Absolute Death Game

Chapter 131 Establishing Authority

The convoy lined up, rushing through the dense forest like the wind. On the rugged forest trail, a supply convoy from the Golden Dragon Legion was under attack by seven or eight Demon Clan Hound Masters and several dozen Saber-Toothed Wolves.

This was Xiao Buli's first time seeing a large group of the Demon Clan. These demons all had black, volcanic-rock-like skin, with blood-red, magma-like fissures showing through. Their build was somewhat similar to humans but with frightful, ferocious features and extremely tall stature. Some were bare-chested, while others wore dark, shell-like armor, each wielding heavy, dark weapons.

The ferocious Saber-Toothed Wolves, driven by their masters, launched a life-forsaking attack on the NPC soldiers protecting the convoy. Although there were also quite a few NPC soldiers, amounting to forty to fifty people, they suffered heavy casualties under the attack of the Saber-Toothed Wolves and were on the verge of collapsing.

Without a doubt, if the Pioneer Corps did not intervene, these NPCs would ultimately become food for the Saber-Toothed Wolves.

Zhang Yaoyang quickly assessed the situation and immediately arranged a strategy.

"White Tiger Team, flank from the left. Azure Dragon Group, flank from the right. Don't let them get away!" In fact, without his shouting, the members of the White Tiger Team and the Azure Dragon Group had no intention of merging, and they each formed combat squads and started to encircle the Demon Clan.

This immediately revealed the different approaches to combat between the two groups. The White Tiger Team seemed to have no formation to speak of, charging en masse like a pack of wolves. There was no distinction between tanks and damage dealers, as all melee classes could both take and deal damage. Ranged classes also mostly had pets to assist in combat.

Although their formation was chaotic, there was an implicit coordination among the members. If anyone was in a disadvantageous situation or lost a lot of health, they would immediately turn and retreat without needing a leader's directive, and naturally, someone would fill the gap they left, reminiscent of team play in DOTA.

The fighting style of the Azure Dragon Group, however, was much more formal. Ten people formed a tight formation, using several strong tanks to resist the oncoming attacks head-on, while the backline dealt all-out damage. The healers were only focused on support, with everyone clear on their roles, advancing and retreating in a stable, secure manner.

As usual, Xiao Buli was assigned to a support class. Although his combat ability was not weak, there was no helping it, as healers and support classes were in short supply, and he could only make do with what he had.

Fortunately, his skills were upgraded. Although still not on par with Hua Yueying, they were quite powerful.

Before long, the Saber-Toothed Wolves were almost completely wiped out. Seeing the situation turn dire, the Demon Clan beastmasters let out a howl and, leading the few remaining wolves, turned to flee.

"Warriors, pursue them!" Zhang Yaoyang shouted. Zhao Yunlong and a warrior from the White Tiger Team immediately mounted up, charging forward, each performing a charge that sent the fleeing Demon Clan tumbling. The warriors, capable of mounted combat, completely outran the two-legged monsters in mobility.

The Demon Clan Hound Masters were tightly entangled and utterly unable to escape the battlefield. Once the few sacrificial Saber-Toothed Wolves were killed, everyone immediately pressed forward.

The crowd surged forward with a flurry of slashes and quickly annihilated the remaining members of the Demon Clan.

System prompts immediately flashed on Xiao Buli's screen.

System prompt: Completed the random event 'Rescue Convoy'. Your Prestige in the Golden Dragon Legion has increased by 500 points.

(This must be something everyone gets, thought Xiao Buli to himself.)

At this time, Li Chuang, looking at a corpse, disdainfully said, "Humph, is that all? Just an ordinary elite level."

"Don't underestimate these demons. The ones we fought are just white-named Demon Clan minions. If we come across elite members of the Demon Clan or boss-level leaders, it won't be so easy," Zhang Yaoyang said as he approached the convoy.

The relieved convoy captain came forward with immense gratitude.

"We truly owe you for your assistance. Otherwise, we would have been done for. However, there are still dangers ahead. I wonder if you righteous warriors could escort us for a part of the journey?"

System prompt: A random mission 'Escort Convoy' has been triggered. Do you accept? Yes/No.

Zhang Yaoyang saw the mission prompt and was not surprised. Such missions were all too familiar to him; generally, encountering these random events would trigger follow-up tasks. He turned to look at the others.

The Azure Dragon Group's members hadn't moved yet, waiting for his command, while members of the White Tiger Team seemed to have already accepted the mission, with several of them running straight into the NPC convoy, most likely having already accepted the mission.

A cold smile crossed his lips as he opened the microphone and spoke aloud, "Everyone listen up, there's a problem with this mission. Do not accept the mission."

Upon hearing his words, the members of the White Tiger Team immediately began protesting noisily.

"What, not accept the mission? But I've already accepted it."

"What could be wrong with this mission? Stop talking nonsense."

"Yeah, yeah, just accept the mission quickly."

A slight smile played on Xiao Buli's lips, thinking to himself that Zhang Yaoyang was taking the opportunity to establish his authority.

Having been a guild leader before, he naturally knew the risks of a divided command. For a team leader or guild leader to lead effectively, establishing authority was the first step. Otherwise, no matter how skillful the command or how thorough the understanding of the game, if subordinates don't listen, it's all in vain.

Therefore, before pioneering a new dungeon, Xiao Buli would often take the opportunity to kick out a few individuals who he felt were eyesores or did not follow commands, to establish his authority. It seemed Zhang Yaoyang was intending to do the same.
