Accidentally Mistaken as a Genius Professor

4 - Senile Old People (2)

Professor Scott hates being treated like an old man.
Of course, objectively speaking, he is indeed an old man. After all, it’s not like someone who’s approaching seventy can be called a young man.
But despite that, Scott disliked being treated as an old man.
This is clearly the same principle by which a woman approaching forty trembles with annoyance and feels her insides turn when called a “middle-aged woman.”
I am still robust. Rather, if we’re just comparing abilities, I’m more outstanding than most young people.
These youngsters curse me behind my back as a stubborn old man, but what’s so wrong about trying to maintain courtesy and follow rules?
The problem isn’t with me.
I am not an outdated old man by any means.
Scott had lived with such thoughts. Never once in his life had he doubted that these thoughts might be wrong.
…Until what happened today.
-I’m sorry for being late. I suddenly had an urgent matter.
The new professor who was magnificently late on his first day of work. And on a day with an important task like the final interview.
Far from being ashamed about being late, he didn’t even concentrate on the interview and was lost in thought. There was no way Scott could like him.
Even after giving him a hint by clearing his throat, the shameless attitude that showed no sign of apologizing made Scott immediately brand him as one of ‘these youngsters with no manners.’
When he blurted out those strange racial discriminatory remarks about cotton-picking and whatnot, Scott was indignant and even lost his temper.
But… the one in the wrong was actually Scott.
-How on earth did you discern my true identity!
The boy was actually a demon hiding his identity.
Professor Lian wasn’t spacing out; he was alone in detecting the evil presence and was on guard.
Those strange racial discriminatory remarks earlier were actually a kind of code that hinted at the other’s identity. If Scott had noticed that, things would have been resolved easily.
-I’m disappointed. I expected a bit more from the renowned professors of the Imperial Academy. But in the end, you’re all just low-level humans.
At first glance, it sounded like he was criticizing the professors who failed to notice even his blatant hints.
But the perceptive Scott at least knows.
That the professor wasn’t foolish enough to criticize allies thoughtlessly in such an emergency situation. That there was another intention hidden in it.
-Get out of here right now, you ugly thing! Did you really think you could hide your hideous nature in front of me?
Those exaggerated expressions were clearly all meant to protect them.
A situation where everyone failed to recognize the enemy’s threat.
Surely in such a situation, if the enemy had launched a surprise attack, not only the other professors but even Scott wouldn’t have been safe.
That’s why he drew attention with such excessive behavior.
He provoked the opponent by challenging him to come at him instead of the small fry, limiting the target of attack to himself.
In the end, Lian maintained his composure even in the urgent situation and made the best move. He used himself as bait to save even the person who had been cursing him.
Yet Scott dismissed such a young man simply because of his youth. He didn’t listen to his words, and because of that, they almost had numerous casualties.
‘Though I tried to make up for my mistake somehow.’
Far from making amends, I repeated the same mistake.
Until Lian stepped up, Scott hadn’t considered that the demon might harm the children.
The so-called professor was so distracted by the enemy before him that he completely forgot about the students he should be protecting.
Senility has set in.
A terrible disgrace that can’t be excused even if cursed at.
That’s why Scott now sought out Professor Lian.
To apologize for his mistake and to properly compensate.
“I’ll give you the right to oversee the top-tier A-class of this year’s freshmen.”
Pathetically, his mouth doesn’t move well.
The Holy Maiden of the Pontifical See and the Princess of the Empire.
An opportunity to become the mentor to such figures.
Scott himself knew better than anyone the political value this position held.
How much had the influential figures of the Empire fought for this position? And how intense an underwater struggle had he himself gone through to grasp this honor?
He couldn’t forget it even if he tried.
His heart still sinks when he thinks about how a professor planted by the Golden Faction tried to assassinate him.
But even so, after all.
“It’s you who is suited for this position. If an old back-room man like me is greedy, it’ll only make me look ugly.”
It was time to acknowledge it.
That he was indeed just a stubborn old man.
With age, his thinking had hardened. Due to prejudice, his vision was clouded, preventing him from recognizing even the character of that young man.
Education is about fostering people’s growth.
How can someone who can’t even see people properly nurture students? Perhaps it’s about time to consider retiring from teaching.
“I’ve already informed the principal. Please nurture the students well in my stead.”
He pats the new professor’s shoulder and turns around.
The old man exits, and a capable young man newly takes the stage, thus concluding today’s incident.
That was certainly Scott’s intention, but…
“Please wait a moment!”
A voice from behind holds him back. Lian urgently shouted without even giving him time to respond.
“For someone like me to dare take the place of a senior, that’s impossible!”
From any angle, it sounds like mere courtesy.
A polite young man trying to uphold an old man’s pride until the end. With such thoughts, Scott turned his head, only for his face to be instantly colored with astonishment.
He couldn’t help but be astonished.
“I’ve also heard stories about you, senior. How many achievements you’ve made, how many talented individuals you’ve nurtured with your own hands.”
There wasn’t a trace of falsehood in his words.
An opportunity that anyone would covet.
Despite having obtained it, the man didn’t look happy at all. Rather, he seemed overwhelmed with burden.
…He’s sincere.
That expression can’t possibly be an act. Lian is speaking those words with genuine sincerity right now.
“I respect you, senior! It’s because of you that I wanted to join the academy!”
Professor Lian even sobbed as he shouted that.
Overwhelmed by that desperate voice, Scott couldn’t say a word. No words would come out.
“Even if you call yourself a back-room old man, I at least know. That your integrity hasn’t changed in the slightest even after decades.”
Acknowledging one’s own mistakes and working to correct them.
The heart that always strives to be right still remains the same even now.
That’s why you are noble.
That’s why your spirit hasn’t aged yet.
The professor before him shouts such things towards Scott.
He told him that Scott isn’t just some stubborn old man, but someone who always strives to be upright, and thus his goal and someone he wants to emulate.
…Emotions well up.
When the words he most wanted to hear came from the person he most wanted to hear them from, he couldn’t control his feelings.
Tears rose sentimentally. He felt like he might sit down and weep right then and there.
Fortunately, he still had enough presence of mind not to make a disgraceful scene in front of a junior who respected him.
He turns his head so Lian can’t see his face. Quickly wipes away tears with his handkerchief.
A skillful response steeped in years of experience.
Without a trace of sobbing in his voice, Scott declared proudly with his chest out.
“I will never forget today’s kindness.”
When the new professor takes on the important responsibility of guiding the royal family, there will naturally be people who raise objections.
Moreover, he’s such an outstanding young man.
A protruding stone always gets hammered down. There will be those who envy his talent and those who try to break him early out of fear of his growth.
But that’s no longer a problem.
“If you need help, just say the word. If an old man’s hand is acceptable, I’ll lend it anytime.”
The knight who once subjugated a country single-handedly.
‘Iron Blood Duke’ Scott Fenrir will be on his side.

The professor who unexpectedly burst into tears after I praised him and then left.
Left alone, I stood there dumbfounded for a while before realizing one important fact.
Professor Scott, who said he would pass me the authority to oversee A-class and that he had already discussed it with the principal, did not withdraw that statement until the end.
Thank you, or contact me anytime.
He kept changing the subject with strange talk without meeting my eyes, and then suddenly ran away.
Judging from that situation, even if I bring up the topic again tomorrow, Professor Scott will absolutely not cancel his decision.
In other words…
‘Did I just get dumped with a superior’s workload?’
