Chapter 22 Child of Flames

Marceline was home at the Ice Mountain strumming her guitar a little in the living room, when Simon returned home.

"Marceline I'm home and I brought a little guest." Called Simon.

Curious to who the guest was Marceline floated to the front door and saw Simon carrying a little baby Fire Girl.

"Whoa, where'd the baby come from?" Asked Marceline.

"I found her wondering around the woods, while I was heading home." Explained Simon as he set the baby down on a pillow.

"What was a baby Fire Elemental doing wondering around the woods?" Asked Marceline.

"I honestly don't know. But judging by that gem on her forehead I say she is part of one of the royal families of the Fire Kingdom." Said Simon as he went to a nearby closet and rustled around it and came back with a crib and some blankets. "There we go this should be good for the night."

Simon then walked over to a nearby shelf that had various items on it and grabbed an old music box and began turning the key. The box began to play gentle music and Simon put it down, picked the baby up and slowly started rocking her. The baby went to sleep and Simon put her in the crib. Marceline just watched with a smile as she remembered her own memories of Simon taking care of her. Marceline glanced at the baby and noticed the pendent around it's waist.

"What dose that item do?" Asked Marceline.

"It allows Fire People to touch and feel other things without burning them." Explained Simon.

"So what are you going to do with her?" Asked Marceline.

"I'm taking her back to the Fire Kingdom tomorrow. I'm sure this child has some parents, who are worried sick about her." Said Simon.

"I think, I'll join you. I got nothing to do and I've never been inside the Fire Kingdom." Said Marceline.

"Sounds good. Well goodnight." Said Simon as he set up a baby monitor and then went off to his room.

"Goodnight." Said Marceline as she went off to her room.

From the shadows Gunter watched them, showing all she saw to Crimson.

In the lair Crimson watched a crystal ball that showed him everything that Gunter saw. Crimson was furious. Somehow the princess had found her way to Simon and now the old wizard was planning on taking the baby back to the Fire Kingdom. Crimson thought about telling Gunther to kill the baby and perhaps kill Simon and Marceline in the process, but there was a chance the attack would fail and Simon and Marceline would be aware of someone watching them and planning to kill them. Simon was a powerful and intelligent wizard and there was a change that he could trace the attack back to the lair.

There had to be another way. Then he thought about Flame Duke and an idea came to Crimson's mind. He pulled out a crystal and teleported away to the Fire Kingdom.

In another part of the lair, Sylvester was working on a machine, with the help of his assistant Shark, who was a large shark that walked on his fins. In a tank nearby there was an infant Flame Boy sleeping. It was a male clone of Flame Princess. Sylvester smiled at the clone.

"In a few weeks you will be three years old and then your training begins." Said Sylvester with pride.

In the Fire Kingdom the funeral for Flame Queen had just been held. Flame King was filled with grief and sadness as he returned to his room. Flame Duke smiled wickedly. Soon he would kill his older brother and seize the crown and become the new ruler of the Fire Kingdom!

Flame Duke was interrupted from his thoughts by the appearance of Crimson.

"What do you want?" Asked Flame Duke.

"I've come with some news and a offer." Said Crimson.

"Speak." Said Flame Duke.

"The Princess managed to escape me, but I got what I needed from her. She is now in the care of Simon the Ice Wizard and he plans to bring her back to the Fire Kingdom tomorrow." Said Crimson.

"What! That ruins everything! My brother will be filled with joy and it will be nearly impossible to kill him and the Princess." Said Flame Duke as he glared at Crimson.

"I know, but there is a way to fix this. You and some soldiers can ambush Simon and the Princess on the way here. If you kill Simon, you can brag that you beat someone the Flame King couldn't. Your people will love you even more once you take the throne." Said Crimson.

"That dose sound good. Now tell me this offer you have." Said Flame Duke.

"I serve someone incredibly powerful and he wants to take over Ooo. You can join us and have whatever you want, but first you must accomplish this little job." Said Crimson.

Flame Dukes greed for power kicked in, as he thought about all that power.

