Chapter 72: A Reflection of My Former Self
Chapter 72: A Reflection of My Former Self
The person before Ye Shu wore the robes of another sect, clearly one of the exchange students.
He had originally intended to secretly purchase the treasure and then present it to Wang Man as a gesture of goodwill—essentially sealing an alliance between their sect and Wang Man’s Ghost Mountain Sect.
However, after just a few moves, Wang Man was lying on the ground, utterly crippled, and another overzealous individual had been mercilessly kicked into submission.
This left him with a chill running down his spine. The Demon Prince of the Heavenly Fiend Sect was truly terrifying!
Thinking that things were settled, he never expected that this Demon Prince would also want to buy the Earth Spirit puppet body that had just been sold. One glance from Ye Shu was enough to send him scurrying forward, trembling as he handed over the treasure.
“You’re much more perceptive than the ones lying on the ground,” Ye Shu remarked approvingly, casting the man a fleeting look before promptly pocketing the fleshy artifact without hesitation.
The man glanced at the two figures sprawled on the ground, their injuries making his heart quiver. Thankfully, he had surrendered the treasure in time. Who knew what this violent Demon Prince might have done if he’d provoked him further?
“I’m heading back, Senior Sister Lan.”
After scoring the artifact for free, Ye Shu grinned and waved goodbye to Lan Caidie.
“How can you still smile like nothing happened?!” Lan Caidie shot him a reproachful glare. After causing such chaos, not only could he laugh it off, but he was also acting as if nothing was amiss. Only someone with his audacity could pull something like this off.
And speaking of audacity… she couldn’t help but recall the incident in the Slaughter Tower when Succubus Demon had bewitched her, and this guy had actually gone through with that unforgivable act!
That bastard!
She stamped her foot in frustration, but when she looked up again, Ye Shu was already out of sight.
Around her, the whispers of the crowd buzzed.
“Demon Prince is truly formidable!”
“Yes, yes! Taking down two disciples from other sects single-handedly—what incredible strength!”
“But watch out for the disciple tournament in two days. Those exchange students will definitely target him because of this.”
“What’s there to fear? Would our Demon Prince ever be afraid of such riffraff?”
Hearing these words, Lan Caidie felt somewhat reassured. It seemed that rather than dampening morale, Ye Shu’s actions had actually boosted the spirit of their sect’s disciples. Clearly, his actions had struck the right chord.
On the other hand, the exchange students were seething, clenching their teeth so tightly it seemed they wanted to grind Ye Shu into dust. They whispered amongst themselves, their eyes darting toward the direction Ye Shu had disappeared in, clearly plotting something.
“This won’t do. I need to report this to Master immediately,” Lan Caidie thought, realizing the gravity of the situation. Without delay, she made her way toward Heavenly Fiend Peak.
Unimpeded, she arrived at the grand Asura Hall. After explaining her purpose, she was summoned inside by Luo Jiuyan.
Lan Caidie began recounting the events in detail.
As she listened, Luo Jiuyan’s expression grew increasingly sour until Lan Caidie described how Ye Shu had beaten people into submission. At that point, her expression softened significantly.
When Lan Caidie finished, she looked up to see an unexpected trace of satisfaction on her master’s face.
Confused, she asked, “Master, the disciple tournament is approaching soon. Junior Brother has caused quite a commotion. Surely, those exchange students will retaliate against him during the tournament. I wanted to ask for your opinion on the matter.”
At this, Luo Jiuyan let out a cold laugh. “Opinion? What opinion do I have? All I can say is, good job!”
“Ah?” Lan Caidie’s small mouth gaped open in surprise.
“Such lack of courage!” Luo Jiuyan chided her with an exasperated look. “Your Junior Brother beat someone up—that’s all there is to it. Why should we be afraid? Do you think they dare kill your Junior Brother?”
“They wouldn’t dare!” Lan Caidie shook her head. After all, Ye Shu was the Demon Prince of the Heavenly Fiend Sect. To harm him would mean provoking the entire sect—and Luo Jiuyan herself!
The latter was especially daunting. If Luo Jiuyan truly set her mind on killing someone, countless powerful figures would steer clear, and even sect leaders and elders would tremble at the mere mention of her arrival.
“At worst, they might severely injure Shu’er. But with me around, do you think he won’t recover?” Luo Jiuyan continued.
“But…” Lan Caidie hesitated, acknowledging the logic in her master’s words.
However, Ye Shu represented the dignity of the Heavenly Fiend Sect. If, during the disciple tournament, the opposing sects deliberately targeted him and humiliated him, then spread word of it afterward, wouldn’t that tarnish the sect’s reputation? That was what truly worried her.
Luo Jiuyan seemed to sense her inner turmoil and sighed. “You’re all still too bound by fame and desire, hesitating and wavering whenever faced with difficult decisions. You lack resolve.”
“Look at your Junior Brother. When he sees something detrimental to the sect, he acts decisively. No matter how despicable or unacceptable his methods may seem, his goal is clear—to crush his opponents and leave them crying for mercy. That’s what it means to be a demonic cultivator!”
Upon hearing this, Lan Caidie blinked and suddenly felt enlightened. Her brows relaxed as clarity washed over her.
“Master’s words have truly opened my eyes!”
“Let’s hope so,” Luo Jiuyan cast her a faint glance.
With that, Lan Caidie tactfully excused herself from the hall.
Alone in the vast chamber, Luo Jiuyan lounged on her throne, her beautiful eyes distant, seemingly lost in thought.
“That’s exactly how it should be. Once you step onto the path of cultivation, you can’t afford to hesitate. If you can endure situations like this, aren’t you just like those old turtles hiding in the mountains, pretending to cultivate while secretly cowering from their enemies? I wouldn’t approve of that!”
She spoke softly, her mind conjuring an image of a graceful young man dealing with a group of unruly foes. How amusing.
It reminded her of her younger self.
Lost in reflection, Luo Jiuyan absentmindedly placed her delicate fingers on her crimson lips, gently rubbing them. “It’s been half a month since the lantern festival. Your diligent cultivation has brought you to the Nascent Soul stage. Regardless of your performance in this disciple tournament, I’ll reward you handsomely. I hope you continue to excel.”
Suddenly snapping out of her reverie, she realized no one else was in the room. She broke into a cold sweat.
“Heavens, Luo Jiuyan, are you really thinking about him this much?” she scolded herself.
But she couldn’t deny it—right now, she was indeed thinking of someone. She wondered what that person was doing at this very moment.
Surely, he must be diligently cultivating!
…
“Husband, husband~ don’t be so rough♡♡♡. You’re hurting me~”
“Gently, yes, gently. It tickles here; I can’t take it anymore~”
“Hurry, lift me up and attach that part. That feels so much better~”
…
“Shut up!”
Ye Shu wiped the sweat from his brow as he barked at her.
Before him lay an array of flesh-like components. Inside the headpiece resided Succubus Demon, who watched as Ye Shu painstakingly assembled her new body, letting out moans of pleasure.
“For heaven’s sake, I’m just putting together a puppet here! Why are you being so loud? It’s like I’m committing some heinous crime!”
