A Village Appeared on My Desktop

Chapter 14

Chapter 14 – The Beginning of Development (4)

I already knew that traits were important. While some, like Riena, already had traits, the traits gained by the residents in the game undoubtedly possessed powers close to miracles based on their reactions.

Therefore, if those with such traits were to increase, they would become stronger and safer. Although not a high-tier trait, the shaman trait acquired by killing one of the game’s boss mobs, the cave goblin shaman, hinted at what kind of power it might possess just from its name and the acquisition process.

Of course, there’s a possibility that it wouldn’t align perfectly like in the game. Balun might not have the talent to master this trait.

But still, I had to give it a shot.

“–, —!”

I used the item I had pulled out on the flustered Balun. Just like when using a potion, I simply threw it, and it activated on its own.

[Chief Balun]

[Trait: Leadership/Shaman]

[Placement: Game 1]

‘Did it work?!’

The change was immediate. After using the item, I right-clicked his body, and there was a change in his status window.

Originally, it only had Leadership, but Shaman was now added. Unlike the yellow highlighted traits of Miner and Farmer, this one was white like Riena’s martial arts or Balun’s existing Leadership.

Of course, that was all I could glean. I still had no idea what power he had gained, how to use it, or if he could use that power outside the game.

“—…!”

He seemed to feel something. Muttering as if he sensed an unfamiliar power in his body, he looked down at it while trembling.

Seeing Riena, who had fought the goblin shaman equally, look surprised confirmed that a change had indeed occurred. The change can be seen as positive for now.

‘Still, it feels somewhat lacking.’

I reflected on the residents who had returned to the village. Although they were slowly gaining new powers, I felt something was missing.

Watching Riena fight today solidified that concern.

To put it bluntly, the goblin shaman in the game isn’t a very strong enemy. It could be taken down in just 30 minutes if one really put their mind to it. However, with the Master Program’s involvement, it became twisted, and the shaman, through contact with the residents, turned into a monster in reality, certainly stronger than its in-game counterpart.

We would face countless monsters and bosses remaining in that game moving forward, and honestly, with the powers the residents currently had, it seemed impossible.

[3rd Person Action RPG Game Recommendation]

[Cost: 2500P]

Another means to resolve the ongoing resource accumulation and achievement point acquisition. It is to activate a new program using the achievement points we have accumulated thus far.

The Master Program, which recommended me a sandbox game I could have never imagined for the residents struggling with resource shortages, was now suggesting a 3rd person action RPG game that I had previously enjoyed for a brief time.

What would I gain from that game, where I could follow the storyline, hunt monsters, and raise levels and equipment?

“I should probably get some rest.”

After looking at the time, I stood up from my chair. After all, all the residents, including Riena, needed rest too. Since there was nothing I could do, I might as well take this chance to relax.

*

“Father, it’s getting late. I know you’re happy, but…”

“I know I won’t be able to sleep anyway. My heart is racing too much!”

That night. Riena, having left the house, sighed as she saw Balun standing under the bright moonlight. Since returning, he was brimming with excitement.

The gift he received just before their return. It was none other than the miracle of mana.

They don’t exactly know what he gave them. Balun only knew that a blessing of mana had taken root in his body due to the item he used.

Handling this power would require more experience, but for now, Balun was just happy about this. He had never heard of anyone being granted a blessing of mana without any side effects.

“I can feel that the mana in Father’s body is already flowing in a certain way. Even if he learns from me, there’s no guarantee he can unleash the full power.”

“There must be more to it. I don’t think he would give me this power without any thought.”

Riena, who could be considered a kind of mentor, could only share what she learned about swordsmanship from her teacher. However, as fitting for the name of a trait, the sword was not the answer.

Knowing this, Balun wasn’t overly worried. He firmly believed that the one who gave this power would teach him how to use it. More than anything, even without handling any special power, having a sturdy physique like a mana awoken individual was a boon.

“Thinking like this makes it better to sleep. I need to prepare thoroughly since I don’t know what will happen tomorrow.”

Having reached that conclusion, Balun decided to go home and sleep. After showing such a miracle today, he needed to be in top condition to enter the game tomorrow.

“Okay, everyone get ready. We need to work to ensure the village is safe.”

And the next morning. Balun, unable to hide his excitement, gathered the personnel to cross the portal and headed towards it. The others also realized that Balun had awakened his mana and held onto a faint hope.