"Alright I'll do it." Said Flame Duke with a smirk.

"A good choice." Said Crimson as he teleported back to the lair.

It was so easy to manipulate power hungry fools.

The next day Simon and Marceline began flying towards the Fire Kingdom. Simon was carrying the baby princess. As they flew over a forest seven fiery figures suddenly flew before them it was Flame Duke and six soldiers.

"By order of the Fire Kingdom I order you to land!" Declared Flame Duke.

Simon looked confused and Marceline looked annoyed, but they did as they were told. They landed in some woods nearby and Flame Duke and his men landed before them.

"Hello goods sirs, we were just on our way to the Fire Kingdom." Said Simon.

"Silence old man! You stand before the mighty Flame Duke!" Declared Flame Duke.

"More like mighty windbag." Muttered Marceline.

Flame Duke eyed the baby in Simon's arms.

"I see that, you're carrying the Flame Princess." Said Flame Duke.

This was news to Simon and Marceline, they had no idea that the baby was the child of the rulers of the Fire Kingdom.

"Yes, I found the Princess wondering in the woods and we were on our way to reunite her with her parents." Said Simon.

"A noble endeavor, but I'm afraid I can not allow that!" Said Flame Duke as he launched a fireball from his hand at Simon and the baby.

Simon quickly conjured up a ice shield and blocked the attack. The Princess cried in fear.

"What is wrong with you?! You could have hit the baby!" Shouted Simon.

"That's the idea." Said Flame Duke as he nodded to his guards to join in on the attack.

"Well I'm not going to let you hurt her!" Shouted Marceline as she flew forward and delivered a powerful punch to the face of a nearby guard.

The guard flew through the air and smashed into a rock in a dazed heap. Marceline blew on her hand in pain from touching the fire elemental. Flame Duke and his remaining guards just stared at Marceline in shock.

"Here let me even the playing field out a little." Said Simon as he cast a Flame Shield on Marceline.

"That's better." Said Marceline as she faced the remaining enemies.

"All of you deal with that brat, I'll go after the old man and the Princess." Said Flame Duke.

The guards charged at Marceline, while Flame Duke went after Simon and the baby. Simon took flight as Flame Duke fired fireballs at him.

The first guard charged at Marceline swinging a fist at her, the vampire easily blocked it and delivered a powerful punch down onto the guard's head knocking him to the ground unconscious. The four remaining guards fired a combined blast of fire at Marceline. She quickly turned into a small bat and flew into some nearby trees and vanished . The guards didn't see Marceline's quick escape. They looked around confused trying to figure out where she was.

"Did we get her?" Asked one guard.

"Spread out and find her." Commanded another.

Marceline peered down from the tree she was hiding in as two of the guards walked under her. Marceline leaped from the tree growing into her giant bat monster form and slamming her fist down on the two unsuspecting guards knocking them out. The other two guards spun around to face her. Marceline swooped up one guard in her clawed hand and hurled him at the other one knocking them both out. Marceline transformed into her human form and brushed herself off.

"That's done now time to deal with the windbag." Said Marceline as she took off in the direction she saw Simon and Flame Duke going.

Simon was still dodging and flying away from Flame Duke. The evil fire elemental fired a massive fireball at Simon, who deflected the blast up into the sky with a gust of cold wind. The fireball exploded it a bright and loud flash that could be seen from miles away.

In the Fire Kingdom, Flame King was standing at his balcony, when he saw a bright flash in the sky. Curious as to what it was, he flew off into the sky to investigate it.

In the woods Flame Duke continued to attack Simon, who dodged and canceled the attacks with his powers, while he tried to comfort the baby, he was protecting.

"Give it up old man! You can't beat me! Just surrender and I promise I'll end you all swiftly!" Declared Flame Duke.

"Tell me why, you want to kill the Princess?" Called Simon as he dodged another blast of fire.

