Chapter 32
Whenever I saw that, I would grab Arthur’s arm and pull him away.
His arm would flinch for a moment.
As they walked down the bustling street, a slightly familiar figure saw Arthur and her and recognized her.
“Well, well, Arthur, my lady, it’s just in time.”It was one of Raon’s mercenaries.
The man smiled broadly and patted Arthur on the shoulder in greeting.
“Mr. Raon was looking for you, if not for me.” “What.”To his blunt retort, the man spotted Morgana standing next to him and clapped his hands.
“Congratulations, Arthur. We finally have an applicant for a maid.”Morgana listened, her eyes narrowed, and she asked.
“Why are you telling Arthur if I’m hiring the maid?” “Oh, didn’t you know? He comes here in the morning and tells Mr. Raon to find you a decent maid. Mr. Raon’s been so pissed off that he’s been begging us to scrub him up, he’s almost balding on the top of his head.” “Really?”Morgana turned at the unheard-of comment.
But Arthur stiffly turned away from her and looked at the man.
“Have you identified her?” “Dude, don’t even talk. It’s a big deal.”The man shook his head, but didn’t say anything.
It wasn’t until they reached the mercenary group that Morgana realized his reaction.
“Levira.”Slightly raised eyebrows, a mechanical, high-pitched voice.
The maid applicant, a woman with navy-blue hair that seemed to reflect her personality in a blunt, unemotional way, greeted Raon as if measured with a ruler.
Raon pointed to her with both hands as if he was very proud of her.
“Miss, someone who can fulfill all your requirements has finally arrived!”Overwhelmed with emotion, Raon was close to tears if he had a handkerchief.
Outwardly, she was stoic.
Her bangs were slicked back behind her ears in a straight seven-to-three, and she had the audacity to not bat an eye at Raon’s antics in front of her.
Morgana asked nervously.
“Levira, what are your specialties?”Levira answered quickly, without missing a beat.
“Meals, meat, bakery, cooking, noodles, all of it, if you like, both traditional British and modern fusion.” “Oh, so cooking is your specialty?” “Cleaning and decorating, as well as simple foreign language translation and filing and documentation if you’d like.” “Can you read?” “Yes, of course.”Few of the maids were literate.
She was literally a multitasker.
Arthur, who had been listening in the background, spoke up.
“Do you have something to prove?”Raon’s eyes widened as soon as he asked the question.
“I checked her application, and she has a history of working for Count Equator. There’s even a letter of introduction!”He spoke faster than before, as if worried that she might dismiss it.
Levira rummaged around in her basket for something she’d brought with her.
“Count Equator has been very kind to me, but as you know, the bigger the manor, the more servants. It’s hard to socialize, and the rules are strict.” “Ah, that’s true. I, too, have a hard time with guests and mercenaries sometimes making strange requests…”Raon empathized out of habit, and when Arthur and Morgana glared at him, he coughed in disbelief.
“No, it’s always the relationships that are the hardest, not you and Arthur.”Levira pulled out a simple plate of cookies and sandwiches.
“These were all made by me this morning. I knitted the handkerchiefs I wrapped them in, by the way.”The handkerchiefs were soft and dense, and the floral embroidery on the front of them was dazzling.
I even took a bite of the sandwich, which was so perfect that Gordon Ramsay had to fold it up before he could spew his judgment.
“Pass, pass, pass!”There was nothing more to see.
The family of the Count of Equator was one of the most prestigious in Britain, known for producing generations of royal knights.
They gave her a letter of introduction, and if her food and skills were this good, there was no reason to wait.
‘If you’ve worked for a noble family long enough, you’ll know a lot of things, and you’ll be able to keep up with the latest trends.’
Three weeks after hiring Arthur, the day came. Morgana finally had a maid.
Levira was perfect.
As soon as she arrived at the mansion, she began to furnish the guest room, which Morgana hadn’t been able to do on her own.
