Chapter 11. A Romance? The Kidney-Stealing Kind (11)
On the second night of their marriage, 188’s censorship had just lifted when he overheard Yin Meichang and Shen Wan’s conversation, nearly dying of frustration.
Yin Meichang: “Wan Wan.”
Shen Wan: “Hm?”
“You didn’t drink today, did you?”
“No, where would I get alcohol? You despicable woman, you’ve been watching me like a hawk all day. How could I drink?” Shen Wan said, her lips curling slightly. With the lights off, Yin Meichang couldn’t see her sweet smile.
But being so close, how could Yin Meichang not sense the girl beside her was in a good mood? Recalling earlier events, she felt both amused and shy. She draped her arm over Shen Wan, moving closer to embrace her gently.
“Wan Wan, you didn’t drink today, so there’s no alcohol-induced passion. Why were you so forward with me tonight? You were very enthusiastic, you know?”
188: Can we censor this blushing sweet talk? I don’t want to hear it.
Yin Meichang nuzzled Shen Wan’s gaunt cheek, kissing her face. “Can you explain? Your enthusiasm makes me wonder if you’ve fallen for me.”
“Woman, you’re overthinking.”
“Oh, really? Can you explain why you acted that way with me just now?”
In the dark room, Shen Wan felt the woman embracing her, her heart racing like ten galloping horses. She wanted to whisper lovingly in her ear, “Little Mei, of course I love you. That’s why I was so forward. If I didn’t love you, why would I desire your body? If I didn’t love you, why wouldn’t I resist?”
“Little Mei, truthfully, I have very weak willpower,” Shen Wan said seriously. “I can act wildly when drunk, and when faced with beauty, as a normal adult, I can’t resist. It’s all because you’re excessively beautiful and alluring, crushing my willpower, bewitching my mind, making me do such shameless things.”
188: What utter nonsense!
“So you’re saying it’s my fault for being too attractive and alluring?”
“Exactly! Little Mei, you truly deserve to be the Yin Corporation President. You’re so smart, understanding immediately.”
Yin Meichang’s lips curved into a smile as she stroked Shen Wan’s cheek. “Well, that’s fine too. If I can’t have your heart, at least I can make you desire my body. That’s an achievement of sorts.”
Shen Wan thought: My heart and body have long belonged to Little Mei.
“Wan Wan, let’s sleep.”
Yin Meichang wrapped her arm around Shen Wan’s waist, pressing close together. Feeling Shen Wan’s complete acceptance, her heart melted. If it was her excessive beauty to blame, perhaps she should take even better care of herself, hoping to make her Wan Wan desire her body for a lifetime. But their lifetime together seemed so short.
[188: “Wan Wan, do you plan to stay entangled with Yin Meichang in this world?”]
“Did the alarm go off?”
[188: “No.”]
“Then I haven’t broken any rules. I love Huo Han. I married Yin Meichang to save Huo Han. 188, you can’t misunderstand my devotion to Huo Han.”
Hah, who are you trying to fool?
[188: “What if the mission fails? Wan Wan, do you have some plan? I’ve been thinking, and I’ve realized your behavior was off from the start. It’s like you never intended to have a sweet romance with the male lead?”]
“I’m so tired. Going to sleep.”
188: “…” Can I request a host transfer?
To enjoy a sweet honeymoon with Shen Wan, Yin Meichang took a seven-day vacation. Once over, she became even busier than before. As Yin Corporation’s President, she couldn’t spend every day at home.
However, now that she had married her beloved, she certainly couldn’t be as busy as before. Especially since they didn’t know how much time they had left. She absolutely couldn’t neglect the person she had worked so hard to win over.
She had never hoped so fervently for fewer daily tasks, to process documents faster. She wanted to return home earlier. Yin Corporation employees found their President even stricter than before. As soon as she arrived, she urged them to complete their tasks efficiently. She herself worked tirelessly, hardly resting.
Whenever she had a moment of free time, her secretary would notice Yin Meichang calling home, asking about her wife’s activities, her condition, if she felt unwell, what she ate for lunch, if she felt nauseous while eating.
Seeing Yin Meichang’s worried expression, the secretary felt sympathy. Almost everyone knew about the President’s wife’s serious illness—an untreatable late-stage terminal condition. With such an illness, each day was a blessing. They had never seen the President care so much for someone, nor had they seen the strong-willed Yin Meichang so attentive on the phone, even showing vulnerability and concern in her eyes.
She seemed afraid that each call might bring terrible news. Only after about ten seconds, presumably hearing that her wife was doing alright, would the President show a relieved smile.