"I suppose it wouldn't hurt to tell you. You see I am the younger brother of Flame King, I'm next in line to takeover if the king and queen aren't around. The queen recently died and that leaves the king to deal with. Once my brother is out of the picture I takeover, but you see the Princess is still around and she's an heir. True she won't be allowed to take the throne, until a certain age, but I wish to be king for a really long time, so you see she has to die." Said Flame Duke with a nasty smirk.

"You are truly a disgusting individual if you're desperate enough to kill a baby, just so you don't have to relinquish power, when she's older. Tell me did you kill Flame Queen?" Said Simon.

"Not me exactly, but someone else did. It doesn't matter she out of the picture and pretty soon her daughter and then her husband will be joining her in the afterlife!" Laughed Flame Duke.

Unfortunate for Flame Duke, Flame King had just arrived on the scene and heard just about every word Flame Duke had just said. The fiery monarch felt his blood boil as he glared down at his younger brother in rage. Flame King landed behind Flame Duke, with a loud clang and then swung a massive fist into the smaller elemental's face knocking him to the ground. Flame Duke cried in pain as he looked up and saw his brother towering over him. His courage and confidence evaporated into fear as he saw the anger on Flame King's face. Flame Duke tried to say something, but Flame King slammed his fist into Flame Duke's face slamming him into the ground.

"Did you have something to do with my wife's murder?" Demanded Flame King.

"Brother...I swear I had nothing to do with the Queen's murder!" Cried Flame Duke.

"Liar! You just tried to murder my daughter! Do you take me for a fool!" Bellowed Flame King as he picked Flame Duke by the arms and began to squeeze him.

The armor on Flame Duke cracked and he screamed in pain.

"Ok...a mask figure killed the Queen...and kidnapped your daughter! She ended up with the...wizard and I tried to kill them. I just wanted to be king! Please...brother spare me!" Sobbed Flame Duke.

"I have no brother." Whispered Flame King as he dropped Flame Duke to the ground.

Before Flame Duke could do anything, Flame King grabbed him by the back of his armor and dragged him through the woods to a river. Flame Duke realized what, Flame King was going to do and began thrashing and screaming for mercy. Flame King raised Flame Duke over his head and tossed him into the river. There was a screech followed by a loud sizzling sound. Jets of steam popped out as the water boiled. All that was left of Flame Duke was his armor at the bottom of the river.

The guards who had accompany Flame Duke saw what happened and took flight flying for their lives and away from the Fire Kingdom. Flame King ignored them.

Marceline arrived on the scene and looked at Simon and the baby.

"Everything ok?" She asked.

"We're ok." Said Simon.

Flame King approached them, his eyes softening as he saw his daughter. He reached his hands out for her and Simon placed her in his hands. The baby giggled and smiled at Flame King. The fiery monarch smiled back. Then he turned to Simon.

"Explain everything to me." He said.

Simon quickly explained everything to Flame King. Flame King listened and nodded as he held his daughter in his hands, he was happy to have her back, but there was also a growing concern. Flame Duke was gone, but that didn't mean that there weren't more traitors in the kingdom, who would try to murder his daughter and seize control. Flame King needed to keep Phoebe safe and away from the Fire Kingdom. He glanced at Simon, who was just finishing his story.

"Simon, there is something important I must ask of you." Said Flame King.

"What is it?" Asked Simon.

"I need you to take care of my daughter. The Fire Kingdom is to dangerous. There are to many people, who would go after my daughter in an attempt to take control of the kingdom. I don't want any harm to come to my daughter, because of that. I can't raise my daughter and give her what she needs in that kind of environment. My wife spoke highly of you Simon, saying that you were a good man that could be trusted. I leave my daughter to you and I trust that you can raise her and give her the love she needs." Said Flame King.

"Flame King are you sure of this?" Asked Simon as he eyed Flame King.

"I'm sure. I've lost my wife and I can not bear the thought of losing my daughter. I trust you Simon." Said Flame King as he handed the Princess to Simon.

"May I ask what her name is?" Asked Simon.

"Her name is Phoebe the Flame Princess." Said Flame King.

"I promise to look after her." Said Simon.

