Academy Genius Commander

chapter 4

4 – To the Rhineland Front (3)

During the given period of about a month, I trained the soldiers of the platoon in various ways.

Ceremonial training to learn discipline and align moving movements into one, four basic movements most necessary when handling spears and postures suitable for each movement, basic physical training, education to listen to and immediately understand the commands of the platoon commander, PT gymnastics, walking, etc. ..

If you are a person who has been in the military in Korea, or even if you have not done it, you can easily access it by watching YouTube.

So, it may seem flimsy, but in this world where the level of military science is between the Middle Ages and the early modern era, even this basic training is tantamount to a military revolution.

Because in the Reich Empire, there is a course dedicated to officers and knights that educates the necessary capabilities as a soldier over several years, and some of it is taught to soldiers as attributes.

It is very difficult to train soldiers in such a short amount of time to follow orders like left, right and anti-cavalry formations without error.

So, to be honest, the first chapter of the Empire’s military manual even states these words.

‘In training, it’s enough to teach you how to hold a spear, walk, and stab. The soldiers will learn the rest by copying the veterans on the battlefield.’

But the current Jaeger Platoon.

“Start training. Jaeger platoon form an anti-cavalry square! Enemy knights are coming from the right!”

Sergeant Schmitz repeated my order.

“Each squad form an anti-cavalry square! The knights are coming!”

Following that instruction, the soldiers holding the spears set their spears on the ground at an angle of 45 degrees, as if measured with a knife, and then firmly gripped the middle of the spears with their right hands.

At the same time, he placed his left hand on the handle of the sword tucked in his right to prepare for the charge.

Crossbowmen, two in each squad, aimed their crossbows in close quarters without gaps.

It took about 50 seconds for the dust to form completely.

Considering that it took more than 10 minutes to form the first airborne square, the feeling is immeasurable.

“Crossbowmen aim for the horse and shoot all at once, loaders, and spearmen aim for the horse’s chin! The enemy is approaching!”

When my order was given again, the soldiers pointed their weapons at the imaginary enemy with twinkling eyes, as if to demonstrate what practical combat training was all about.

First the soldiers with crossbows fired arrows without arrowheads, and the spearmen drove the tips of their spears deeper into the ground.

After five seconds, the soldiers adjusted the angle of the spear point to the place where the horse’s neck was likely to be.

And perhaps thanks to the hard training, the soldiers all handled the spear at the same angle and speed, and it was like watching a scene in a movie.

“Everybody get some rest!”

At that, the soldiers matched their steps, turned to the right, and tilted their spears forward about 30 degrees.

Is it because the left hand, which is not being used, is straight and attached to the waist to form an angle?

If you look at their posture already, you can feel like a warrior who has been in the war for several years.

When everyone focused on me like that, I opened my mouth and said.

“I am very satisfied with the way you all move as one body after only one month of training.”

If you look closely, you can still find a lot of lacking parts, and if you improve those weaknesses one by one, you can improve further.

There are only two days left until the mock battle.

Since today’s training has ended, there is actually only one day left, but if you try to find and improve the soldiers’ shortcomings by cramming, it will not have any effect.

No, if you train the soldiers without giving them time to rest until the day before the mock battle, their stamina will decrease and their combat power will decrease.

So in this situation, it would be better to cover everything up and praise it to raise morale.

“You must already feel the changed selves and the platoon, but as of today, you guys are beeping and proclaiming that you have definitely graduated as new recruits who don’t even know the left or the right. Now, as soldiers of the Empire, you will be able to fight in full step with other units as well as the platoon members next to you. I am proud of you guys who followed through the hard training until this point without saying anything.”

The soldiers responded with applause to my assertion that they had grown to a higher level, perhaps because they recalled the memories of all the hardships they had endured in training so far, or if they thought that they were proud of having endured so far.

“Today’s training will end here, and tomorrow there will be no training other than checking what has been trained so far. In addition, to wish for victory, we will hold a dinner party tomorrow, but we will ban alcohol.”

At those words, there was a look of regret on the faces of the soldiers, but it couldn’t be helped.

If you’re not sober during a mock battle and your legs are wobbly, everything you’ve trained so far will be for nothing.

“Instead, if you win the mock battle the day after tomorrow, I’ll let you eat as much alcohol and meat as you want. I promise in the name of the platoon commander. What can I do?”

At that, the soldiers shouted in unison.

“Yes, you can!”

“Okay, then go in and rest for today.”

The day before the mock battle to select academy cadets to go to the Rhineland front.

Lieutenant Colonel Hans Webber, who had been selected as the examiner for the selection test, was on his way to inspect the training of the platoon led by the applicants to see if there were any useful officer candidates.