“President Yin, your takeout has arrived.” The secretary had been waiting for Yin Meichang to finish her call with a smile before bringing in the food. “You really neglect yourself when busy, President Yin. No matter what, you should eat on time.”
Yin Meichang nodded, glancing at the time in surprise. “Is it two o’clock already?”
The secretary thought, yes, it’s already two. She had stood by watching the President make a forty-minute call home, giving detailed instructions on caring for her wife.
“Alright, you can go now.”
Yin Meichang opened her takeout with a smile, eating while looking at her phone. The secretary assumed she was reading some interesting news. To her surprise, Yin Meichang was looking at photos of Shen Wan. She quickly left, thinking that women in love were truly something else. Could a single photo really make a meal so enjoyable? If the President’s wife weren’t ill, they would surely be a very happy couple.
As for Huo Han, he was still in detention for disturbing public order and causing traffic congestion, temporarily unable to disrupt Yin Meichang and Shen Wan’s blissful newlywed life.
Shen Wan felt that the best thing Huo Han had done was to block their wedding convoy. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be in jail and would certainly be ruining her honeymoon.
For several days, Yin Meichang went to the office early, calling multiple times throughout the day to check on Shen Wan’s condition. She seemed worried, always asking about her situation. In the afternoons, Yin Meichang would return home as early as possible, calling ahead if something came up. Shen Wan never expected to live such a shameless life in this small world. It was absolutely delightful.
“Why do female leads in TV dramas act so desperate when captured by passionate villains or second male leads? Torturing themselves with the male lead, living miserably, and dealing with annoying female supporting characters—aren’t they just asking for trouble?”
[188: “Because female leads in TV dramas have integrity, self-respect, face challenges head-on, and refuse to submit to evil forces.”]
Unlike his host, who lacked integrity and shame. Well, she did face challenges, but she always chose the easiest solution, never exerting extra effort or thought. For her, as long as a problem was solved, she didn’t care about the means or who solved it.
So, calling his host shameless and lacking integrity was entirely accurate.
Their newlywed period had already passed the halfway mark.
Huo Han had been released from jail, but with Huo Corporation in chaos, he had no time to seek out Shen Wan. Now that she was married, he couldn’t compete with Yin Meichang or reclaim Shen Wan. He planned to use Huo Corporation against Yin Corporation, believing that if Yin Meichang fell, he could take Shen Wan back. Yin Meichang was well-prepared and unafraid. Moreover, Huo Han now faced opposition not only from her but also from Mrs. Huo and Huo Ting, who had already started learning the ropes at Huo Corporation.
“Huo Ting is working at Huo Corporation now?”
Shen Wan wasn’t surprised when Yin Meichang mentioned this casually. In the novel’s plot, Huo Ting became a formidable woman in the later stages. The fact that she could take over Huo Corporation as an adopted daughter showed her considerable ability. Shen Wan had a vague idea about why Huo Ting had entered Huo Corporation.
“I see Huo Ting has designs on Huo Corporation, so if Huo Han thinks he can use it against me, he’s dreaming. Wan Wan, don’t think Huo Han can snatch you back,” Yin Meichang said confidently. “What’s mine is mine. There’s no giving it back.”
Shen Wan was ecstatic inside. She loved this domineering side of Little Mei, but outwardly she said, “You despicable woman.” She adored her so much.
Looking at Yin Meichang’s smiling face, she suddenly asked, “Little Mei, you seem to have lost quite a bit of weight.”
“Yes, although Huo Han isn’t much of a threat, dealing with him still requires some effort. Of course I’d lose weight.”
Shen Wan frowned. “I’ve been obedient, yet you’re still going after Huo Han. Little Mei, you’re not keeping your word.”
“Wan Wan, that’s not fair. He’s the one who won’t give up. I can’t just stand by and let him attack. As long as you behave, I’ll show some mercy.”
“I understand. I’ll be good,” Shen Wan nodded obediently. “Tomorrow, I’ll ask the housekeeper to make some nice food. I’ll bring you lunch, okay?”
Hearing this, Yin Meichang paused, her lips curving upward. She leaned in to kiss Shen Wan’s cheek, her low voice filled with joy and happiness. “Are you trying to please me?”
“Yes. Since I’m being so nice, go easy on Huo Han, will you?” Shen Wan said earnestly. Little Mei worked hard to support her; how could she just eat takeout for lunch? She couldn’t watch her wife work so tirelessly. She had to show her care.
Yin Meichang’s eyes sparkled with delight. “I’ll be waiting for you tomorrow.”
188 thought: There’s a crude remark I’m not sure whether to say or not.