"Thank you. When she is older, perhaps then I will come take her back, until then I leave her to you." Said Flame King.

Simon held the baby, who looked at Flame King.

"Goodbye my daughter. I love you." Said Flame King as a single red tear fell from his eyes and he took off into the sky.

"Well it looks like we have a new little addiction to our little family." Said Marceline as she looked at the baby.

"Looks that way." Said Simon as he looked at the baby. "Welcome to our little family Phoebe." He said with a smile as he tickled the baby's belly and made her giggle.

Simon and Marceline took flight and headed back to the Ice Kingdom. In some nearby bushes a red snake watched them. The snake was a spy and it was showing everything it had seen to Crimson back at the lair. The evil being cursed his luck. He had hoped that fool Flame Duke would at least kill one member of the group, but he failed. Oh well it was no big lose. There were still other ways to deal with them.

Simon, Marceline, and Phoebe arrived at the Ice Kingdom. Simon then went off to got get baby supplies leaving Marceline alone with Phoebe. After Simon left Phoebe broke out crying. Marceline picked her up and began swaying her in her arms as she tried to think of a song to sing to her. Then she remembered a song from a movie she used to watch all the time, when she was a little kid before the war.

Phoebe fell asleep and Marceline placed her in the crib. Marceline smiled down at the sleeping baby feeling a slight kingship with her.

"You know you and I have a lot in common. We both lost our moms and we both have complicated relationships with our dads, who couldn't raise us, and now we're being raised by Simon. And I guess we're both wearing a magical item created by Simon." Said Marceline as she looked at her own pendant around her neck.

"You certainly have a lot in common." Said a new voice.

Marceline turned around and saw the spirits of her mom Linda, Betty, and a figure she had never seen before.

"Mom. Betty." Greeted Marceline with a smile.

"Hello daughter. It's good to see you. This is Flame Queen the mother of Phoebe" Said Linda as she indicated the figure next to her.

The spirit of Flame Queen nodded in greeting and looked over at her sleeping daughter.

"I'm so glad to see my daughter safe and with good people." Said Flame Queen.

"You're welcome. Hey can you tell me who murdered you? Me, Simon, and Flame King can track the guy down and avenge you." Said Marceline.

"I'm sorry but I don't know the identity of the one who murdered me, he wore a cloak and a mask. But I do know he wasn't a Flame Person, he had a Flame Shield on and seemed to be some kind of magic user." Said Flame Queen.

"Alright I'll tell Simon about this." Said Marecline.

"Thank you again for watching over my daughter." Said Flame Queen.

"No problem." Said Marceline.

The ghost said goodbye and faded away. Marceline just looked at the sleeping baby. When Simon returned with baby supplies Marceline told him about the encounter she had with the spirits. Simon told Marceline that he would look into the magic user and see if he could find any leads in Wizard City.

And so time went by. Simon looked around Wizard City, but he couldn't find any leads. The baby Flame Princess lived with her new guardians in the Ice Kingdom. Simon gave the child a stuffed green dragon to play with, when she was two. Phoebe named her new friend Mubo. As time went by Marceline took a shine to Phoebe and saw her as a little sister. Marceline would look after her, read her stories, and sing to her, she even took Phoebe to a couple of jam sessions of the Scream Queens. Simon also cared for Phoebe by playing with her and reading her bedtime stories.

When Phoebe was four Simon and Marceline decided to try to teach her how to fly. They took her into a grassy field put a helmet and some knee and elbow pads on her. Marceline hovered in the air and looked down at Flame Princess and Simon.

"Alright try to see if you can get up to me." Called Marceline.

"How do I do that?" Asked Phoebe.

"Just think happy thoughts and let them run through." Suggested Simon.

Phoebe took a deep breath and thought about something happy. Tiny flames shot out of her legs and she rose into the air towards Marceline.

"I'm doing it! I'm flying!" Exclaimed Phoebe as she shot her arms out to steer herself.

The flames suddenly died out and Phoebe began falling. Marceline quickly flew forward and caught her.

"Let's practice a little more." Said Marceline.

