Chapter 33

Yan Tingmo didn’t really want to argue with Booming Warrior. Love Life was still chatting passionately in the comments section, so he took a quick glance before exiting the conversation.
As soon as he updated, his private messages surged to 99+, and among the many messages, he quickly spotted Love Life.
There was nothing special about the message content, but Love Life’s profile picture stood out—it was so different from the usual anime character avatars.
He clicked into the chat with him, who greeted him with their usual enthusiasm.
Love Life: [What have you been up to lately?]
This was sent a month ago.
Love Life: [Why are you ignoring me? Did I do something wrong?]
Love Life: [Saltwater big shot, I want to commission some work, please reply.]
Seems like Love Life was starting to act a bit coy.
Yan Tingmo kept scrolling.
Love Life: [Fine, fine, if you’re not going to reply, then I won’t bother.]
Love Life: [I forgot to tell you, I kissed the person I like today…]
Love Life: [He’s so cute, you know how I feel, right?]
Yan Tingmo frowned and involuntarily smirked. His finger kept scrolling.
Love Life: [I wasn’t trying to show off, but I’m so excited! Tonight, when I hugged him, he didn’t push me away!]
Yan Tingmo raised an eyebrow. This situation seemed oddly familiar.
Love Life continued blabbering on.
Love Life: [Do you think he likes me too?]
Love Life: [He must like me. If he didn’t, he would’ve pushed me away. Only if you like someone would you want to have physical contact with them!]
The conversation stopped abruptly, as Love Life seemingly had to leave in the middle of their message.
The most recent message was from five minutes ago.
Yan Tingmo narrowed his eyes—it was Love Life comforting him.
Love Life: [You’re back at last, I’ve been waiting for you for so long.]
Love Life: [Don’t look at the comment section. There are some rats down there, unworthy of your attention. I’ll help you handle it.]
Love Life: [I’ve taken care of it. Next time you see comments like that, just report them.]
Yan Tingmo felt a bit touched. He was really nice. Though sometimes a little offbeat, at least they were cheerful.
It would be rude not to thank them for their help, right?
After some thought, he replied politely: [Thank you, you’re really a good person.]
Love Life replied immediately: […Is that all?]
Yan Tingmo: [?? What else should I say?]
Love Life: [I thought you’d at least treat me to a meal or something.]
Yan Tingmo fell silent and responded, a little coldly: [We… don’t seem that familiar, do we?]
Love Life, thick-skinned: [Well, if we meet, then we’d know each other better, right?]
Yan Tingmo: [That’s not necessary.]
Love Life: [I’m just teasing you, why are you so naive?]
Yan Tingmo didn’t respond but stared absentmindedly at the chat history with Love Life.
Zhou Wen finished his homework, stretched, and then asked, “I’m a little hungry. Anyone want to go out and eat something?”
Zhang Miao and He Shiyang were too focused on their game to respond: “We’re not eating, you go ahead.”
Zhou Wen sighed: “Alright then.”
He turned to leave, but halfway to the door, he turned back and stood at Yan Tingmo’s bed, asking tentatively, “Mo, are you asleep? Want to come down and eat something?”
Yan Tingmo hadn’t been asleep, and with his mind still occupied by doubts, he suddenly heard Zhou Wen’s voice. In a flash, he threw off his blanket and stared at him intently.
Zhou Wen didn’t understand what was happening, smiled and looked up: “You’re not asleep?”
Yan Tingmo didn’t answer his question: “What were you doing just now?”
Zhou Wen: “Doing my homework.”
“Were you on your phone?”
“No.” Zhou Wen denied it, “I didn’t have time for that.”
Yan Tingmo wasn’t entirely convinced. The way Love Life spoke earlier, and even the daily updates they shared, reminded him too much of him.
It just so happened that Zhou Wen had someone he liked, and he had even gone on a date with a senior last time.
Doubts began to creep into Yan Tingmo’s mind, and now, the more he looked at him, the more off things seemed.
“What are you thinking about?” Zhou Wen asked, “Are you coming or not?”
After thinking for a moment, Yan Tingmo nodded and got out of bed: “I’ll go.”
On the way to find food, he occasionally tried to probe Zhou Wen: “Do you have any hobbies?”
Zhou Wen looked at him, speechless: “Does playing games count?”
Yan Tingmo replied: “Sure. Anything else?”
Zhou Wen thought for a moment and said: “Reading manga.”
“Oh.” Yan Tingmo thought to himself, That explains it.
He was into manga, which is why he came to ask for a commission.
Suddenly, Yan Tingmo felt something was off about the commission request.
He asked: “You’re straight, right?”
Zhou Wen: “…”
“Done playing, huh?”
“I am.” Zhou Wen replied flatly, “I thought I made it pretty obvious.”
Yan Tingmo was momentarily stunned. Zhou Wen had just gone on a date with a senior, and here he was, wondering if he was straight.
He mentally scolded himself, then gave a nervous laugh: “I was just asking.”
Since Zhou Wen was straight, Love Life probably wasn’t him.
With Zhou Wen ruled out, Yan Tingmo found himself in a bit of a dilemma.
In truth, he wasn’t particularly concerned about the identity of the person commissioning him. It was more the familiarity in the way they spoke that made him imagine all sorts of possibilities.
“What’s with you tonight?” Zhou Wen suddenly turned to look at him. “You’re acting all weird. Did something happen?”
“Huh?” Yan Tingmo was confused for a moment. “No, nothing.”
Zhou Wen raised an eyebrow. “Really nothing?”
“Nothing at all,” Yan Tingmo quickly denied.
“Okay then,” Zhou Wen didn’t push further.
Outside the school, there were many food stalls, and Zhou Wen led Yan Tingmo to a cozy burger joint for fried chicken.
Yan Tingmo rarely ate burgers. When ordering, he only selected a serving of fries, a cup of cola, and a pineapple pie.
“You don’t eat sweets, though?” Zhou Wen said. “The pineapple pie is really sweet.”
Yan Tingmo paused for a moment but still didn’t remove it from his order. “Just a little bit, it’s fine.”
“Okay,” Zhou Wen nodded, looking down at his phone. “I’ll place the order.”
Yan Tingmo gently agreed, mentally calculating how much he should transfer to Zhou Wen later for his share.
The burger place was busy, with order screens on every corner of the tables. Still, many customers were queuing at the counter to place their orders.
Yan Tingmo glanced around at the decorations, then shifted his gaze to the large windows.
He and Zhou Wen were sitting facing the windows, giving them a full view of everything outside A University.
Kind-hearted girls were feeding cute, silly-looking cats; handsome, cheerful boys were chatting with their loved ones as they passed by; and then…
Huh?
Yan Tingmo focused his eyes, rubbed them to make sure he wasn’t imagining things. He thought he saw Qi Xing.
Before he could say anything, Zhou Wen, who had been looking outside too, voiced his surprise: “Is that Qi Xing?”
Yan Tingmo opened his mouth, ready to confirm. After all, was there anyone more handsome than Qi Xing in all of A University?
But then Zhou Wen added, “Who’s the girl next to him? Doesn’t he like you?”
Yan Tingmo immediately turned his head, whispering loudly, “He does NOT like me!”
Zhou Wen froze for a moment, then, after a beat, burst into laughter: “What exactly are you trying to hide?”
