A Village Appeared on My Desktop

Chapter 224

Chapter 224 – The End (4)

‘It’s too late.’

Perfect concealment that hides even the slightest presence. The moment I failed to notice it, the opportunity had already slipped into the enemy’s hands.

Shura tried to evade, but with her back already turned, it was impossible.

“Ugh?!”

In that situation, Rasen’s body moved before his head did. He activated magic to switch their positions.

Startled, Shura dashed back, and in her place, Rasen’s body lunged forward into the enemy’s spear.

“…!”

With her life saved, Shura widened her eyes. In that moment where time seemed to slow, Rasen’s defense barrier shattered in an instant against the enemy’s mana-infused attack, and blood splattered everywhere.

Fortunately, during the position change, the enemy’s attack veered off course. Had Shura been hit, her body would have been split in two; instead, Rasen barely managed to avoid death, sacrificing only an arm in the process.

“H-hurry and stop him!”

Of course, that alone was a huge problem. The panicking warriors rushed to block the enemy, lifting the fallen Rasen.

“T-this guy is too strong…”

“Evacuate!”

However, the enemy’s power was overwhelming. Swinging the massive axe in both hands like a windmill, a violent shockwave erupted, scattering the blood of the rushing Arin Tribe warriors who fell in a single blow.

There was a clear disparity. The special armors and skills they wore were crushed against the sheer might of an enemy of this level.

‘Could it be an Assassin?!’

Shura, holding the unconscious Rasen, trembled as she gazed at the formidable foe. The creature that had unfolded its wings and soared into the sky looked like a demon crawling up from hell. This was the first time Shura, who had always held pride, felt such emotions when confronting Bugs.

The intimidation from facing the strongest enemy created by the Bugs was palpable even now.

‘No, it’s different from an Assassin.’

Yet, faltering, she shook her head. It was a natural thought to have considering the strength, but those who had seen it would know.

The enemy before them was distinctly different from an Assassin. They couldn’t definitively tell what it was, but it bore a resemblance to hybrids created by infecting locals rather than being purely Bugs.

“Ah…”

As the enemy aimed its axe at her, having already eliminated all her companions, she unconsciously sighed. The overwhelming display of strength brought forth a fear of death that paralyzed her body.

“Great Warrior!”

“We must take that creature down. So stay focused!”

Just as the attack aimed at her was about to tear through her body, someone sprang from the underground, wielding a spear glowing with blue light, deflecting the strike.

Shura’s eyes widened as she saw Rakum. His face was stiff as he looked at his younger sister lying in a pool of blood.

‘This is a place where we cannot ask for help from Him. We must find a way to overcome this with the blessings He has given us.’

Rakum clenched his teeth as he eyed the mana shield blocking the sky and them behind the enemy.

Instinctively, he realized that Junyoung would not be able to assist them. In reality, Junyoung’s base-breaking skills could not shatter that barrier; he could only watch.

“We can do this. I believe in us.”

The fortunate thing was that he was not alone. Following behind, Eve popped up from the underground with a gun in hand.

The other warriors joined as well. Even though the enemy began to gather forces that were hatching from their cocoons, this specific area was currently cut off from the outside.

The only access route was occupied by the residents, so it was clear that the advantage lay with them.

“This is our mission. Treat it as our last, and we will surely exterminate them.”

With Rakum’s determined command, the battle within the grand structures of the Empire’s palace began.

In an instant, a storm of magic and gunfire erupted, the sound of explosions ringing from all sides.

‘I will definitely kill that one.’

Amidst it all, Rakum charged at the enemy that harmed Rasen. The force behind the enemy’s retaliating axe was so tremendous that it knocked him back despite his resistance.

“The Empire’s strongman, Ralulus. He must have grown stronger by now.”

Watching this scene anxiously from the other side of the screen, Junyoung couldn’t even sit still, feeling more tense than any previous moment he had experienced.

He knew who the enemy currently battling Rakum was. Ralulus, the Empire’s strongman who fought against Riena, had ultimately been transformed into a hybrid after being infected by Bugs.

Though he had lost to Riena, he was certainly one of the mightiest figures on the continent. There was no doubt he hadn’t weakened after being modified by the Bugs.

The townsfolk would have to deal with such a monster without Riena.

‘Riena will need time to arrive. Was it truly my mistake? I should have made more thorough preparations.’

Junyoung had naturally called upon Riena, but even as she spread her wings and flew, it still took time to arrive.

Now the vanguard had to hold out for that duration.

“Ugh, this is…”

“—!”

The problem was that the enemy’s power had already exceeded all standards. Rakum, who had leapt onto the roof, found himself stumbling and falling to the ground after only exchanging a few blows against the enemy’s fierce strength.