“The beds are more efficient than expensive, and since you don’t seem to use them much, I only filled five rooms first.” “Oh… and the Great Hall?” “The floor is cracked, and we will be laying a mix of marble and mixed stone. Construction will start tomorrow.”Since her arrival, life has begun to change.
Morgana’s clothes have been custom-made at a salon to fill in the gaps, and her meals have included lunch, dinner, dessert, and, when the time comes, tea.
The mansion, which had been barely stocked with the essentials, began to smell of human habitation.
Morgana’s mouth dropped open as she watched the trees being planted in the garden.
‘Uh, that’s huge…!’
But Levira stood still, her face expressionless, watching from the sidelines.
“The mansion is just the cozy atmosphere I was hoping for!” “…Yeah.” “…”It’s just that Levira was also a taciturn person, and whenever she and Arthur were alone, they never spoke to each other.
However, Levira was good at answering questions and answering questions like a knife.
The more she talked to him, the less Arthur talked to her.
He was always taciturn, but it got worse.
“Arthur, look at this, this cookie is the real deal!”As Morgana cut the cookie in half and let out an exclamation, his blue gaze locked on her face for the briefest of moments.
He didn’t answer, just stood there, stiff as a board.
‘What. Are you pouting because I didn’t give it to you?’
Of course not. Some people share a side of beans, but a big cookie all to oneself might be a bit much.
Morgana held out the other half.
“Do you want some?” “No, thanks.” “No, I want to give it to you, so we can share.”Morgana forced it into his mouth and he gobbled it down.
Even so, his expression was strangely subdued.
Morgana slowly spoke up.
“You know, Arthur, sometimes I think you’re too reticent. If you want to say something, just say it.”I wiped my mouth and wondered if he still didn’t like me.
I’d thought I’d built up quite a bit of trust during my stay at the mansion. Was it just my imagination?
It was actually quite a distance from his mansion, and I didn’t want to bother going back!
She asked gravely.
“Did… did I do something wrong?” “No, it’s just…”Arthur paused for a moment, then spoke quickly.
“I was wondering, what happens when the term is over?”At his question, Morgana remembered the dagger she’d won the auction for.
What had it been called? Carnwennan?
‘I promised to give him that, remember?’
A reminder not to forget.
It was something he’d wanted so badly, it wasn’t like she didn’t understand.
She straightened her shoulders and patted her hand across her chest in reassurance.
“I’ll give you the dagger, don’t worry, I’ll give it to you when the time is right.” “The dagger…” “I’ve hidden it well, in case anyone steals it! I’ll give it to Arthur, no matter what.”Morgana didn’t need it anyway.
The longer the day went on, the more she’d get caught.
He was supposed to leave on the first beat of the clap, and now that Morgana was eagerly clapping along, it was time to part ways with Arthur.
But for some reason, Arthur remained silent.
Arthur was gone from 6 a.m. to 12 noon.
Morgana was a slow starter anyway, and since Levira had moved in, she didn’t mind having someone to take care of her in the morning.
Before lunch, Levira served scones and light tea.
“Miss Morgana. Tea and scones.” “Wow, how does Levira change the menu every day?” “So that I can serve you perfectly.”She took the compliment deftly, without a trace of smugness or pleasure.
Morgana took a bite of the freshly baked scone.
But unlike usual, it tasted a little sour.
She wondered if it had gone stale, and if it would taste like this if she squeezed lemon juice on it.
‘Oh no. Levira wouldn’t do that.’
Morgana, who had been served nothing but perfect food the past few days, blamed her taste buds.
I must have a strange taste because I ate it first thing in the morning.
Then she sipped her tea.
“Did I have stomach upset when I slept, and why does my mouth taste sour?” “Is that so?”Levira’s voice rang a little louder.
There was a strange conviction in her unusually hard voice.
Ah, I mean.
“It’s a rather substantial amount to take a person of power, so I had no choice.”My vision turned blurry.