After a few hours Phoebe picked up flying. Later that day they practiced shooting fireballs. Simon created some ice disk and flung them into the air. Phoebe would then blast them and they would exploded into little pieces. Simon and Marceline cheered and congratulated the little Princess on her control and skills.

A year later Marceline moved into a house, with a wizard she had been dating named Ash, but broke up with him a few months later after he traded Marceline's teddy bear Hambo, for a wand to a witch named Maja. Marceline retuned to living with Simon and Phoebe at the Ice Kingdom. Marceline was crying silently in her room, when Flame Princess came in carrying Mubo.

"Marceline I know you miss Hambo, but you can have Mubo to help you make you feel better." Said Phoebe as she held up the stuffed dragon.

"Ah Phoebe...you don't have to do that. Mubo is your special friend." Said Marceline.

"But your my sister...and you look sad." Said Phoebe.

"Ah come here you." Said Marceline as she wrapped her arms around Phoebe and hugged her.

Phoebe returned the hug. Simon walked by the room and saw the two girls hugging and smiled, before walking away. It seemed like everything was going alright, but unfortunately that wasn't going to last long.

Miles away in a secret lair Crimson was recruiting a powerful witch. Before him kneeled Maja the Sky Witch. Maja had a pea-green skin and brown hair tied into a large bun that was almost the same size as her head. She wore a light-brown cape covering a teal dress. A black bird rabbit creature called Crabbit sat on her shoulder.

"So you wish to join our little organization. I must say your magic is quite strong. Very well you will be made a member of this organization." Said Crimson.

"Thank you Dark One. I promise I will be a valuable member of your organization." Said Maja with a bow.

"Good. You may go. We will call you if we have need for your services." Said Crimson.

Maja flew away and Crimson went to his private quarters to study a magic book. A tiny white cat with cream/tan colored striped fur, large pink eyes, a mouth with pointed teeth, razor sharp claws, and a long and prehensile came out from under a book and hopped into Crimson's lap. The cat's name was Me-Mow and she was Crimson's pet/sidekick and a deadly assassin.

"So you let the witch join?" Asked Me-Mow.

"I did. Her powers will come in handy in the future." Said Crimson.

"When can I go have some fun?" Asked Me-Mow.

"Patience my little friend, your time will come." Said Crimson.

Several months later Phoebe turned six and for a special surprise Simon was going to take her and Marceline to a festival at the Candy Kingdom. It was night time when they got there and there were a bunch of carnival games and rides set up. Phoebe stared at all the attractions in wonder and awe.

Simon saw Bubblegum in the crowd and she was starring at Phoebe with a look of concern. The relationship between the Candy Kingdom and Fire Kingdom was shaky and the inhabitants of the kingdoms didn't like each other. Simon decided to ease Bubblegum's nerves.

"Marceline why don't you take Phoebe to check out the games. I'm just going to talk to Bubblegum." Said Simon.

"Ok." Said Marceline as she lead Flame Princess to some games.

Simon approached Bubblegum.

"Why is there a Fire Elemental here?" Demanded Bubblegum.

"Calm yourself Princess. That Fire Elemental is named Phoebe and she is the daughter of the rulers of the Fire Kingdom. I am her guardian and I see her as a daughter." Said Simon.

"Explain to me how this came to be and how come, she hasn't burnt anything down?" Said Bubblegum.

Simon explained the whole situation to Bubblegum.

"So the Flame King left his daughter in your care and you created a magical item that allows to touch things without burning them." Said Bubblegum.

"Yes. I believe that if I were to give these items to the rest of the Fire People they would change their ways, though I haven't discussed this with Flame King yet." Said Simon.

"Interesting. So you're saying that the Princess will not hurt anything and has no desire to hurt anyone?" Said Bubblegum.

"That is correct." Said Simon.

"May I study her in my lab? It would be a great opportunity to learn about the Fire People. " Said Bubblegum.

"I'm sorry, but no. Phoebe is a living creature and a member of my family. If you wish to hear what I've learned from watching Phoebe I'll tell you at some other time." Said Simon as he began to walk away.

