Chapter 7. A Romance? The Kidney-Stealing Kind (7)
“Will you agree?”
Yin Meichang ignored Huo Han’s anguished cries as he was beaten, still shouting for Shen Wan not to agree to her terms. She regretted meeting this girl only when her life was nearing its end. The girl despised Huo Han but didn’t reject her advances. Why couldn’t they take things further?
“Miss Yin, you’re truly despicable.”
Shen Wan glared, her voice filled with anger. Yet those beautiful eyes held not a trace of fury. This reaction made Yin Meichang’s heart lighten. So, they could progress further, right?
She placed her hand on Shen Wan’s frail shoulder and leaned close to her ear, speaking loud enough to be heard, “I’ve never been a good person. If it means having you, what’s a little despicable behavior? Wan Wan, agree, and I’ll release Huo Han immediately.”
“I…”
“Wan Wan, don’t agree! She wouldn’t dare do anything to me. I’ll just endure a beating at most. Don’t agree to this vile woman’s terms!” Huo Han shouted. He looked up to see Shen Wan’s hesitant expression and tried to speak again, but the bodyguards, following Yin Meichang’s signal, pressed him harder against the ground.
Yin Meichang cast a cold glance at the beaten Huo Han, smiling like a villain. “As it happens, I recently acquired ten percent of Huo Corporation’s shares. Mr. Huo, how do you think those shareholders who want to oust you would feel if I sold them these shares?”
“Yin Meichang, you’re despicable!” Huo Han snarled through gritted teeth.
Shen Wan tugged at Yin Meichang’s wrist, looking pitiful as she pleaded softly, “Miss Yin, I agree.”
“Agree to what?” Yin Meichang’s lips curved into a smile as she asked gently.
Shen Wan lowered her head slightly. From Huo Han’s perspective, she appeared to be making a difficult choice. In her frail state, she was willing to accept Yin Meichang’s shameless demands for his sake. Huo Han felt both furious and heartbroken, cursing Yin Meichang. After just a few words, a bodyguard’s fist connected with his face, making him see stars.
“I agree to be with you, even if it means marriage.” Shen Wan pressed her lips together tightly, suppressing a joyful smile and containing her inner elation. Miss Yin was amazing; she adored her.
She lifted her head, her expression seemingly resigned. Yin Meichang, who had long seen through her, didn’t believe her agreement was reluctant at all. “Miss Yin, please let Huo Han go. I’ll never see him again.”
From now on, I’ll be yours in life and in death.
“Are you certain?” Yin Meichang caressed Shen Wan’s gaunt cheek, her expression serious. “Once you agree, there’s no turning back. I’ll start preparing for the wedding immediately.”
“Wan Wan——”
Before Huo Han could finish, a bodyguard’s fist struck his stomach.
Shen Wan glanced at the pain-stricken Huo Han from the corner of her eye, feeling immensely satisfied. If she didn’t want this scumbag to suffer a bit longer, she would have agreed to Miss Yin’s request much earlier.
“I’ve made up my mind, Miss Yin. I’m willing to be with you, to marry you, and never see Huo Han again.”
[188: “Wan Wan…”] 188 couldn’t sit still anymore. The plot had deviated beyond correction.
“188, it’s not my fault. Miss Yin is coercing me, forcing me, threatening me. I love Huo Han so much, how could I bear to let him be ousted by Huo Corporation’s shareholders because of me? If I were cold-hearted and refused, it would prove I don’t love him. Agreeing to Miss Yin’s conditions shows how deeply I love him, willing to sacrifice myself. This kind of love even moves me.”
What nonsense! 188 was in despair. He knew that from the moment Shen Wan met Yin Meichang, no matter how straight the plot was, it would veer off in a bizarre direction.
“188, relax. Look, the alarm hasn’t gone off, which proves there’s nothing wrong with my actions.”
188 thought the alarm might be malfunctioning due to age.
Huo Han felt regretful and desperate. If it weren’t for him, how could Shen Wan be blackmailed by Yin Meichang? She was dying, yet she agreed to Yin Meichang’s despicable conditions. How much did she love him? How could he have ever thought of harming her, even taking her life? As Huo Han wallowed in sorrow, the bodyguards threw him out of the villa.
Yin Meichang took Shen Wan’s hand and led her to the sofa. She pinched Shen Wan’s gaunt face, which had lost most of its features due to weight loss. Unable to resist, she kissed Shen Wan’s forehead and said softly, “I’ve already sent people to prepare for the wedding.”
“So quickly, Miss Yin?”
Shen Wan feigned surprise while inwardly savoring the sensation of Yin Meichang’s two kisses. One on the corner of her mouth, and just now on her forehead. The feeling of being gently kissed by someone you like was too wonderful, something a single-dog system like 188 could never experience. She wondered when she might be able to wrap her arms around Miss Yin’s slender waist and plant a couple of kisses on her.
“What, you’re unwilling?” Yin Meichang’s face turned threatening. “If you back out, I’ll deal with Huo Han and ensure he never recovers. I have plenty of dirt on him…”
Shen Wan quickly grabbed Yin Meichang’s hand, pleading, “No, I’m not unwilling. Miss Yin, I said I’d agree to anything as long as you spare Huo Han today. Don’t worry, I won’t go back on my word.”
