it was the first time he’d seen his boss carrying someone, and that person was unconscious. He feared if he drove too slowly, this delicate young man who’d been caught in the rain might not make it.
The car braked sharply at the villa entrance. Before Yang Hua could fully exit the car, his boss was already carrying Su Mu out. He hurried to follow with the umbrella.
Though focused on driving, every glance at the back seat had shown his boss holding the student close against his chest, never loosening his grip throughout the journey.
Yang Hua instinctively sensed something unusual about this level of concern.
Besides, wouldn’t it have made more sense to take him directly to a hospital? Why bring him home and call for Dr. Liu Yu instead?
The level of attention was telling.
Su Mu was delirious with fever.
After losing consciousness, he hazily dreamed of many unpleasant memories from his previous life, his brows constantly furrowed, mumbling unclear words.
His body showed signs of trembling and slight struggle.
But Chu Hanting kept holding him tightly.
In his hazy state, Su Mu felt himself briefly regain consciousness, finding himself in a comfortable place with a familiar, reassuring scent on the pillow.
He unconsciously nuzzled his head against it.
Chu Hanting, carrying him to the bedroom, felt the movement and thought he had awakened.
But after calling out several times, there was still no response.
When he tried to put him on the bed, he suddenly realized they were both wet.
While he wasn’t concerned for himself, having Su Mu lie down soaking wet would certainly be bad for his condition.
“Yang Hua, ask Mrs. Wang to bring up some dry towels.”
When Mrs. Wang arrived and was about to undress Su Mu to dry him off and change his clothes, Chu Hanting stopped her.
“Wait.” Something felt wrong about it. “You can go. Leave the towels with me.”
Mrs. Wang: ……
After much effort, Chu Hanting managed to change Su Mu into dry clothes and lay him on the bed.
The bedroom door opened, and Liu Yu entered with his medical kit. “What happened? Was he ambushed? Is he still alive?”
“Huh? Where are you injured? Why do you look so energetic?”
“Did you take a swim? You’re soaking wet, you…”
Liu Yu stopped talking when he saw someone lying on his friend’s master bedroom bed.
His eyes darkened behind his silver-framed glasses as he studied the scene curiously.
Isn’t this the young man from the bar? Should be Hanting’s marriage arrangement partner.
“You weren’t that beastly, were you? Knocked him unconscious?” Liu Yu rarely caught such a scene and couldn’t help teasing.
“Stop joking. He got caught in the rain and has a fever. Quickly check if he’s alright.”
Hearing this, Liu Yu became serious. The teasing could wait – treating patients came first.
“You should go out and clean up. I don’t need another patient. Leave this to me.”
Trusting Liu Yu’s abilities completely, Chu Hanting went to the guest room to clean up.
When Liu Yu finished his examination, he found Chu Hanting impeccably dressed, waiting in the living room.
“How is he?”
“Nothing serious. Just a fever from getting cold, and the fainting was triggered by intense emotional changes.”
“I gave him some injections. The fever should break by late night. I’ll prescribe some medicine – just follow the instructions. This young man might be up and about tomorrow.”
“Mm.” Chu Hanting felt relieved. It was good that nothing serious had happened.
After all, he was partly responsible for today’s events, and he didn’t want anything to happen to Su Mu.
Liu Yu made himself comfortable – he’d been to this villa quite often.
Usually when called here in the middle of the night, it was for gunshot wounds or severed arteries. He’d rushed here expecting an all-night surgery, only to find it was just a cold.
Wasn’t this a waste of his talents as Harvard’s youngest medical PhD graduate ever?
Sipping the coffee Mrs. Wang had just brewed, Liu Yu lounged on the sofa and asked, “What’s going on here? Wasn’t this just about dealing with marriage pressure? How did he end up at your house?”
“Let alone with your almost pathological level of cleanliness, you actually let that young man lie in your bed.”
“The sun must be rising from the west.”
“He said he likes me.”
Liu Yu nearly spat out his coffee, almost losing his composure.
He managed to hold it in but still choked and coughed several times. After recovering, he asked: “And then? Did you believe him?”
“No.”
Liu Yu: Just as he thought. Must have rejected him harshly, and the young man got himself into this state from heartbreak.
Liu Yu brought his coffee to his lips again.
“But now I’m not sure anymore.”
“Cough cough cough!”
Liu Yu: ……
“What aren’t you sure about? You believe his talk about liking you? You must have heard such words hundreds of times. But they love your Chu surname – how many would still claim to love you without your status?”
“Don’t be foolish. Or is this your type?”
“That college student is certainly good-looking. Though there’s no shortage of handsome faces, the ones around us carry too much desire. This one has a rare kind of cleanness about him.”
“But looking pure doesn’t mean being pure inside. Don’t get fooled and lose everything.”
Liu Yu thought this way because, in his view, Su Mu’s behavior seemed too rushed.
There wasn’t even a process of falling in love – isn’t this just like those models in their circle?
One-night stands, providing services for money.
Otherwise, normal pursuit would take things step by step.
It wasn’t that Su Mu didn’t know this was inappropriate, but whenever he got close to Chu Hanting, he completely lost his rationality. His longing surged like a gushing spring, and his actions were beyond his control.
How could one pretend not to love when they were truly in love?
