Chapter 1189: Three Tests
Divine Thunder immediately gave up, looking at Zhouzhou with a furious expression.
Zhouzhou didn't back down, her face showing pure stubbornness.
Knowing her temperament, Divine Thunder understood that she really would go on like this if it came to it. The pressure was building, and it could feel a headache coming on.
Zhouzhou's eyes slowly turned red as she spoke, "I just want my dad back! He hasn't spoken to me in over a month. Every day, he lies in bed and I can't even figure out how he's doing."
"They're all bullying me! They won't let me check on him, won't let him wake up. He's just on nutrition fluids, can't even eat. He's so thin, it's like his bones are all that's left."
"Why hurt my dad if I'm the target?"
The more Zhouzhou spoke, the more aggrieved she sounded, and the tears began to fall uncontrollably.
This time, unlike before, she wasn't pretending. She was genuinely crying. The poor girl sat on the floor, her face red, as she sobbed, accusing them all.
Divine Thunder, feeling guilty, cleared its throat and tried to console her, "Get up, let's talk calmly."
"I won't!" Zhouzhou snapped back, her neck stiff. "My dad's basically a vegetable! What's there left to say? I'll practice my crying skills, maybe I'll have to cry at his grave one day!"
That was a bit too much.
Ye Lingfeng's lips twitched. If she weren't his own daughter, he'd swear she was cursing him.
He glanced toward Divine Thunder, genuinely curious. Why was it doing all this?
Although Divine Thunder was here to supervise Zhouzhou, making sure she didn't go astray and scaring her with threats to strike her down, Ye Lingfeng knew that deep down, it was quite soft-hearted.
If it hadn't been, why would Divine Thunder, all these years, have refrained from striking her even when she misbehaved countless times?
They all cared about Zhouzhou. That much was clear.
But then why was it acting this way?
Zhouzhou cried louder, and no matter how Divine Thunder tried to calm her, she wouldn't stop.
When she couldn't hold back anymore, she started wailing uncontrollably, saying, "My dad is such a good person, he's done so many good deeds. Why are you bullying him?"
Pounding her chest, her face tilted up defiantly, she shouted, "Why don't you come bully Ye Fugui instead! What's the point of picking on my dad?"
She rolled around on the floor for a few moments in frustration.
Ye Lingfeng covered his eyes, unable to look at her.
She was growing more skilled at throwing tantrums like a spoiled child.
It wasn't pretty, but it sure was effective.
At last, Divine Thunder couldn't take it anymore. Trying to console her was futile, and now it found its patience thinning.
With gritted teeth, it finally shouted at the sky, "This is all your fault!"
Ye Lingfeng could feel the storm cloud behind him beginning to stir.
Ancestral Master, who had been watching the scene, also spoke up in agreement, "Yeah! What are you trying to do? If you have a problem, confront us directly, don't pull these underhanded tricks."
As soon as the words left his mouth, a streak of lightning shot toward him, making Ancestral Master jump a good three feet in the air, scrambling to get away from it.
Now, all he had left was his soul; he couldn't withstand being struck.
Seeing him react that way, Divine Thunder snorted, clearly unimpressed.
Looking down at Zhouzhou, it seemed like she was the easier target.
Zhouzhou, lying on her bed, secretly peeked at Divine Thunder, her little head spinning with thoughts, trying to figure out what was really going on.
Divine Thunder noticed her little movements and, when their eyes met, hastily covered its face. It couldn't help but laugh, though the situation made it feel both helpless and amused.
Finally, it spoke, "Alright, get up, and I'll tell you everything."
Upon hearing this, Zhouzhou quickly stood up, brushing the dust off her clothes. "You better keep your word, Mr. Divine Thunder! You're Divine Thunder; if you lie, strike yourself down!"
Divine Thunder rolled its eyes. It didn't have that many tricks up its sleeve; it was Zhouzhou who always had the most tricks.
Zhouzhou grinned, took out some sunflower seeds from her pocket, and pulled out two chairs to place under a tree. She patted one of them and warmly called, "Mr. Divine Thunder, sit here."
Naturally, Divine Thunder couldn't sit. It hovered just above her, at eye level, and began explaining.
"Actually, this is all for your own good."
Zhouzhou puffed up her cheeks, "Mr. Divine Thunder, don't think I'm an idiot just because I don't read much."
She looked at him skeptically.
He had made her dad incapable of waking up, didn't even know where Ancestral Master had gone, and blocked her from calculating their fate. And now he was saying this was for her good?
She didn't buy it.
Divine Thunder felt wronged. It had truly meant well, but now, it seemed like it was the one being put on trial.
With a deep sigh, it explained, "Your merits... You've already given them all to Ye Lingfeng, but we believe you've done so many good deeds over the years that you don't deserve this fate. We want to help you."
Zhouzhou's ears perked up at the mention of "we." She tilted her head suspiciously at Divine Thunder.
"I knew it!" she muttered under her breath. "There's someone else helping you!"
Divine Thunder's lips twitched. It couldn't hold back any longer. It had been trying to keep it a secret, but now it couldn't stop.
"Yes, there are others. The other Divine Thunder—well, they want to see some drama. Actually, your father and Ancestral Master were taken by them."
"What?"
Zhouzhou's head snapped up, her eyes wide as she stared at the sky.
The clouds above seemed irritated, flashing lightning as they buzzed. The other Divine Thunder wasn't happy about this reveal.
Divine Thunder remained unfazed, wearing a cold smile. "What else? It's their doing, and I'm just telling you the truth."
Zhouzhou frowned, quickly asking, "So, can my dad and Ancestral Master come back?"
Divine Thunder nodded, "Yes, but only if you pass three tests."
"Three tests?"
"Yes. The specifics will be announced to you later," Divine Thunder said, adding, "Don't think I'm lying. This is really for your benefit. If you pass these three tests, you'll break free from your bad fate with short of money, and from that point on, your path will be smooth."
Upon hearing this, Zhouzhou's eyes lit up.
Break the curse of bad luck with money!
The day had finally come!
Ancestral Master, too, seemed surprised but also felt happy for Zhouzhou.
He had thought that Zhouzhou would never break free from this bad luck, but now there was a chance.
Looking at Ye Lingfeng, he had a sudden realization.
Maybe it was because Ye Lingfeng had accumulated great merits, and Zhouzhou had also gathered quite a bit over the years. Both of them were children of fate, which might be why the heavens were willing to lend a hand.
This was great news.
