After Dressing Up As a Little Fulang

Chapter 5 - Asked (1)

An Yun was used to do a lot of psychological preparation for himself. He would think about all the situations, make corresponding countermeasures, and even prepared for the worst.

However, An Yun had never expected that his so-called countermeasures would be of no use at all, and the young man never appeared in front of him again.

If someone hadn’t come to deliver medicine to An Yun every day, and the doctor still came on time to nurse him back to health and the servants still delivered him meals three times a day. An Yun would have thought that he was long forgotten.

After being slightly uneasy, An Yun quickly became calm. What he needed to do most then was to take care of his body and plan other things.

“Fulang, I’ve brought you medicine,” there was a knock on the door.

As soon as An Yun heard the voice, he knew it was the maid who used to deliver medicine to him. He adjusted his silk clothes, which were always out of place and slipped slightly, and called out, “Please come in!”

Immediately afterwards, the door of An Yun’s room was pushed open from the outside, and then the maid carefully walked in carrying a tray with a bowl of dark brown soup.

The maid placed the medicine on the table, then looked up at An Yun who was approaching her, and said gently, “Fulang, this is the medicine that has just been brewed. You can drink it while it’s hot!”

An Yun smiled at her. There was a hint of gratitude in his smile, setting off his pale and beautiful face, showing a different kind of beauty.

The maid looked at his smile and admired him. She had to admit that this new Fulang in the mansion was indeed remarkably beautiful. It was no wonder the masters in the mansion were fond of pampering him with expensive medicine.

Seeing her staring at him in a daze, An Yun reached out and touched the bowl of medicine, hesitated for a moment, and showed a somewhat troubled expression.

Seeing this, the maid quickly came to her senses and asked, “Why does the Fulang look like this?”

An Yun felt a little embarrassed, but whispered, “This medicine is still a bit hot, I want to drink it later…”

The maid was surprised to hear this and reached out to test the temperature. She found it no different than usual.

She raised her eyes to look at An Fulang and noticed that his fingertips had turned from white to a faint pink, like peach blossoms blooming in the snow, which was particularly eye-catching.

The maid didn’t doubt An Yun. Instead, she thought her hands must be calloused, which made her unable to feel the bowl’s temperature properly. A refined person like An Fulang was different from someone like her.

So, she said, “This soup is a bit hot, Fulang. You can drink it later.”

In the past, people who came to An Yun’s place would usually drop off their things and leave without saying a word to him, which meant he couldn’t get any information from them.

Seeing that the maid could stay today, An Yun felt happy. He pointed to the chair next to him and said, “Don’t stand there either. It’s hot today, I’m afraid it will take a long time for the soup to cool down.”

The maid hesitated, embarrassment flickering in her eyes as she looked at An Yun.

An Yun gazed at her expectantly and said warmly, “Usually, it’s just me here, and I get really lonely. I’m always glad to see you. I just want some company and a chat. It’s just the two of us here now, so please, have a seat.”

Besides taking care of An Yun, the maid had strict orders not to linger and to leave promptly.

But facing An Yun’s hopeful expression, she couldn’t bring herself to disappoint him, especially not with a disappointed look.

So, as if under a spell, the maid sat where he indicated.

Seeing her settle into the chair, An Yun felt a brief rush of happiness, feeling like he had taken the first step toward what he planned to do.

An Yun started chatting with her, initially about trivial matters like her name, age, and how long she had been in the mansion.

Noticing her relaxation, An Yun asked, “Xiao Cui, may I inquire about the master of the mansion? Particularly the young master who visited the other day.”

Xiao Cui’s smile froze instantly, and she fell silent, appearing hesitant as if unwilling to speak.

An Yun anticipated this response and deliberately wore a sorrowful expression. He looked at her earnestly and said gently, “Xiao Cui, if it’s difficult for you to talk about, please don’t force yourself. I won’t blame you. I just haven’t seen the young master since then, and I need to know more about him to plan for the future. You see, even though I lack nothing now, eventually, I’ll have to rely on the master’s goodwill.”

“I worry that if I inadvertently offend the young master, I might be cast out to die. You know, on my first day here, I was sent out once, and I truly thought it was the end for me.”

His recounting of being cast out struck a genuine chord, and the concern on An Yun’s face was deeply sincere, compelling sympathy.

Under the pressure from the mansion rules, Xiao Cui feared discussing anything about her master’s family. Yet, observing An Yun’s heartfelt expression, she couldn’t help but feel pity for him.

Finally, Xiao Cui gritted her teeth and said, “I’m just a lowly servant. I don’t know much about the Master, but I’ll tell you what I can.”

Upon hearing this, An Yun suddenly looked up at Xiao Cui, his eyes shining with gratitude, making her feel unexpectedly happy.

Seeing the smile on An Yun’s face, Xiao Cui even felt that if the young master appeared now and sought retribution for her indiscretion, she would face it willingly.

Although Xiao Cui was just a low-level servant, she was sold into the mansion since she was a child. After she decided to tell An Yun, she revealed a lot of news under An Yun’s guidance.

By the time Xiao Cui reluctantly left with the medicine bowl, An Yun already knew a lot of news about the mansion.

In this mansion, there were only four masters in total.

The man who was forcibly bumped by An Yun that day was the biggest master in the mansion, named Zang Ke. He was the general who defended the country, and also served as the manager here. He was the city master in charge of a piece of land.

Zang Ke also had a wife, Madam You, who was very beautiful and did not often appear in front of others. Only the best servants could come into contact with her.

It was said that after this wife appeared, Zang Ke, who originally had numerous concubines, dismissed everyone in the mansion, leaving her alone with him. It had been fifteen years since he began favoring her exclusively, and there was no end in sight.

There was also Zang Ke’s mother, an old lady in the mansion. Her daily hobby was to play around. She often stayed at relatives’ homes and kept in touch with old sisters.

The last one was the young man who had come to An Yun that day, Zang Ya, who was only twelve years old, the only heir in the mansion.

When An Yun thought of this, his expression became a little complicated. Looking at the tall young man, he thought he just had a tender face. Who would have known that he was so young?