As Ralulus descended with his axe raised high, the resulting shockwave barreled toward Rakum’s body.

“Stay focused! If that thing breaks free, every front will collapse. We’re right in the midst of enemy territory. If we falter, we’ll be annihilated!”

Eve’s gunfire countered this explosion. She activated her skills to fire the mana-enhanced bullets in rapid succession, scattering the enemy’s attack.

She hurriedly helped Rakum back to his feet. However, her face was already pale.

“Has Riena always been fighting against such formidable foes?”

“She must be on her way. But…”

Rakum clenched his teeth at Eve’s words that felt utterly absurd. He needed to avenge his sister, yet he felt utterly powerless. Not only could he not pursue revenge, but enduring this was becoming impossible.

At this rate, Ralulus alone could wipe out the entire army.

“No. We must hold on no matter what.”

Rakum lifted his spear once more. He had not been fighting all this time to crumble like this. Though he admired and acknowledged Riena’s strength, that did not mean he would leave everything to her.

‘Even if this place is my last stand.’

If they couldn’t win here, the Bugs would overrun the entire world, and everyone living on this land would be slaughtered and turned into their prey.

Thinking this way, it would indeed be more absurd to not fight out of fear.

“Shura!”

And it was not just Rakum who had steeled his resolve. While he charged at the enemy to draw attention, Shura swiftly moved behind the foe and struck with her tightly gripped dagger.

Her eyes, burning with determination, shone even more fiercely than Rakum’s.

‘If I can just create an opening, winning is not impossible.’

In a one-on-one, they were lacking, that was for sure. Rakum never aimed for such a situation in the first place.

Just a year ago, he was merely an average warrior, and it was thanks to the skills he obtained after entering the game that he became this strong.

As a young warrior, Rakum was inherently less experienced than the Bugs or Ralulus. It was only natural for him to falter. The enemy was no longer even in a state that could be called human, having garnered more power.

‘If we can catch them in a cooperative attack, or at least buy some time, that would suffice.’

Even so, Rakum, Shura, and Eve were among the strongest aside from Riena. They should be able to buy time through a coordinated effort.

In the meantime, the Arin Tribe warriors continued to pour from the underground, spreading throughout the palace to fight the Bugs while gradually expanding the battlefield in search of the entities they were protecting.

*

‘I can feel His urgency.’

How urgent must it be if Riena had to repeat right-clicking so much that it caught her attention?

After being hastily called out by Junyoung from the game, Riena spread her wings and soared through the sky, headed straight for the palace.

“Is the end really approaching?”

Looking down at the scorched earth of villages and cities below, she instinctively recognized that she had another chance to end this grim life-and-death struggle once more.

While she had first encountered this opportunity when she eliminated the enemy’s stronghold and neural body formed in a colony, the infighting had led to significant losses once again.

But now, surely everyone who acted foolishly would come to realize that the Bugs, who were incomprehensibly monstrous, could demolish a great empire with a long history and powerful national strength in an instant if they wished.

Even if she managed to clear out all the enemies now, she could never afford to relax. The Bugs would always be waiting for another chance to appear.

‘I won’t remain idle any longer.’

Above all, Riena was determined to personally prevent such events from happening again in the future.

She had already harbored plans to spread this awareness across the continent without regard for forces or races, establishing a strict order to control the Bugs.

If that order operated properly under the management of the God she served, the Bugs would not be able to grow effectively and would be exterminated immediately. She firmly believed that this was true justice.

“Meaningless interference.”

However, all these plans could only be realized if she first escaped from the crisis looming before her.

The Bugs were also aware of her approach. They attempted to impede her by sending multiple variants.

Pausing for a moment, Riena drew her sword as she saw dozens of enemies flying toward her.

They surrounded her in an instant, but Riena didn’t change her expression in the slightest.

Even Junyoung, witnessing this, did not come to help her. He knew that she would win, after all.

“—!”

As the enemies charged straight at her, she swung her wings and sword, unleashing a brilliant golden divine light that cut and incinerated them effortlessly.

“Surely that one is the mastermind. The Assassin who escaped in the last moment.”

Riena, gripping the last surviving enemy’s face, smashed the enemy’s sword aimed at her neck with her fist before tightening her grip.

The immense strength of her grip cracked the carapace of the captured face, and the Bug began to bleed profusely as its eyes started to dim.

Riena pierced through the gaze of the one watching from beyond that fading light.

“…”

Indeed, her words held true. Deep within the palace, where an intense battle rapidly spread, the one who had quietly remained there began to rise slowly, seen through the eyes of his kin—Ralulus.