"Fine." Said Bubblegum looking slightly annoyed.

Crimson was walking around the festival in his royal servant outfit. All the Candy People smiled and waved at him. Crimson waved back. His eyes landed on Marceline and Phoebe up a head. Crimson snuck into a nearby alley and put on his mask and cloak. Me-Mow poked her head out of a pocket.

"Time to get to work." Said Crimson.

Me-Mow nodded and dashed off towards Phoebe. Marceline was signing some autographs for some Candy People, while Phoebe was looking at all the attractions, she then looked down and saw Me-Meow before her. The tiny cat made a silly face and made Flame Princess laugh. The cat then took off and Phoebe went after her away from Marceline. After running several yards Me-Mow stopped running and faced Flame Princess.

"I'll be taking that pendant." Said Me-Mow as she leaped forward and sliced the sun pendent from around Phoebe's neck.

Phoebe's eyes widened in shock. Simon had told to always keep the pendent on her at all times. As soon as the pendent was gone Phoebe's flaming nature kicked in and the ground around became burnt. Phoebe looked at the ground in horror then she looked at Me-Mow.

"Give that back!" She cried.

"I'm sorry my dear, but no." Said Crimson as he came out of the shadows and stood next to Me-Mow.

The villain reached into his cloak and threw a handful of red dust at Phoebe's face. Immediately Phoebe became filled with fear. She screamed in terror as flames started to rise from her body and expand. Me-Mow and jumped onto Crimson's shoulder and they teleported a few yards away to watch. The flames became wild and more uncontrolled. It looked like they might explode. Candy People saw the flames and ran for their lives. Simon saw the flames and Marceline flew up to him.

"Where's Phoebe?" Asked Simon.

"I don't know I was sighing some autographs and she wondered off." Said Marceline as she looked at the flames.

Simon looked at the flames and saw Crimson and Me-Mow standing a few yards away with the sun pendent. Marceline looked at what Simon was looking at and saw the villains with the pendent.

"Give that back!" Shouted Marceline as she charged forward.

Me-Mow let out a scream and dropped the pendent as Crimson teleported them away. Marceline picked the pendent up and faced Simon.

"I'll get this back onto Phoebe and try to calm her down." Said Marceline.

"I'll try to keep these flames from expanding." Said Simon as he started to create an ice wall around the flames.

Marceline took a deep breath and charged right into the flames!

All over Ooo the flames could be seen. On a nearby hill Sylvester stood with a young Fire Boy. Sylvester was checking a device.

"My. My. That Princess is certainly displaying a lot of power for someone her age." Said Sylvester.

"Is her power greater then mine?" Asked the Flame Boy.

"No Pyro it's still below yours, but it's close." Said Sylvester as he studied his device.

Pyro smiled with pride.

Miles away Finn and Jake stared at the flames in awe. They had originally planned to go to the festival, but their mom got sick and they couldn't go. Finn stared at the flames in awe, for some reason he found them both beautiful and terrifying.

In the Candy Kingdom, Marceline raced through the flames looking for Phoebe. Marceline was getting badly burned and her healing ability was barely keeping up with the wounds. Finally she saw something tiny up ahead and realized it was Phoebe. The little girl was crying and screaming in fear. Marceline flew forward and placed the pendent in Phoebe's hands and wrapped her arms around her little sister.

"It's ok Phoebe, I'm here. Nothing bad is going to happen to you." Said Marceline.

"Marcy?" Asked Phoebe as the flames started to die down and vanish.

"Yeah it's me. Everything is going to be ok." Said Marceline.

"Did I...hurt anyone? Did you get burned?" Asked Phoebe as tears formed in her eyes.

"No. It's ok. I can handle a little fire." Said Marceline as her wounds slowly healed up.

Simon appeared before the girls and wrapped his arms around them.

"Thank goodness you're alright." He said as he hugged the girls closely to him.

Several Candy People and Princess Bubblegum stared at the group. Peppermint Butler appeared next to Bubblegum.

