Chapter 29: Midnight & Nejire
Days later at U.A. School, Nejire was running through the school. Her smile was cheerful and bright as she ran through the corridors.
"Sora! There's going to be a Heroes v.s. Villains event later!"
Nejire yelled as she entered Class 1-A.
"Huh?"
Nejire was stunned.
"Where is he?"
Looking around, Nejire couldn't find Sora anywhere in the classroom. She looked at her classmates for an answer, but they shook their heads as well.
"Strange…"
Nejire cocked her head in a confused manner before stepping out of the classroom. She walked slowly, checking other classrooms and areas for Sora.
"Where is he?"
She asked herself quietly.
Pressing her index finger on her cheek, Nejire stopped walking. She arrived at the school's Support studio and found it empty as well. Having explored everywhere, Nejire grew confused.
Where could he be?
"Maybe he left early?"
Nejire leaned against the wall, her hands behind her back as she looked up at the ceiling of the corridor.
As she stood there thinking, Nejire heard some laughter and steps coming towards her. Curious, she turned her gaze.
Walking side by side, laughing, she finally found Sora and one of U.A.'s teachers, Midnight.
"Midnight-sensei!"
Nejire smiled, surprised to find Midnight here instead of the staff room.
Midnight turned her gaze from Sora after hearing her name being called. Her gaze was curious and Midnight recognized Nejire in an instant.
"Nejire?"
Nejire heard Sora's voice and looked at him with a smile. The subtle raise of his eyebrows told her that he was mildly surprised to find her here.
"Nejire, how's your quirk training?" Midnight asked after recognizing Nejire.
They had met countless times before and with Nejire's curious tendency, Midnight was boarded with many questions.
"It's going great," Nejire proudly lifted her hand in a peace sign.
"Keep training hard," Midnight smiled. "I'll see you later, Sora. I have some business to attend to."
Midnight stepped over to Sora and gave him a hug, stunning Nejire. She felt uncomfortable seeing Midnight do such intimate actions with Sora.
Afterwards, Midnight left after winking at Nejire.
"Heeeh~"
Nejire let out a long drawn out confused sound before turning her head back to Sora.
…
"Heroes v.s. Villains?"
Sora crossed his arms in amusement. It had been a while since they had last down this exercise. The first time they did this was at the beginning of the school year, since then, it's been studying and training one's quirk.
They've also done hero training and the Hero Examinations was just around the corner. After that, it will be the end of the school year.
Just a single month left.
"Mm, I heard that it's to test how far we have come before heading to the Hero Examinations," Nejire said.
Sora glanced at her, wondering why she wasn't as cheerful as she was a couple of minutes ago. He raised his eyebrows and suddenly realized why.
She must be feeling some jealousy after Midnight had hugged him.
"Ha, I wonder what I will be this time," Sora muttered, wondering if he will be a Hero once more. "What do you think, Nejire?"
"I want to be a Hero this time," answered Nejire after a short moment of thought.
Nodding, Sora chuckled as they began to make their way back to class.
"When will this be?"
"Two days from now, then we have our Hero Examinations next week."
"Next week…"
Sora mumbled as he began to think to himself.
The school year seemed to be ending already. In the blink of an eye.
Sora hadn't done much this year aside from building some devices, training his Quirk, and training in the Great Body Forging Technique.
His progress has been showing down. He needed to do something and find the problem.
"Sora," Nejire called.
Sora looked at Nejire.
"Yeah?"
"Why were you with Ms. Midnight?"
After a long time of thinking, Nejire finally thought of asking Sora what he was doing. As well as why Midnight was with him.
Sora's mouth lifted itself into a smile. "I wanted to ask her what we might be doing next school year."
"Next school year?" Nejire asked.
"Yeah, I was told that we're going to be focusing more on Hero Work and learning the necessary policies a Hero should follow. As well as some other stuff."
"Really? It kind of sounds similar to what we're doing already."
"Mm, it's going to be more detailed next year. We will be choosing new agencies to follow and learn from. Constantly change to different agencies in order to develop our abilities to adapt to situations and what-not."
"Ooh, I see…"
***
Villain.
Sora smiled as he looked at the paper in his hand.
He lifted his head and looked at his partner, a boy with a cat head and furry body. His hero name's Tiger.
"Ready for this, Tiger?" Sora smirked.
"Yeah, Eternal!"
Tiger bobbed his head up and down in agreement and looked at the Hero Team. He lacked courage, but when he turned his head back to Sora, Tiger calmed down.
In the Hero Team, Mirio and Nejire stood there. Looking at Sora and Tiger, Nejire and Mirio prepared themselves for the fight.
However, instead of worrying about fighting both Sora and Tiger, they were more preoccupied about Sora. With good measure too.
No matter the amount of damage Sora takes, he could bounce back up like nothing, his stamina is also limitless. As long as they have known Sora, they had never seen him tired despite all the training they had gone through.
As Sora once told them when he chose his Hero Name.
"Hero name?" Sora laughed in mockery. "I don't need something like that. It's pretty childish."
"Eh?"
Mirio was stunned. Nejire was stunned. And so was Tamaki.
Childish?
Tamaki covered his hero name with an embarrassed look on his face.
"You can't say that," Mirio interjected with a smile. "A hero name is supposed to be your symbol. A symbol or name that holds your ideology or beliefs. What the people place their hopes on and can look up to."
Sora smiled and listened to Mirio give his speech.
As a man who has reincarnated into this world, Sora found it rather awkward to give himself a Hero name. Not to mention that as a martial artist, Sora could care less about names, what mattered is one's abilities and strengths.
"Sora."
