Chapter 34:
Chapter 34: It’s Okay to Bully Me, But Not You:
Lin You’s mind was filled with a flood of bitter memories. The kind of moral manipulation Zhang Xi tried to pull reminded him of his time with the Lin family.
“Brother, you won’t tattle on me to our parents, will you?”
“Lin You, you won’t argue with Tianyang over such a small thing, right?”
“Lin You, you’re a boy. You can let it go, can’t you?”
Countless such moments came back to haunt him, turning his face dark with frustration. These were the very memories that had shaped him into a person who once bent over backward for others, expecting nothing in return.
Just because I helped doesn’t mean I owe you, he thought bitterly.
Noticing Lin You’s expression, Zhang Xi gave him a cheeky look and mouthed, “Three for you, seven for me!”
Lin You understood that Zhang Xi was proposing to share 30% of the five million his father had transferred. Clever, fat people aren’t dumb after all. Thirty percent of five million was 1.5 million—a lot of money. But Lin You disliked being morally blackmailed and hated the idea of manipulating others even more.
He nodded at Zhang Xi’s father, Zhang Hongqi, and reassured him, “Uncle, you don’t have to worry. Zhang Xi will be safe at school. No matter how bold those dark forces are, they wouldn’t dare storm a school to cause trouble.”
Relieved, Zhang Hongqi nodded and waved goodbye before driving away.
Two minutes later, Zhang Xi’s phone chimed with a notification: “Alipay has received 5 million yuan!”
The fat man’s grief evaporated instantly. He patted Lin You on the shoulder, grinning. “Five million! This is enough pocket money for a hundred years! Come on, I’ll transfer you 1.5 million right now!”
Then he turned to look at Li Ruochen, who was standing quietly beside Lin You. Not knowing the depths of her predicament, he joked, “Ruochen, you’re destined to be Lin You’s wife and my sister-in-law! Here, take 100,000 yuan as a meeting gift.”
Seeing Zhang Xi acting like a money-slinging king, Lin You stopped him. “Don’t get too carried away. With everything happening, your family’s accounts are likely to be frozen soon. You’ll need this money for legal fees.”
Zhang Xi hesitated but finally tucked his phone away. His cheer dimmed a little, but he nodded. “Okay, okay. I’ll keep it.”
Meanwhile, Li Ruochen couldn’t stop staring at Lin You. When Zhang Xi casually mentioned her being Lin You’s future wife, her heart skipped a beat. She stole a glance at Lin You under the dim neon lights, his bruised yet resolute face seeming so perfect. She marveled at how he had handled the chaos earlier.
What kind of family, she wondered, treats someone like Lin You as if he’s worthless?
Lin You’s practicality had poured cold water on Zhang Xi’s enthusiasm. Still feeling restless, Zhang Xi said, “Lin You, I really want to go back and see the house. I’ve lived there for over a decade. I just need to know…”
The family’s living quarters were on the top floor of the Sihai Restaurant, a space of over a thousand square meters—spacious enough to rival a villa. Lin You understood Zhang Xi’s concerns but also knew the risk involved.
He agreed but set strict conditions. “We’ll look from a distance. No trying to retrieve anything, no matter how valuable. If you can’t stick to that, I’m leaving.”
Zhang Xi nodded earnestly. “I’ll listen to you.”
With the restaurant still over five miles away, they hailed a rideshare. As they approached Xiangcheng Street, Lin You spotted a radio signal jammer vehicle parked in the distance. His face darkened as he realized how serious the situation was.
Further ahead, he noticed Lin Shengnan surrounded by black-suited men. She fought valiantly but was clearly outnumbered. Even someone as capable as her wouldn’t last much longer. Nearby, Lin Shiyan was being held down by several men, her high heels broken and her bare feet bleeding from stepping on shattered glass.
Lin You clenched his fists, his face growing colder by the second.
The rideshare driver, sensing trouble, grew anxious. “I can’t go any further. You need to get out here,” he urged.
Next to him, Li Ruochen caught sight of Lin Shiyan’s predicament. “Lin You, isn’t that your sister?” she asked. But noticing Lin You’s dark expression, she quickly corrected herself. “No, I must have been mistaken. Just two strangers… We should leave.”
A year ago, Lin You would’ve risked everything to save his sisters, especially Shengnan, who once admired his courage. But now, after being cast out by the Lin family, their fates had nothing to do with him.
Still, something inside him stirred. “Reverse,” he ordered the driver coldly.
The driver hesitated, tempted to ask for more money. But one look at Lin You’s face made him think better of it. He reversed the car for five or six hundred meters until Lin You’s phone regained a faint signal.
Lin You dialed Tang Sen. The signal was spotty, but he managed to relay his message: “I’m at the Sihai Restaurant on Xiangcheng Street. We need help. Bring people if you can. If not, forget it.” He hung up before the line dropped.
Next, he sent a message to Lin Tianyang: “Your second and fourth sisters are in trouble. Come quickly. Sihai Restaurant, Xiangcheng Street.”
After putting his phone down, Lin You turned to the driver. “Drive forward.”
The driver hesitated again. “It’s not about the money—”
“One thousand!” Lin You interrupted.
“Deal,” the driver said, starting the car.
As they drove, Lin You turned to Ruochen. “Did you recognize the man with the mustache earlier?”
Ruochen shook her head.
“I did,” Lin You said, his voice icy. “He’s the one who bullied you the other day. He can bully me, but he can’t touch you. I’ll make him pay.”