"Princess that child exhibit a huge amount of dangerous power." Said Peppermint Butler.

"You're right. That kind of power can't be allowed to roam free. It threatens our kingdom and all of Ooo. I must call the Flame King and make arrangements to have the child returned to her homeland and contained." Said Bubblegum with a serious look in her eyes as she walked off towards her castle.

An hour later Simon, Marceline, and Phoebe were sitting on a park bench eating hot fudge sundaes. Phoebe had calmed down a little, but she was still frightened about the incident. It was then that Flame King and several Fire Guards showed up and landed before the group.

"Flame King what are you doing here?" Asked Simon.

"Princess Bubblegum told me what happened. I'm here to take my daughter home where she belongs." Said Flame King.

"Whose that?" Asked Phoebe as she pointed at Flame King.

"Phoebe this is your real father. He asked me to raise you." Said Simon.

"Daughter it is good to see you." Said Flame King as he looked at his daughter.

Phoebe wasn't sure what to do or say. At that moment Bubblegum arrived with several of her guards pushing a lantern on a dolly.

"What's that?" Asked Marceline.

"This is a special containment unit for the Flame Princess." Said Bubblegum.

"What?" Asked Marceline as she stared at Bubblegum.

"Flame Princess showed a wild uncontrollable amount of power that nearly destroyed my kingdom. That kind of power could destroy all of Ooo! It can not be allowed to roam free. It has to be contained and returned to its homeland." Said Bubblegum.

Flame King stepped forward and picked up Phoebe and carried her to the lantern. Phoebe screamed and kicked, but couldn't break free, she ended up dropping the pendent on the ground.

"I'm sorry daughter, but this is for the best." Said Flame King as he put his daughter in the lantern.

"Let her out!" Screamed Marceline in rage, but the Flame Guards stood in her way.

"Princess Bubblegum this is the wrong kind of action to take! The incident wasn't Phoebe's fault, someone deliberately provoked her and tried to destroy the kingdom." Said Simon as he looked at Bubblegum trying to reason with her

"I'm sorry, but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. This is for the good of Ooo." Said Bubblegum.

A few Flame Guards picked up the lantern and flew up into the air with it followed by Flame King. Phoebe looked down at Simon and Marceline as she pressed her face against the lantern and cried. The Flame People flew out of sight. Marceline felt a few tears fell from her eyes as she gritted her teeth in rage. Before anyone could do anything Marceline flew over to Bubblegum and punched her in the face knocking her to the ground.

"You heartless pink bitch! That was my sister you had locked up! She's a good kid, who wouldn't hurt anyone, but after one little incident that wasn't her fault, you decide she's too dangerous and had her put in a cage! You think you're all high and mighty, maybe someone should lock you up for a change! After all you created a few messed up inventions in your time. Phoebe is innocent and I will no longer be friends with a person, who locks the innocent up!" Shouted Marceline.

Bubblegum groaned in pain as a large bruise appeared on her face.

"Marceline...you have to understand...I was trying to protect Oooo." Said Bubblegum.

"I don't care!" Snarled Marceline in rage.

"I have to agree with Marceline, Bubblegum. There were better options then just locking Phoebe in a lantern and handing her over to her father. Phoebe is a child and didn't deserve this. This course of action has serious consequences." Said Simon as he stared at Bubblegum with a little loathing.

"This was the quickest solution." Said Bubblegum.

"I'm leaving this dump." Said Marceline as she flew off.

"I hope you reconsider what you've done." Said Simon before he took off after Marceline.

The guards helped Bubblegum up and took her to the doctors to be tended to. Peppermint Butler stood nearby with a cruel little smirk on his lips, which disappeared as he went to go help Bubblegum.

In the Fire Kingdom the lantern that contained Phoebe was hung over the throne room. That way her power could be contained and the Flame King could keep a good watchful eye over her to make sure she was safe Phoebe was tucked into a ball crying for her big sister and Simon and wishing to be free.

It would be a few years before Phoebe would experience freedom and until that time came many things would happen.