Nejire called out to Sora, grabbing his attention. He moved his galaxy eyes and focused them onto Nejire.
"Your hero name — don't you want someone to hear it and feel safe from hearing it? Isn't there someone out in this world that you want to always make them feel safe? Or to make someone's worries disappear?"
Bright and pure royal blue eyes stared at Sora. He felt Nejire's innocence and worry for his Hero Name.
He wanted to shake his head and simply use his own name as his hero name, but then, he remembered his mother. She wanted him to be a hero, but he knows that she is worried.
No matter how much she supports him, Akira has always worried for him. Ever since that terrible accident where he almost died from the gas explosion, or from burning to death from the subsequent fire, Akira had always been worrying. Worried he will suffer.
At that moment, Sora sighed.
A hero name.
What could he tell his mom? What will help appease her worries? What will make her confident in him?
He thought whilst Nejire, Mirio, and Tamaki all looked at him curiously. They watched as Sora's expression turned into one of contemplation.
In unison, they watched as Sora lifted his head with a smirk on his face and his galaxy eyes filled with confidence and pride between his brows.
"Throw anything at me. Try to stop me. Kill me. Wound me. Poison me! No matter what you throw at me, I will still stand on my two feet. I will find you, follow you, chase you to the end of time!
There's no escape from me!
Why?
Because, I AM — ETERNAL!"
…
"Let's win this," Mirio said, confidence lacking in his words.
Nejire nodded, her hands clenched.
"To defeat him, we need to restrain him. Attacking him and trying to wear him down won't work," Nejire said in all seriousness.
"Sora's strength is monstrous, trying to restrain him will be difficult. Maybe not in Almight's level, but monstrous. His speed is the same, we won't be able to effectively stop him."
Mirio placed his hands on his waist, his head down in thought.
"Nejire, why don't you try to keep him in place? You should be able to attack him from afar and try to stop him from moving. I will charge in and take down Tiger before securing the bomb."
"I will do it."
Nejire nodded, determined to restrain Sora — or at least make an attempt.
…
"Everyone, to your places!"
Cementoss, their teacher for their Hero exercises, sent Sora and the rest to their places. The villains inside an empty mall made for training and next to a large bomb prop that they had to protect from the heroes.
Outside the mall is Nejire and Mirio, both looking at the mall. Their nerves were tense and they were ready to face Sora.
…
"Do you want to go forward and attack them, Tiger? Or should we stay here and wait for them?"
Sora stood tall and straight like a spear, hands behind his back as he waited for the hero team to appear. He cared little about making a plan to stop Nejire and Mirio. Sora held great confidence in his own abilities and is able to say without worry that he can take care of both Mirio and Nejire.
Of course, what really mattered is protecting the Bomb — not fighting the heroes and defeating them.
"H-how about staying here?" Tiger asked.
Despite spreading weak, Tiger is part of the Top 5 strongest that does not include Sora. However, in that top 5, the line that divides Nejire, Mirio and Tamaki from the other two in the top five is large.
It showed the dedication and hard work that those three put in to training their quirks and their skills in order to keep up with Sora.
Sora chuckled.
"Staying here it is."
Closing his eyes, Sora focused on his other senses. Sora's expression changed and the air about him began to turn menacing as he envisioned himself as a villain.
He had done it countless times before.
Envisioning himself as something and becoming whatever he was envisioning in spirit and soul. As if he had been born as one.
A cold smirk spread across his lips and Sora opened his eyes, a malicious glare exploding.
Of course, what he envisioned wasn't a villain who killed. He wouldn't want to terrify Nejire or Mirio.
"Ha! Let's watch this city burn!"
…
Standing at the front of the mall, Mirio and Nejire waited for the go from Cementoss. They were mumbling to each other, planning what to do.
Just as they were finishing their talk, Mirio disappeared from sight as he slipped through the ground. However, this time, his clothes didn't slip off as well since specially made for him.
It is his hero suit.
Like Mirio, Nejire was also wearing her Hero suit. A tight bodysuit in similar color to her royal blue eyes. On her feet were knee length white boots. She looks amazing and her curvy body was quite eye catching. It's a good thing that her gentle and innocent aura didn't attract much perverts.
Tiger's uniform is simple compared to Nejire and Mirio's. His upper body wasn't covered by anything and his bottom half had skintight leggings that stopped at his calves. He didn't wear anything for his feet as they were shaped like those of a cat's legs.
Aside from them — who actually appear like heroes — Sora is wearing a classical martial artist uniform.
The uniform is made of a special fiber mix of Sora's with the aid of his MSR device. Combining both metals, cotton, silk, and his blood. The metals made the suit more durable and can even withstand blades and bullets. The cotton makes the suit soft whilst the silk makes the suit look pleasing to the eyes.
Finally, Sora's blood was the special catalyst that gave the clothes the ability to repair itself.
The appearance of Sora's martial artist uniform was rather simple. The top of his uniform is a black knee length shirt, with slits at the sides beginning at his waist, to prevent the top from hindering Sora as he moves and attacks. The sleeves were long, covering his hands slightly.
The design on the top was a bit simple, two chinese dragons, also known as Lóngs, that coiled around his waist, behind his back and over his two shoulders before each one separated going down both his arms.
His pants were stretchy, and a little slim, not baggy like the usual martial pants - their color white.
To end it, his shoes are slip ons, more durable than his clothing. They are pitch black in color and the bottom of the shoes are white.
…
Mirio re-emerged from the ground, a silly smile on his face. His quirk had activated itself and he ended up slipping through the floor.
Just as he was about to say something, Cementoss gave the go and without wasting a single moment, Mirio slipped back through the ground.
"…"
Nejire smiled.
