Chapter 13. A Romance? The Kidney-Stealing Kind (13)
Yin Meichang’s smile returned, the worry in her eyes vanishing. Seeing Shen Wan’s frustrated expression, she comforted her, “It’s quite fashionable. I think it looks great.”
Anything on her Wan Wan’s feet was perfect.
“Really?”
Shen Wan looked unconvinced, glancing at her mismatched flats. They seemed odd no matter how she looked at them, not beautiful at all. But Little Mei saying they looked good gave her some confidence.
Yin Meichang nodded eagerly, “Truly. They’re very pretty, fashionable, stylish, attractive, and unique.” Her expression was serious, her tone sincere. “Fashion shows now feature asymmetrical outfits with mismatched colors. Even suits can be half black, half white. Add wings, remove some fabric, put holes in strange places, drape a rag—all sorts of color combinations incomprehensible to ordinary people are praised as best-dressed.”
“Well, when you put it that way, it doesn’t sound so bad.”
Yin Meichang’s praise made Shen Wan temporarily accept her mismatched shoes.
“Little Mei, you get back to work. I’m leaving.”
Having accepted the situation, Shen Wan planned to hurry home and change her shoes. “188, you’re getting revenge, aren’t you?”
[188: “Wan Wan, President Little Mei said your shoes look good like that.”] With the alarm still silent despite the female lead marrying and doing unspeakable things with a female supporting character, 188 had given up on encouraging Shen Wan to be sweet with the male lead. He was just waiting for this world to end and see the ratings from a hundred seasoned readers. Perhaps his host would create another miracle?
“Little Mei has good taste.” Shen Wan unconsciously praised her wife to 188, said goodbye to Yin Meichang, and left.
Yin Meichang escorted Shen Wan to the door, watching her leave with reluctance. Just as she was about to close the door, Shen Wan rushed back with the lunch box, pushing her into the office and quickly locking the door.
“What’s wrong?” Yin Meichang was pleased Shen Wan had returned, feeling a sense of regaining something lost.
“Little Mei, let’s go home together when it gets dark.”
“Why?” Yin Meichang was curious about what made Shen Wan suddenly want to stay in the office until nightfall.
Shen Wan’s expression was complicated as she sat down, lifting her foot. “I just stepped out, and all your employees were staring at my shoes. Even though they pretended not to notice, I could tell they were secretly laughing. It’s better to go back when it’s dark. Then no one will notice what shoes I’m wearing.”
“Won’t you be bored here?” Yin Meichang was delighted, of course, and didn’t mention that she could send someone to buy new shoes for Shen Wan. Having her wife keep her company at work was wonderful. Why would she do something counterproductive to that?
“I won’t be. I’ll just sit here and play games, without disturbing your work.”
Reassured, Yin Meichang stroked Shen Wan’s cheek and kissed her forehead. “Then I’ll finish my work quickly so we can go home early.”
“No need. Take your time. It’s fine if we go back when it’s dark.”
Yin Meichang understood, remembering Shen Wan’s earlier comment about people not noticing her shoes in the dark. She found it amusing but hoped Shen Wan would wear mismatched shoes every day. With her loved one by her side, even the dullest tasks became interesting.
Yin Meichang didn’t notice the smug smile that flashed across Shen Wan’s face as she turned back to her desk. As a system, 188 certainly noticed.
Hah!
Earlier, only the secretary and one assistant had actually noticed Shen Wan’s mismatched shoes. His host was using this excuse to spend time with President Little Mei at the company.
How cunning.
Yin Meichang occasionally looked up to check on Shen Wan.
Seeing her happily playing on her phone, she returned to her work, her smile never fading. Hours flew by, and with Shen Wan physically present, she didn’t need to look at photos to think of her. Focused on her tasks, her efficiency was even higher than before.
Shen Wan wasn’t really playing games. 188 saw clearly that she was taking photos of President Little Mei from various angles. Her phone was full of pictures capturing Yin Meichang’s different expressions. 188 was exasperated. Why was he bound to such a twisted host? Though she always completed her missions, she always did things along the way that nearly gave him a heart attack.
At 6 PM, Yin Meichang finished her work. As she stretched, Shen Wan’s voice sounded beside her, “Is that our wedding photo?”
“Yes, it is.”
Yin Meichang closed all the pop-ups and filed away the scattered documents on her desk. Soon, the desktop was clear except for their wedding photo.
“This too?”
Shen Wan just noticed that the frame on the side also held their wedding photo. She was overjoyed. Her Little Mei wife was so devoted; she loved it.
