Chapter 26:
Chapter 26: God’s Exchange:
Lying on the ground, Lin You heard Li Ruochen’s desperate words and shouted with all his might, “Wang Ermao, you green-haired turtle! If you dare to harm my classmate, I swear you’ll die a horrible death!”
His words enraged Wang Ermao, who was still recovering from the pain in his groin.
Picking up a steel pipe, Wang Ermao pushed through the crowd and swung it at Lin You’s head.
Lin You, already dazed from the earlier brick hit, now felt a sharp, unbearable pain as blood streamed down his face.
The impact almost made him lose consciousness. Strangely, however, the more his blood flowed, the more strength he felt coursing through his body. The pain seemed to unlock a surge of power, exponentially increasing his speed and agility.
Summoning his strength, Lin You raised his right arm to block Wang Ermao’s next blow.
With a sudden burst of energy, he stood up and punched Wang Ermao in the chest. He had aimed for Wang Ermao’s face, but at nearly 1.8 meters tall, Wang Ermao was too high, forcing Lin You to settle for the next best target.
The result was shocking. Wang Ermao, a man of nearly 200 kilograms, was sent flying five or six meters, crashing into a pile of building materials. The impact shattered the materials beneath him, leaving only his foot visible amidst the debris. Dust filled the air, and the room fell silent.
Lin You, blood dripping down his face, stared at his fist in disbelief. Then, he looked at Wang Ermao’s motionless figure, stunned. The gangsters around him were equally shocked, many instinctively stepping back. Even the Tang suit master, who had been calmly sitting moments ago, stood up, his face filled with disbelief.
Lin You wasn’t looking for a fight. He had no interest in taking down gangsters or righting societal wrongs—he just wanted to save his classmate.
Seizing the stunned silence, he declared, “I’ve already called the police. Even if you have connections, you can’t get away with kidnapping a student in broad daylight. Let my classmate go, and we can all pretend this never happened.”
Before anyone could respond, Wang Ermao’s voice rasped from the pile of debris. “Dream on… Kill them both…” His words ended in a violent coughing fit, his chest clearly in immense pain, likely from broken ribs.
Encouraged by Wang Ermao’s order, the gangsters regrouped and surrounded Lin You once again. Realizing that words wouldn’t resolve the situation, Lin You prepared himself for another fight.
He could feel the raw power surging through his body and his heightened senses, as if he had unlocked a hidden martial ability.
Lin You remembered his master’s teachings: “The world is fair. For everything you lose, you gain something in return.” He had once dismissed these words as mere motivational rhetoric, but now they made perfect sense.
His pain and bleeding had triggered a transformation, exchanging his suffering for extraordinary strength and speed. It felt like a divine exchange, a gift from the meditation practices his master had taught him since childhood.
Lin You decided to strike first.
Locking eyes on the nearest gangster—the one who had smashed his head with a brick—Lin You’s gaze was so fierce that the man froze in terror, feeling as though he were being hunted by a beast. The gangster tried to raise the brick in his hand, but before he could react, Lin You blurred out of sight.
A loud smack echoed through the room as Lin You’s fist connected with another gangster further away, sending the man flying.
A back tooth, bloodied, flew out and struck the first gangster on the nose, making him bleed instantly.
The Tang suit master watched in astonishment as Lin You took down four gangsters in rapid succession. His thin, unassuming figure belied the power and skill he displayed. The master, who had initially dismissed Lin You, now realized he was dealing with someone extraordinary.
With four gangsters incapacitated, Lin You turned his attention to the Tang suit master.
The man instinctively stepped back, his confidence shaken. In a flash, Lin You grabbed Li Ruochen from the ground, hoisted her onto his shoulder, and dashed out of the room.
The Tang suit master, snapping out of his daze, roared in frustration. “Chase him!” He suspected Lin You might have taken some kind of stimulant, but that didn’t lessen his anger.
On Lin You’s shoulder, Li Ruochen clung tightly, watching the scenery blur as Lin You sprinted. She had always known he was fast, but this was beyond anything she had imagined.
By now, night had fallen, and the dark wilderness offered little visibility. Lin You had barely run 200 meters when he saw a large figure blocking his path. It was Zhang Xi.
“Fatty, run!” Lin You shouted.
Zhang Xi, confused, saw a blurry figure rushing past him, followed by a group of gangsters armed with makeshift weapons.
Before he could react, they were upon him. The gangsters pinned him down, raining blows with bricks, steel pipes, and wooden planks.
“An accomplice? Beat him harder!” the Tang suit master commanded.
Within seconds, Zhang Xi was bloodied and barely conscious.
Lin You, seeing Zhang Xi’s plight, hesitated.
He remembered how Zhang Xi had brought him breakfast every day and felt it would be unjust to leave him behind. Setting Li Ruochen down, he quickly untied her ropes and said, “Run! I’ll go save Fatty!”
Li Ruochen, tears streaming down her face, refused to leave. “I won’t go! If you’re going, we’ll go together.”
Lin You didn’t have time to argue.
Leaving her behind, he rushed toward Zhang Xi. The Tang suit master, sensing Lin You’s determination, prepared himself for a fight.
Lin You’s target was clear. The Tang suit master was the core of this gang. If Lin You could take him down, the others would scatter, and they might all escape.
