Chapter 5: Lu Han left, and Chu Ruoyan was thrown into a panic.
The day after the concert ended.
Throughout the morning, Ling Mo took Chu Ruoyan to almost every famous watch counter in Rongcheng.
Finally, they found the Green Submariner.
Chu Ruoyan held it in her hands, examining it carefully, and nodded in satisfaction.
She had also checked online; this watch was extremely popular in the market, one could say it was top-tier.
Moreover, it was hard to come by, with second-hand prices even higher than new ones.
"Lu Han's wrist is pale and slender; wearing this watch would definitely look very handsome."
She had even imagined Lu Han's delighted expression upon receiving this gift, completely unaware of the inappropriateness of it.
Spending the night out with another man, only to return and give her boyfriend a green watch?
What the hell kind of situation was that?
"Ling Mo, thank you for your hard work."
Chu Ruoyan looked at the sweaty Ling Mo, completely oblivious to the man's malicious intent.
"It's no trouble at all."
Ling Mo smiled, hinting at something: "Although I've lost the right to make you happy, I hope for your happiness more than anyone else."
"Even if I can only interact with you as a friend now, I don't want to see you and Lu Han at odds."
"Especially since this misunderstanding was caused by me."
Chu Ruoyan, of course, understood what Ling Mo meant and felt somewhat conflicted.
After all, he was her white moonlight, and she couldn't help but recall those painful times.
Fortunately, she had gotten through it.
She was quite happy now.
And all of this was thanks to Lu Han.
"I've already said it has nothing to do with you."
Chu Ruoyan shook her head: "Wait here for a moment, I'll go make the payment."
She turned and walked away, unaware of the sinister look in the man's eyes behind her.
Ling Mo took out his phone and took a photo of the watch he had helped try on.
He added it to his WeChat Moments, quickly paired with a caption.
"I like it, but I can't accept such an expensive gift."
Setting it to be visible only to Lu Han, Ling Mo clicked 'Post'.
However, just before returning to Jiangcheng, he quietly deleted this Moment.
Parking the car outside the villa community, Ling Mo said thoughtfully, "Yanyan, are you sure you don't want me to explain to Lu Han for you?"
"It's better not to."
Chu Ruoyan shook her head without even thinking.
This matter was her fault to begin with; having Ling Mo explain would only make things worse.
"Alright, I suppose Lu Han isn't the petty type and won't mind these things."
Ling Mo smiled, then changed the subject: "By the way, some old friends found out I'm back in the country and want to get together in a few days. Would you like to join?"
Chu Ruoyan hesitated.
She had already upset Lu Han with yesterday's events and wasn't sure how to face him later, so she instinctively didn't want to go.
"It's just a simple gathering, nothing more than catching up."
Ling Mo added: "If you're worried Lu Han might be jealous, you can bring him along."
Having been put on the spot like this, Chu Ruoyan couldn't refuse.
"Then give me a call in advance, and we'll see."
With that, she got out of the car.
By now, it was already dark.
Chu Ruoyan opened the door with trepidation and found it pitch black inside.
Was Lu Han not home?
Chu Ruoyan turned on the light and was about to change her shoes when her gaze inadvertently swept over the dining room, and she suddenly froze.
There was a table of exquisite dishes, with a cake in the center.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly opened her phone.
After checking the calendar, Chu Ruoyan's mind buzzed.
Yesterday was the two-year anniversary? Not tomorrow?
She had remembered wrong?
Thinking about how she had accompanied Ling Mo to the concert and missed such an important day, Chu Ruoyan was filled with regret.
No wonder Lu Han had called over and over again; he had already prepared a meal and was waiting at home.
But she had been with another man...
Chu Ruoyan's mind conjured up the image of Lu Han seeing Ling Mo's Moment, and she couldn't help but feel guilty and heartbroken.
How disappointed and lost he must have been at that time!
But looking down at the carefully prepared gift for Lu Han, Chu Ruoyan began to console herself.
"It's okay."
"This is a watch worth over a hundred thousand."
"Such an expensive gift also represents my feelings."
"Lu Han will definitely forgive me."
Thinking this way, Chu Ruoyan immediately noticed something was wrong.
"Why aren't there any of Lu Han's shoes at the door?"
She suddenly felt uneasy and hurried into the bedroom.
A blanket was missing from the bed.
Opening the wardrobe, Lu Han's clothes were gone too.
In the bathroom, all of Lu Han's toiletries had vanished. The matching toothbrushes and cups that used to symbolize their relationship now stood alone, with only her set remaining.
Chu Ruoyan finally panicked, searching high and low for half a day but found no trace of Lu Han's presence in the house.
Finally, in the living room, she noticed a brazier she had overlooked earlier due to her frantic state. It was filled with ashes.
It dawned on Chu Ruoyan that Lu Han had burned all those items. An overwhelming sense of dread washed over her, causing her to collapse onto the floor.
"Lu Han... left?"
Her mind went blank. After a long while, she managed to get up, feeling utterly lost. Approaching the dining table, the food that had been sitting there for a day and night had lost its appetizing appearance. Beside it lay Lu Han's keys.
Feeling a lump in her throat, she suddenly spotted a burnt box in the brazier, barely recognizable as heart-shaped.
"Chu Ruoyan, on our second anniversary, I'll give you a surprise," Lu Han's words echoed in her mind. Usually quite neat, Chu Ruoyan didn't care about the dirt anymore and started rummaging through the ashes. Soon, she found a ring, blackened and yellowed by fire.
Now she understood what Lu Han's surprise was supposed to be. That man, who had eyes only for her, intended to propose on this special day!
"How ridiculous I am..."
Tears uncontrollably flowed down her cheeks, and her heart ached. On the day Lu Han meticulously prepared to propose, she had been with another man. How cruel must that have been for him...
If he hadn't felt utterly hopeless, how could he have brought himself to leave?
"No! Lu Han can't just leave like this!"
Wiping away her tears, Chu Ruoyan knew calling wouldn't work, so she sent a WeChat message instead. "Lu Han, where are you? I know I was wrong. Can you come back?"
Just after sending the message, she froze. A red exclamation mark appeared in the chat window: "The contact has enabled friend verification. You are not friends yet. Please send a friend request for verification."
Had Lu Han even deleted her as a friend?