He was very dissatisfied with being drafted here, leaving the soldiers of his battalion suffering on the front line of the Rhineland.

The reason why Lieutenant Colonel Hans was dispatched to the academy selection was…

The picture the emperor wants is a scene in which young people who haven’t even graduated from the academy apply for the Rhineland front first.

It was to publicize throughout the empire that the Crown Prince was thrilled with their enthusiasm and showed himself taking the lead in being on the front line, so that he had the qualifications as a candidate for the next emperor.

“I can understand how you feel about His Majesty’s Crown Prince, but with 20 academy students applying, you must have had close to 700 soldiers. Will the youngsters be able to properly use the trained soldiers on the battlefield?”

The lieutenant colonel grumbled at the thought of a future in which soldiers would have to be retrained because of stupid kids who hadn’t seen real combat.

As I moved my steps, I saw a platoon led by cadet Richard de Feynman closest to me.

“Tomorrow is a mock battle! If you win the match, you will be able to enjoy alcohol, meat, and women! So cheer up! Window down and forward!”

The soldiers of Feynman’s platoon pointed their spears at the command of the platoon commander and took one or two steps forward.

The length of each step was inconsistent, and even the stabbing motions in line with the slogans were rippling like waves.

At least the soldiers were working hard, blinded by the reward offered by Richard, but a soldier with only momentum is useless.

‘I can’t possibly use it in practice. Now that this has happened, should I suggest to His Majesty that the platoon trained by the academy guys be used as rear support?’

Twenty academy students will learn the importance of supply work supporting soldiers from the rear, and will also gain a reputation as patriotic talents.

It would be propaganda that His Highness the Crown Prince encouraged young people who worked hard with passion to save the country even in seemingly insignificant tasks in the rear.

The lieutenant colonel inspected the training status of dozens of students from a distance and said to the professor who was guiding him.

“Professor Bylot, I’m sorry, but I don’t think it’s worth looking back here any longer.”

Even the words “not worth looking back on” are shocking, but the meaning behind them is even more serious.

It meant that there were no talents who could be put into the front line in this selection.

If that happens, the quality of the professors in charge of the third and fourth years at the academy may be questioned.

This is because, although the students who applied this time are usually middle-level or lower-middle-level students, as long as they are about to graduate from the academy, they should be able to fulfill their role on the power front regardless of their grades.

Bylot broke out in a cold sweat and answered.

“no. How many more are there left? Also, no matter how capable and brilliant our students are, to a superior commander like Colonel Webber, they will only look like squeaky chicks. Besides, isn’t training only for a month?”

Lieutenant Colonel Webber nodded as if he understood what he said.

“Certainly, second lieutenants who graduated from the academy are not very reliable in their first or second year as a platoon leader, but it would be difficult for a student commander who has not graduated to train a usable platoon in one month. I will be satisfied with a level that can be used with a little training in practice.”

“hahahaha, thank you.”

“I will re-evaluate, so please wait.”

The lieutenant colonel changed the evaluation items of each platoon he was holding from a level that he could use right away in actual combat, to a level that he could fulfill his role with a little more refinement.

In line with that, the evaluation level of each platoon was lowered and said.

“Now, the last one must be the platoon with Peter Yeager. I’ll just look back at this point, and I’ll go back and rest for today.”

And now he headed to the place where Peter Yeager’s platoon was to be evaluated for the last time.

“Tomorrow is a mock battle, so for now I just practice spearmen and finish it. After training, I will make you eat as much as you want, so do your best!”

“Yes, I understand!”

“Enemy infantry is approaching ahead! Get down the window and prepare to fight!”

In line with those words, the soldiers aimed their 4-meter long spears at the height of the enemy soldiers’ necks, matching their steps and moving as a single mass.

“The enemy is approaching. Walk and stab the spear!”

The foot soldiers of the platoon swung their spears to the right, kicked away the spears of an imaginary enemy, and then slashed the spears at their necks in unison.

Because they had not been trained through the war, they lacked strength, so although the speed was not fast, it was a solidarity that could be used in real battles.

Professor Bylot and Lieutenant Colonel Webber watched as they trained in disbelief at the fact that a mere cadet had formed a proper platoon in a short period of a month.

“Okay, good job everyone. Under the guidance of the deputy platoon commander, I will go to the jubo merchant and allow you to eat as much meat as you want. dissolution.”

Professor Bylot and the lieutenant colonel both wanted to ask how they could train such a platoon, but…

The status they had got in their way.

In particular, Lieutenant Colonel Webber, who had interviewed Peter from four years ago and now became Peter Yeager, had this thought.

The guy I picked at the interview might be a genius who could overturn the empire’s military science from the ground up.