“Uh?”

But in that moment, Riena, who was about to cross the portal, felt something blocking her. Confused, she pushed against the black crack with her hand, only for the portal to push her back with similar force, as if refusing her entry.

[Chief’s Daughter Riena]

[Trait: Martial Arts]

[Placement: Game 2]

“I…I can’t go through! Why?!”

“What’s going on?!”

They couldn’t see their own status windows and, in confusion, were unaware of the change in Riena’s status window.

Her placement had already changed. Since her placement had changed, it was only natural that she couldn’t enter the existing game.

‘This difficulty is too hellish for me to even bother with.’

Knowing they were bewildered, he hurriedly executed a game. It wasn’t the game he had been enjoying for several days.

Just before, having just awakened, he had activated it by exchanging all his achievement points.

A 3rd person action RPG game titled Dark Blood. Unlike the family-friendly sandbox game he was used to, the genre and atmosphere of this game were entirely different.

[Current Number of Residents Allowed Entry: 0/1]

‘If it’s just 1, there’s nothing I can do.’

Only one resident could enter this game.

Therefore, he chose Riena. He determined that she was the most suitable person to understand what kind of game it was and what rewards the Master Program had recommended.

“Riena!”

Balun shouted as he saw Riena disappear right before his eyes. But no matter how much he tried to grab her hand, she vanished somewhere as if evaporated and never reappeared.

“Chief!”

“Calm down. I’m sure he took her.”

Balun had already experienced this kind of thing before. When the first game opened, he and three others instantly vanished before the residents’ eyes and entered the game.

From that memory, Balun sensed that Riena had entered the game just like last time. Thanks to this, he was able to quickly regain his composure.

This was already the second time, and he knew that it wasn’t someone hostile to them.

“Riena will be fine, so for now, let’s focus on our tasks.”

“Are you really sure about that?”

“If it’s a trial Riena can’t overcome, we’re all doomed anyway.”

Reassuring the other worried residents, Balun reluctantly turned and crossed the portal. For now, doing what they could was the best option.

“Where… where is this?”

Riena, who landed once again in a strange world, thought the same.

This time, without her father or any companions, she was alone, but having gained some experience, she made an effort to keep her composure and scanned her surroundings.

‘Where on earth is this?’

Riena drew her sword and guarded her surroundings. Before her lay a world completely different from the angular block world, shrouded under a thick ominous cloud.

The game boasting high-quality graphics had, through the Master Program’s involvement, become a world indistinguishable from reality.

Where she landed was right in the midst of a strange forest road, where she could see a gloomy castle far away. Her hand holding the sword trembled slightly for no reason.

“!”

And in that moment, she encountered someone. A mysterious knight fully clad in armor. Dressed in a torn red cape and with a masked face, the knight merely stood still, gazing at her.

“Kn-Knight!”

Instinctively, she raised her guard. The greatest enemies of their clan, which was divided into various tribes, were often the warriors of rival tribes, but the knights of other kingdoms were also enemies at times.

Thus, she had grown up hearing tales of the infamous knights with both fear and wariness.

‘Why am I reacting this way? I thought I would be used to it.’

Noticing her expression, the knight, who had been sitting and standing, clicked his tongue while moving the mouse.

‘W-Wait a second.’

Fortunately, she didn’t fail to recognize him completely. Recognizing the actions he frequently performed as her character in the first game, she instinctively sensed that the two characters, despite their graphical differences, were indeed the same being.

“What on earth is this place?”

Summoning her courage, she asked him. Of course, he didn’t understand her words and merely smiled bitterly while pointing at the distant castle.

The road to that castle would be the tutorial, and what occurs in that castle would be the first act of the game.

‘I have no choice.’

Reluctantly, she seemed destined to follow aimlessly, but Riena bit her lip. It was he who had shown miracles to her father and tribe members.

Having believed that, and acting on it, she was sure she would receive rewards in kind through their exchanges.

“Graaah… Aaaah!”

“Monsters!”

Barely after they started their journey, the monsters appeared. The weakest monsters in the game, the corpse soldiers.

The undead soldiers crawling up from the ground rushed at them while wielding their old, ragged weapons.

‘I can’t wake up while dying. I need to focus too.’

Just like Riena fighting with all her might, the one controlling the character with mouse and keyboard was also in a state of intense concentration.

Unlike the first game, this one wasn’t forgiving about a player’s death.
