Chapter 282: **Chapter 282: Professionalism**
Taking a closer look, Anson confirmed that he wasn't seeing things—it really was Jake Gyllenhaal.
"Jake?" Anson's surprise was no less than Kristen's, and he called out loudly.
Jake casually handed a whole stack of donut boxes to the crew, wiped the sweat off his forehead, and then ran over to Anson and Kristen with a series of small steps. "Hey, man, I just came by to check things out."
Anson: ?
Didn't Jake say yesterday that he wouldn't visit the set today?
Last night, nothing happened. Despite Anson and Annie creating an opportunity, the shy and introverted Jake still didn't seize it. They simply said goodbye at the door of the coffee shop and got into separate taxis.
Nothingness.
The night ended just like that, leaving Anson's efforts in vain.
But Anson didn't say much.
Everyone has their own pace. The idea of something being too fast or too slow is relative. There are no rules about how long after meeting someone you should fall in love, when to confess, or whether you can walk the path together. Every relationship has its own rhythm.
Everything should just go with the flow.
This morning, when Anson left the house, Jake was already up but didn't show any intention of coming along, so Anson didn't push him.
And now?
Anson looked at Jake, giving him a questioning look.
Jake seemed a bit nervous and sent Anson a pleading glance.
Anson understood, a smile appearing in his eyes, and he didn't expose Jake's little scheme. "Thanks, thanks for visiting the set. You didn't forget to tell everyone that you specifically came to visit me and do me a favor, right?"
With this small tease, the atmosphere lightened up before it even had a chance to become awkward.
Anson turned to Kristen. "You probably didn't get a good look last night in the dark, so let me officially introduce you to my friends now."
"Jake, this is Kristen."
"Kristen, this is Jake."
Perfect, everything was very natural.
A smile appeared in Kristen's eyes as she shook hands with Jake, officially meeting him, then she looked at Anson with a somewhat uneasy expression.
And Anson actually understood Kristen—
The next scene.
Jake actually came to visit the set. Is this really okay?
Anson couldn't help but laugh.
Jake really should have asked in advance to avoid this awkward situation.
Anson opened his mouth to explain the situation, but then a mischievous thought crossed his mind. He imagined Jake's reaction and, without picturing it clearly, he couldn't help but feel a bit of anticipation.
After all, they are actors. Once the camera starts rolling, they get into character, and the performance should stay on the set.
That's what professionalism is all about.
Thinking this, Anson swallowed his words and patted Jake on the shoulder. "We're about to start filming. Once we finish this scene, we'll talk more. You should be familiar with the set by now, right?"
Jake glanced at Kristen. "But this set feels completely unfamiliar. Apparently, I don't even know who I am, where I am, or what I'm doing."
A self-deprecating remark.
It was clear that Jake was much calmer and more composed than he had been last night.
Anson nodded seriously. "Keep up that state, or else the Men in Black will have to come and wipe your memory."
Ha!
Kristen and Jake both burst into laughter, exchanging a glance.
Jake's smile grew even brighter. "You guys go ahead and get ready for the shoot. Don't worry about me; I'll find a spot out of the camera's way and stay out of trouble."
Normally, as a guest, you tend to be the center of attention; but on a film set, it's different. Guests need to follow the rules and avoid disrupting the crew's work as much as possible.
Jake understood this perfectly.
The crew, uplifted by the extra donuts for breakfast, quickly completed the preparations. Compared to outdoor scenes, adjusting the lighting indoors was much faster. Then, the cameraman, following Sam's instructions, stepped forward to inform the actors about the camera's movement path.
This scene takes place in a hospital.
The movie had reached its third act. Norman Osborn, gradually being consumed by the Green Goblin, was becoming increasingly insane. He realized that Peter Parker was Spider-Man, and in an attempt to force Spider-Man to join him, he decided to teach Peter a lesson by threatening Aunt May.
Although Aunt May wasn't physically harmed, she suffered severe emotional trauma and ended up in the hospital. Peter learned from her description that Norman Osborn was the one responsible.
After spending the entire night by Aunt May's side at the hospital, Peter was visited by Mary Jane the next morning.
The dialogue takes place by Aunt May's bedside.
On one hand, Peter's mind is in turmoil—he's worried about the Green Goblin losing control and genuinely harming Aunt May, yet he doesn't want to join the Goblin in hurting others.
On the other hand, Mary Jane's relationship with Harry Osborn is also in disarray. Norman Osborn believes Mary Jane is only after his son's wealth, which has created a rift between them.
The hospital, a place already filled with sickness and sorrow, adds to the weight of their emotions. Both of them need to pull themselves together, momentarily escape their negative feelings, and try to find something positive, a direction in life, amidst this conversation.
For the two actors, this scene was challenging.
Anson felt slightly nervous, even though he had attempted a similar performance during the audition. An audition is one thing, but the actual filming is another matter entirely. At the same time, he was eager to get into character in front of the camera.
Kristen was also feeling nervous. After all, she and Anson had only discussed the scene last night, and today they were already diving into it. Was her understanding of Mary Jane's emotional state and her approach correct? Or might she overdo it?
And to top it off, Jake Gyllenhaal was on set.
It felt a little strange.
Of course, this was just a dialogue scene with no physical contact. But when Kristen thought about Mary Jane's state of mind, her thoughts were all over the place.
Looking up, Kristen saw Anson's eyes—calm and composed, with a hint of a smile—helping to ease her tension and anxiety bit by bit.
"Who would've thought, after all these years, I'd still get nervous," Anson teased, making Kristen burst into laughter. Then he added, "That just shows you're still passionate about acting. You not only have a learner's mindset but also a drive to do your best. For someone who's been in the industry for over a decade, that's especially precious."
Kristen was taken aback; she hadn't expected that interpretation.
Anson widened his eyes. "Hey, what does that make my earlier jab? I wasn't seriously calling you an old actor."
A smile crept across Kristen's face. "So, you get nervous too."
Anson opened his mouth slightly, laughing. "Got caught, huh? Well, at least I'm not at the age where I need Botox."
He even mimicked an injection gesture as he spoke.
Kristen couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Then, the sound of the clapperboard echoed in their ears.
"Ready?"
"All set."
They collected themselves, ready to begin.