“They all are. Everywhere a photo can be placed, it’s our wedding photo,” Yin Meichang said without hesitation, even showing her phone where every possible spot also displayed their wedding photo.
Shen Wan was so excited her heart nearly leapt out. Trying to control her irrepressible smile, she said seriously, “I never expected such a despicable woman to like me so much.”
188: Pfft, why pretend? You’re ecstatic inside, you contrary woman.
“I’ve finished most of today’s work. Wan Wan, let’s go home.” Today’s efficiency had been excellent. Yin Meichang believed it was due to Shen Wan’s company, making her eager to complete everything so she could spend time with her love.
“Wait a moment, I’ll touch up my makeup in the rest room.” Yin Meichang habitually pinched Shen Wan’s cheek, pushing her into the seat. “Sit here and be good.”
“Alright, I’ll do as you say.”
She always listened to her wife.
Ten minutes later, Yin Meichang emerged from the rest room.
“Let’s go.” She had her bag on her shoulder and picked up the lunch box from the desk. Shen Wan, looking at Yin Meichang beside her, said, “Little Mei, let me carry the lunch box.”
It would be inconvenient to carry both the bag and the lunch box.
Mainly because carrying both would leave no hand free to hold hers.
That wouldn’t do. How could a mere lunch box occupy her wife’s hand, taking the place that belonged to her?
So, it was best if she carried the lunch box and Little Mei held her hand.
Yin Meichang’s eyes twinkled with amusement, her freshly applied red lips particularly vivid. “Alright, here you go.” As Shen Wan took the lunch box, she naturally held Shen Wan’s hand, her eyes brimming with undisguised joy. Her Wan Wan’s little thoughts were so endearing.
They left the office hand in hand, with Yin Corporation employees lifting their heads in unison to greet Yin Meichang. She nodded back with a smile. While waiting for the elevator, someone stared at Shen Wan and Yin Meichang’s feet in surprise, eyes widening and covering their mouth as if to stifle a scream.
Oh my god, it’s confirmed! True love!!
Many people knew about Shen Wan wearing mismatched shoes. Several employees had entered Yin Meichang’s office during the afternoon. If one person knew, the whole company would soon know.
They hadn’t expected to be fed dog food all day, and now, just before going home, they were force-fed another mouthful.
Was President Yin worried they wouldn’t have time to cook at home, so she was filling them up with dog food?
“President Yin and her wife are so in love.”
Ordinary employees might scream internally but wouldn’t dare say anything in front of the couple. Coincidentally, a female executive of the company also approached the elevator, witnessing the heartwarming scene. Her usually stern face softened into a gentle smile.
Yin Meichang gripped Shen Wan’s hand tighter. “We’re wives, of course our relationship is good.”
Shen Wan also noticed more people gathering around, their gazes seemingly fixed on her feet. She quickly looked down, not only seeing her own mismatched flats but also noticing that Yin Meichang was wearing two different high heels.
Hand in hand, their four feet wore shoes of different colors and styles, yet somehow looked perfectly matched and harmonious.
Shen Wan looked up to meet Yin Meichang’s loving, tender gaze, and promptly averted her eyes. Little Mei’s eyes were electric; one look made her fall deeper. If she kept looking, she might lose control and blurt out all sorts of nonsense. If she said something she shouldn’t, it would be over.
But she was so happy. She wanted to say a million times in her heart: Little Mei, Little Mei, I love you, I love you so much.
With a ding, the elevator doors opened.
No one rushed in. Yin Meichang naturally led Shen Wan into the elevator. The others followed in an orderly fashion, still unable to resist glancing at Shen Wan and Yin Meichang’s feet. Even though it wasn’t their own romance, witnessing such a beautiful, fairy-tale love warmed their hearts.
“Little Mei, you must have put on the wrong shoes too,” Shen Wan said once they were in the car, eyeing Yin Meichang’s mismatched high heels. No matter how she tried, she couldn’t hide her joy.
This time, Yin Meichang didn’t play along. She held the back of Shen Wan’s head and kissed those deceiving little lips directly. After a long moment, she said, “Wan Wan, I did it on purpose. Do you understand?”
Oh my, Little Mei, you’re being too direct. She couldn’t handle it.
Understand, understand… She understood perfectly!
Seeing Shen Wan’s lipstick-smeared mouth and excited eyes, Yin Meichang burst into laughter.
188: What a disgrace to the Time-Space Department!