188: What more could he say? Hah… Shen Wan’s words were all lies. What Miss Yin threatening, Miss Yin forcing? She was probably overjoyed inside.
Yin Meichang narrowed her eyes. Spare Huo Han today? She could hardly contain herself. How could her Wan Wan be so adorable? This was hinting at wanting her to destroy Huo Han gradually. If this was her final wish, she would certainly fulfill it.
Miss Yin’s calculating expression was captivating, impossible to look away from. Shen Wan stared at Yin Meichang unblinkingly, her hands clasped tightly, afraid she might lose control and pounce on her.
“Wait for me at home, I’ll go prepare our wedding.”
Yin Meichang placed another brief kiss on the corner of Shen Wan’s lips, left a parting word, and turned to leave. Normally, a wedding would require careful preparation, at least a month in advance, but she didn’t know how long Shen Wan could hold on.
While preparing for the wedding, Yin Meichang didn’t forget to create obstacles for Huo Han. Shen Wan despised Huo Han and wanted him to suffer, and she disliked him too. How could she let Huo Han make a comeback? She sold part of her Huo Corporation shares to shareholders who wanted to oust Huo Han, bringing their shareholdings to roughly equal levels.
Hearing that Huo Ting had been forcibly confined to the hospital by Huo Han, she had someone bring Huo Ting out while Huo Han wasn’t paying attention.
“President Yin.” Huo Ting was still recovering, bitter about Huo Han’s change of heart and his cruel confinement of her in the hospital. Never in her life had Huo Ting suffered like this. Learning that Huo Han had fallen for Shen Wan left her in agony.
Yin Meichang smiled faintly. “Miss Huo.”
“President Yin, if you’re thinking of using me against my brother, it won’t work. I won’t agree.” Even if Huo Han didn’t love her anymore, she wouldn’t help an outsider against him.
“I don’t need Miss Huo to help me deal with Huo Han. I just want to warn you to keep him in check. If I find him bothering Wan Wan again, I won’t be so polite.”
Huo Ting was confused until she heard Yin Meichang say, “Wan Wan and I are getting married.”
Huo Ting, still bewildered, felt her dislike for Shen Wan dissipate upon hearing about their marriage. She had hated Shen Wan because Huo Han liked her—who wouldn’t hate their romantic rival? Learning of Shen Wan’s terminal illness and impending death left her with mixed feelings. She had thought herself unlucky with her kidney disease, but Shen Wan was even more unfortunate with a life-threatening condition.
She only knew that Shen Wan shared her father, but was unclear about what had happened between their parents’ generation. In her heart, she was part of the Huo family, and the man she loved was her non-blood-related brother, Huo Han. She didn’t care about her relationship with Shen Wan and had no desire to acknowledge it. When she first learned that Huo Han was with Shen Wan to secure a kidney transplant for her, she hadn’t wanted Shen Wan’s kidney. But she didn’t want to die, fearing she’d lose Huo Han forever if she did.
Later, when a new kidney was found, she was immensely relieved. Shen Wan could finally be out of the picture, and her brother wouldn’t have to sacrifice himself by staying with her. She never expected Huo Han to fall for Shen Wan. How could she accept that? For Shen Wan’s sake, he even confined her to the hospital, scolding her for being selfish. Yet she still loved her brother. In this world, he was all she had.
“Congratulations, President Yin.” Huo Ting was delighted to hear this news. If Shen Wan married Yin Meichang, wouldn’t that mean no one would steal her brother away?
“I’ll keep an eye on my brother. As long as Shen Wan doesn’t come looking for him, I’ll make sure he stays put.” Huo Ting secretly resolved to keep Huo Han by her side, no matter what it took.
As the pleasant conversation ended, Yin Meichang watched the smiling Huo Ting leave, feeling smug. She didn’t consider herself despicable at all. Recalling how Wan Wan had called her despicable, she suddenly felt that the word was a compliment.
If Wan Wan could stay with her forever, she’d be happy to hear her call her despicable every day. It would make her heart sing.
Three days later, Yin Meichang returned to the villa with a large bouquet of roses. She approached Shen Wan, who was sitting cross-legged on the sofa playing a game. Taking away Shen Wan’s phone, she placed the roses in her arms, then pulled out a ring box from her handbag. She took out an exquisite diamond ring and slipped it onto Shen Wan’s finger. Then she placed the remaining ring from the box in Shen Wan’s hand, extending her slender finger towards Shen Wan with an enchanting smile. “Wan Wan, put it on me.”
Shen Wan: ?
Seeing Shen Wan’s bewilderment, Yin Meichang leaned in and kissed her cheek, her voice carrying a hint of threat, “What’s wrong? Unwilling? Should I deal with Huo Han…”
“Willing, willing, I’m willing, absolutely willing.”
Shen Wan hastily replied, truly more than willing. She quickly slipped the diamond ring onto Yin Meichang’s finger, not letting go of that smooth, delicate hand afterward. She had merely forgotten to release it, not intentionally holding on, while secretly telling 188, “188, you saw that, she threatened me with Huo Han. It’s not my fault. If I didn’t agree, she’d destroy Huo Han. I love him so much…”
[188: “Get lost! Go away, I’m not listening.”]
