Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Zhang Wangchuan Chases Her to Beicheng:
“I’m taking her back to the hotel.” I couldn’t just let Lin Muyao get into trouble, but that didn’t mean I was going to soften my stance.
When we arrived at the hotel entrance, Lin Muyao seemed to regain some consciousness. She clung to my neck, refusing to let go.
“Honey, is that you? You still care about me, don’t you?”
I didn’t bother responding to a drunk woman. Half-supporting, half-carrying her, I walked into the hotel lobby, intending to ask for her room number so I could send her back.
But before I could step inside, someone blocked my way.
“What did you do to Yaoyao? How did she end up this drunk?” Zhang Wangchuan frowned as he stepped forward, eyeing Lin Muyao with concern. His tone was aggressive.
“You have no right to question me. But since you’re here, I’ll leave her to you. Make sure you take good care of your dear Yaoyao.”
I shoved Lin Muyao into Zhang Wangchuan’s arms. The moment I was rid of this trouble, I felt lighter, even grateful that Zhang Wangchuan was foolishly devoted enough to chase her all the way to Beicheng.
“Hold it right there! You think you can just walk away without explaining yourself? Yaoyao never drinks this much. Did you do something to her? Are you handing her over to me because you feel guilty now that I’m here?”
“Guilty?” I scoffed. “No wonder you two ended up together. Your ability to twist the truth is exactly the same.”
“If you love her so much, then make sure you stay together forever. Go back to Jing City and live your happy little life. Just don’t ever come bothering me again.”
Watching Zhang Wangchuan rush here in a panic, I found it increasingly ridiculous. Was he here to fight for her favor? Was he afraid Lin Muyao and I would get back together and ruin his chances as her old flame?
“You can’t talk about Yaoyao like that. Stop pretending, Shi Yue. You’re just jealous that she only has feelings for me. That’s why you came to Beicheng, isn’t it? To try and get her attention.”
“I’ll be honest with you—before she left, she told me everything. The only reason she reached out to you was to have another person helping her make money. The one she truly loves has always been me. She’s only ever seen you as a tool.”
Zhang Wangchuan glanced at Lin Muyao. Seeing that she was completely unconscious, he became even more arrogant with his words.
But no matter what he said, it wouldn’t affect me. I had no illusions about why Lin Muyao had come to Beicheng. If anything, I just wanted her to hurry up and leave.
Seeing my silence, Zhang Wangchuan thought he had struck a nerve.
He smirked smugly, gently stroking Lin Muyao’s flushed cheek before looking at me provocatively. “Guess who she’ll choose to take her back to the hotel?”
“Whoever she picks has nothing to do with me. I don’t have time to watch you put on a show. You two can do whatever you want.”
I turned to leave.
But just as I stepped forward, I heard Zhang Wangchuan’s panicked voice behind me.
“Yaoyao, what’s wrong? Yaoyao, don’t scare me!”
I instinctively turned around and saw Lin Muyao collapsed on the ground. Zhang Wangchuan was beside her, his face full of panic.
Inside the car, Fu Ze and Gu Nianchu noticed the commotion and quickly got out to check.
Frowning, I looked at Lin Muyao, who had suddenly fainted. She had only been drunk—why was it this serious? She had been drunk before, but she had never passed out like this. Without hesitation, I said, “We need to take her to the hospital.”
I stepped forward, intending to help lift her, but Zhang Wangchuan pushed me away.
“Don’t touch Yaoyao! You must have done something to her!”
“The hell is your problem?” Fu Ze was annoyed by Zhang Wangchuan’s attitude and stepped forward to defend me.
I stopped Fu Ze with a look, signaling him not to bother with someone like Zhang Wangchuan.
We rushed Lin Muyao to the nearest hospital. The test results revealed that she had been drugged, which explained why she had collapsed. Fortunately, the dosage was low, and she would wake up after resting for a while.
As soon as the doctor left, Zhang Wangchuan pointed a finger at me and started yelling.
“You bastard! And you still dare say it wasn’t you? If you didn’t drug her, then who else could have? If I hadn’t shown up in time, who knows what you would’ve done to her? Don’t forget—you’re already divorced! If you want to be with Yaoyao, don’t stoop to such disgusting tricks. I despise you!”
“Enough with the baseless accusations! Who the hell are you, anyway? He and Lin Muyao are divorced. What are you, her husband now? Is that why you’re this worked up?”
Before I could even speak, Fu Ze had already lost his patience. He grabbed Zhang Wangchuan’s wrist and shoved him hard, his face dark with anger.
“We… we…”
“We what?” Fu Ze sneered. “Let me tell you something—if Shi Yue hadn’t gone to save Lin Muyao, you wouldn’t even get to see her face again. She would’ve been taken advantage of long ago. You’re really ungrateful.”
“I don’t believe a word you’re saying! For all I know, you’re just Shi Yue’s accomplice!”
“We’ll see once Yaoyao wakes up. Let’s see what excuse you two come up with then!”
Zhang Wangchuan refused to believe that I had saved Lin Muyao. He was convinced I was the one who had drugged her.
“Zhang Wangchuan, if you have any brains at all, just stay here and watch over Lin Muyao. Stop causing trouble. This is Beicheng. If you keep throwing dirt on my name, don’t blame me if you don’t make it back to Jing City in one piece.”
“You dare threaten me?”
“Call it whatever you want. Consider it a warning. If you’re going to live off women, then do it properly. Stop trying to drag other people into your mess.”
“Hah, you just can’t stand seeing me and Yaoyao together, can you? You’re going crazy with jealousy because she doesn’t love you anymore.”
“In fact, let me tell you something. We started talking again not long after you two got married. The moment I returned to Jing City, Yaoyao was desperate to meet me. Guess where we had our first reunion? Guess what we did?”
Zhang Wangchuan’s eyes were filled with blatant provocation. He was just short of spilling all the details of his affair with Lin Muyao right in front of everyone.
Gu Nianchu and Fu Ze looked at me worriedly.
“Shi Yue-ge…” Gu Nianchu called my name softly, standing beside me.
“I’m fine,” I said with a smirk, not wanting them to worry.
“What? You still want to hear more? I’ve got plenty more to tell—”
Slap!
A crisp sound echoed through the hallway. Zhang Wangchuan instantly fell silent, his eyes widening in shock as he looked at Gu Nianchu.
Even I was surprised. I hadn’t expected Gu Nianchu to slap him so decisively.
“You still have more to say?” she asked coldly. “Need me to give you a few more slaps to help you think it over?”
“You—you—”
“What’s wrong? Weren’t you just talking so much? Keep going. Today, I’ll do your parents a favor and teach you a lesson. Someone like you, who only knows how to spout garbage, deserves a good beating!”
Gu Nianchu glared at him, her delicate palm now slightly red from the impact.
