Chapter 42
“Is there some kind of magic that changes a person’s personality when you cut them?”
He leaned back slightly at the aggressive question, his eyes widening.
When our eyes met, he nodded as he realized what was going on.
“I wouldn’t normally call it magic, but I guess it’s something along those lines.” “What do you call it then?” “A curse.”Morgana’s eyes narrowed at the unexpected word.
King Vortigern must be insane.
To curse a man for a single word of advice.
I thought he was insane when he purged the Pendragons based on a dream interpretation in the first place.
This shows why people shouldn’t get into shamanism. It’s supposed to be for guidance, only guidance!
Morgana echoed, not looking forward to it.
“Do you know how to… break it or anything?” “Well, the curse only ends when the caster dies.”Oh. King Vortigern’s assassination was too difficult.
‘I don’t even have the intelligence to plan an assassination.’
Gritting her teeth, Morgana gave him a weak nod.
“Thanks for the heads-up.” “Well… there’s another way.” “What’s that…?”Morgana looked up again, his head tilting as if stifling a laugh.
Judging by the twitch of his sharp jawline, he’s obviously having a lot of fun.
Morgana stared at him with wide eyes and asked again.
“…What is it?” “Hmph. No, but it wouldn’t do much good for the Lady to know.” “I’ll listen and decide.” “Power.”It came in so fast that Morgana let out a sigh a beat too late.
“…Oh…”He didn’t even blink.
Morgana tried to calm her pounding heart from the unnecessary poke.
Thankfully, he continued as if he knew nothing.
“The power of the Fay was healing. It could also break curses, but unfortunately, the power was lost in this generation.” “I see.” “It’s a shame, and that’s why Duke Fay’s life is in danger.”Morgana’s ears perked up unnecessarily at the news of Duke Fay, whose will to survive was stronger than most.
She hadn’t heard from him since they’d left, so her curiosity was piqued.
“Is he in danger?” “Well, that someone is trying to kill him.” “Why?” “Because they’ve lost a man of the house, jeopardizing their power, and he’s the primary reason they didn’t capture it.”Slowly, Kellive dropped the subject of the Duke of Fay and watched her reaction.
Two things she didn’t like about Avalon.
Knowing and being known.
Now that the Fay family has seen through it, he should be punished for lying about the herbs.
No matter how many times he tries, the Duke of Fay won’t be able to take Morgana. He intends to.
And those who know.
‘I’ll do it myself.’
If it’s the bloodline. If Morgana comes to Avalon, there were soon be a blood purge.
Those who would sell information in exchange for a marriage to Britain, those who wish to be absorbed by Britain.
All of them, every last one of them.
Only those who would truly protect Avalon would remain.
I left Raves lying on the ground coughing up blood and used the gem to come to Britain today because my investigation has been completed.
The letter of recommendation was from Lord Caradoc.
Even when the Guild was in a hurry to find a recommendation for a maid, someone gave it to them as if it were a gift.
He was more than happy to provide it. Already, she seemed to have gotten the hint.
“Oh, come to think of it, didn’t you say you wanted to talk to me about something?”When she looked up, finally interested, Kellive opened his mouth to answer.
“No, I didn’t. Not anymore.”The herbs were that urgent, because Cadric’s message came back very quickly.
For some reason, Arthur seemed a little nervous.
His tightly clenched jaw proved it.
As soon as Cadric entered the tavern’s second floor, papers spilled from his arms.
He’d compiled a list of servants, including information on the maids and butlers.
He fumbled through the pile and pulled out a sheaf of papers, flipped through them, and said urgently.
“Here you see three letters of introduction from me, and five from my maids and butlers.”The lists were meticulously dated, listing the servants who had come and gone from the Count of Equator.
The number matched the number of letters of introduction Cadric had mentioned.
‘Doesn’t this mean there are no letters of introduction from Lord Caradoc?’
Apparently sensing her question, Cadric quickly pulled out another sheaf of papers.
It was the maid’s cleaning log.
“You see here, my father used the seal about two weeks ago. It says he cleaned up the ink and nibs.”Shuffling through the papers again, he showed me a list of correspondence sent that day.
“There’s no correspondence from my father before or after that date, and that’s the day he left at dawn.”Morgana’s jaw dropped at the meticulousness of the record.
He’d be lying if he said he trusted the younger Cadric completely just because Lord Caradoc had lost his mind.
Especially since he looked so young.
But the record was more thorough than she’d expected, and Morgana couldn’t help but praise it in awe.
“Wow, that’s amazing.” “It’s something I came up with my vassals after my father went off the rails and I realized I had to protect the family name somehow.”He sounded desperate.
His eyes were red with anticipation and worry.
“I don’t have proof that my father wrote a clear letter of introduction, but roughly speaking, the timing would be this date if he sent it. Can’t I get herbs with this?” “No, I wouldn’t. I’ll give it to you.”Morgana lifted the vial of herbs from her arms.
His face brightened, and when he reached for it, she quickly pulled her arm away.
“But I need to see him while he’s sleeping.” “What? Why, that’s not what you promised!” “I’ll give you the herbs, but they might not work if it’s not me, they’re a little tricky to handle.” “Oh…”His shoulders sagged, as if he hadn’t thought of that.
“My father’s sleeping hours aren’t consistent, so…”Morgana shook the vial of herbs in her hand.
The grassroots inside clicked, making a light noise.
When Cadric’s gaze snapped back to Morgana. She smiled and asked.
“I’ll be staying at the Count’s manor as a guest for a day, is that acceptable?”At that, Cadric nodded enthusiastically.
“Yes, of course!”The Count of Equator had been in power for so long that his house was quite spacious and had many servants.
The state of the house was not good internally, so Cadric and some of his cousins stayed at the manor to help out.
Invited to dinner, Morgana felt like she was sitting on a thorny seat.
At the head table was Lord Caradoc. To one side, Cadric and his cousin, Nordic.
Normally, the guests would have been seated facing Cadric, but here, Morgana and Arthur were commoners.
Commoners with no family name.
As guests of honor, there was nothing inferior about seating them at the head of the table, as long as the lord of the house allowed it.
But Nordic’s tongue was sharp at his cousin.
“Since Uncle is dining here with a commoner, will it go down his throat?” “I see.”Caradoc could only sympathize.
Seeing this, Cadric muttered in a low, angry whisper.
“Watch your language, brother. She’s my guest.” “Ha… Cadric. Why do you always make my uncle sick when he’s in good health, if you ask me…”Cadric laughed bitterly, as if embarrassed by this indiscretion, and turned to Caradoc, pleading.
“Father, she is a rare apothecary. Even if she has no family name, she’s still a guest, and this is not the way to treat her.” “Uncle, don’t listen to him. If word gets out that you’ve seated a commoner at the head table, other families will surely take umbrage.”Caradoc listened silently as he sliced his steak with his knife and replied bluntly.
“The family’s honor must not be tarnished.”Morgana, watching the scene from a distance, glanced at her outfit and turned to Arthur.
“You don’t like it? I haven’t worn a dress this tight in a long time.” “You look great.”Arthur replied, and he was also wearing his usual gaudy colors.
He was going to be the Count’s guest, and he couldn’t dress casually.
As soon as he and Cadric parted ways, he went straight to the salon to get a new haircut.
But Nordic was not pleased.
“Speaking of herbs, can you heal faster than a priest?”
