Chapter 7: Meeting Chu Ruoyan Again
"What do you think I mean? A three-legged toad is hard to find, but two-legged women are everywhere, aren't they?"
Lu Zhensheng chuckled, "Hehe, if I didn't want to find someone for you, it would be one thing. But if I do, it has to be the best."
"Su Qingli has a great figure and a beautiful face, and her private life is spotless."
"On top of that, she's known as the First Beauty of Jiangcheng."
"Tsk tsk, others would die for such an opportunity, and you can have her under you whenever you want."
"Isn't that thought alone enough to make you feel good?"
Is this... what a father should teach his son?
"You look decent on the outside, but inside, you're so sleazy. Truly, you can never truly know a person."
Lu Han sneered, "My mother must have been blind to fall for you."
Mentioning his deceased wife, a shadow of sorrow flashed across Lu Zhensheng's eyes.
"Lu Han, I'm doing this for your own good."
He took a sip of tea and continued slowly, "Many people in the Lu family hope you'll return, but at the same time, they don't want you back."
"You're currently weak and powerless. Even with my unconditional support, standing firm in the Lu family won't be easy."
"So, you need external help."
"The Su family may have declined somewhat over the years, but they are still a prestigious clan with deep roots."
"This marriage alliance will be beneficial for you. Why not take it?"
His words did sound somewhat reasonable.
Since Lu Han had chosen to return to the Lu family, he had prepared himself mentally for certain things.
So, regarding this arranged marriage, he wasn't entirely against it.
Especially after experiencing Chu Ruoyan, he now held a rather indifferent attitude towards love.
As the internet slang goes, the pure love warrior had fallen, and after sealing his heart with cement, there was nothing left but to hell with love.
"I don't have any issues."
After pondering for a moment, Lu Han asked, "But will the Su family agree?"
"They have no choice but to agree."
Lu Zhensheng switched from his usual frivolous demeanor to a more sinister tone, "The Su family's main business is real estate, and their financial chain is broken, teetering on the edge of collapse."
"In all of Jiangcheng, only I can save the Su family."
"That's still out of respect for Su Qiuchao, who has been my close friend for many years."
"If not for him, why would I give his daughter the chance to become my daughter-in-law?"
Lu Han's lips twitched.
Forcing someone to sell their daughter and still calling them a close friend?
Truly shameless.
"Alright, then I have no objections." Lu Han lit a cigarette, glanced at Lu Zhensheng, and tossed him one.
Ah, a cigarette from his son!
Lu Zhensheng had quit smoking years ago but eagerly caught the cigarette, placed it in his mouth, lit it, and took a satisfying puff.
"Now that you've agreed, I'll set up a meeting with Old Su. You and Su Qingli can meet first."
Lu Zhensheng exhaled a cloud of smoke and handed Lu Han a black card with a slightly ingratiating tone, "The password is your birthday. Spend it however you like."
Lu Han took the card and, after a few seconds of silence, asked, "What's my birthday?"
This question nearly broke Lu Zhensheng.
He realized that Lu Han had been lost since childhood; how could he know his own birthday?
His throat tightened, and he felt too heartbroken to speak.
Lu Zhensheng wrote down a string of numbers on a piece of paper and pushed it toward Lu Han.
Then he turned away, closed his eyes, and waved toward the door.
Lu Han gave him a long look before getting up and walking out.
...
...
Though he now had the black card from his stepfather, Lu Han didn't rush to start spending lavishly.
Over the next two days, he spent time familiarizing himself with the manor's environment.
Lu Zhensheng was busy and only contacted Lu Han once to inform him of the time and place to meet Su Qingli.
Friday evening, at Sofia Western Restaurant.
Out of courtesy, Lu Han arrived at the entrance half an hour before the scheduled time.
While smoking, his gaze inadvertently fell on the last two people he wanted to see.
Chu Ruoyan and Ling Mo.
It had been several days, and Chu Ruoyan looked somewhat haggard, her brows filled with worry.
As for Ling Mo, this was the first time Lu Han saw him in real life.
Well-dressed and indeed handsome.
No wonder Chu Ruoyan couldn't forget him.
Lu Han's eyes were cold. How many days had he been gone, and they were already together?
Chu Ruoyan also saw Lu Han.
Seeing the man who had disappeared for several days suddenly appear, she realized she missed him more than she thought.
In an instant, tears welled up in her eyes.
"Lu Han..."
But just as she called out his name, following his cold gaze, she saw Ling Mo beside her, and Chu Ruoyan's face turned pale.
She had agreed to attend a gathering with Ling Mo, but she knew Lu Han left because of Ling Mo, so she didn't want to come.
But Ling Mo somehow heard about Tenghui Platform canceling the cooperation and said that a friend at the gathering had a connection with Tenghui's senior management.
Perhaps they could help restore the cooperation.
She hadn't expected to see Lu Han here while accompanying Ling Mo.
Chu Ruoyan couldn't quite describe her feelings right now.
But regardless, she needed to apologize to Lu Han first.
"I'm sorry..."
She tried to reach for Lu Han's hand, but he stepped back to avoid her touch.
"No need to apologize. I was always the extra one anyway."
Lu Han said coldly, "Congratulations, President Chu. You finally got what you wanted."
President Chu?
The unfamiliar title cut through Chu Ruoyan's heart like a knife.
She understood that Lu Han thought she had immediately moved on with Ling Mo after he left, and she was apologizing out of guilt.
But that wasn't the truth!
"Lu Han, you misunderstand."
Chu Ruoyan's eyes brimmed with tears as she shook her head, "Ling Mo and I are just friends. My heart belongs to you!"
However, her explanation didn't elicit even a hint of emotion from Lu Han.
Lu Han didn't want to waste words, "Chu Ruoyan, saying these things now is meaningless. We've already broken up."
His cold tone stunned Chu Ruoyan, who still harbored hope.
"No, I don't agree to break up!"
Chu Ruoyan's voice trembled, "Lu Han, I know I was wrong, terribly wrong. Please give me a chance. Come home with me, okay?"
Seeing her pleading, Ling Mo knew he couldn't stay silent anymore.
He had to do something; what if Lu Han softened his stance?
"Lu Han, you really don't need to do this."
Ling Mo sighed insincerely, "I know you created this illusion of leaving just to see if Chu Ruoyan really cared about you."
"Now you should understand that she can't live without you."
"So stop torturing her. Look, she's already apologized. Forgive her."
Chu Ruoyan was momentarily stunned, suspiciously asking, "Ling Mo, are you saying... everything Lu Han did was intentional?"
