Have a good day :)

...

Seeing the look on her face, I could tell that she wasn't too happy to see those people. As if she had a grudge against them.

"Those are... my derailed brothers. A sad story that I would rather not talk about right now" – said Miss Peregrine.

"Don't worry, if you don't want to talk about it, I won't insist" - I nodded.

"Very well. Snyway I think we are done for today. It has been quite an explanatory talk. Do you have any other doubts?" – asked Miss Peregrine.

"Not really, but if I can think of any I'll ask you" – I said.

"Very well, now I advise you to take a bath and stay for dinner with us. I want to introduce you to the rest of the children. I am sure they will get along very well" – smiled Miss Peregrine.

"Ok, I'll stay for dinner, but... then I'll have to go back. My father must be a little worried" – I nodded.

It's not yet the time to come and live with them permanently. The first thing I have to do is earn their trust completely and... spend some time with my father, specifically the rest of the weeks we have left to spend in Cairnholm. I know that I am delaying the inevitable, that in the end I will have to tell him the truth, tell him that his son will disappear to go with a group of children with supernatural powers and that his son would not return for a while. But... I had to think very carefully about what I was going to say. It's not easy to tell your own father that you won't come home with him and that it will be a while until you see him again... It's not easy at all and I need a lot of time to reflect on it.

"I think it's right. I'll call Miss Bloom to warm you up with some water and give you a clean change of clothes, you're completely soaked. Then we'll have dinner and if you want, you can leave later. Although I'd be delighted if you could stay" – said Miss Peregrine with a smile.

"The truth is..." – I tried to say.

"Don't go on, Mr. Portman. That's an extremely difficult decision to make. After all, unlike everyone here, you have a family waiting for you and loving you. But don't worry, you can take as long as it takes to decide" - said Miss Peregrine.

"You're right" - I nodded.

Actually, I'm thinking of staying, but for the moment I'll do as I'm thinking about it and weeks later I'll tell them that I'm staying and I'll tell them about the problem with my father. Maybe they'll help me, no... I'm sure they'll help me. They'll treat me like one of their own family by then.

"Perfect, then I'll call Miss Bloom to warm that bath and give you new clothes" – said Miss Peregrine.

Then. we got up, left the classroom and Miss Peregrine told me to wait there while she went to get Emma and that's exactly what I did. In fact, it would not be a bad time to receive the rewards for completing my mission, which, by the way, I have not received yet.

[You didn't receive them because I didn't want to interrupt you. Can you imagine that I give you the rewards and you stare at nothing for a few seconds; what would they think of you if they had seen you do that?]

Ehem, certainly nothing good and I don't want more people to think I'm crazy, so... thank you.

[You're welcome, but I won't give you the rewards yet. I need to explain a few things regarding the new system features, so you'd better wait for tonight, when you're completely alone and it doesn't matter if you talk to yourself or stare at the air for several minutes]

Right, I think it's better that way. Okay, I'll get the rewards by then. Anyway, I don't think I'll be around much longer, just a bath and dinner, plain and simple.

And thank goodness I didn't receive the rewards at that moment, because Miss Peregrine didn't take more than a minute to arrive with Emma by her side.

"As I have already said, Miss Bloom, prepare a hot bath for Mr. Portman and give him a change of clean clothes if you are so kind" - said Miss Peregrine to Emma.

"Understood, follow me" – Emma said.

She didn't seem to be very happy in my presence. it's as if my mere presence made her angry. Although it's probably due to the sad news she received just a few minutes ago. She probably sees me as the fruit of a love she should have had, Abe's grandson, her ex-boyfriend, who left her and Olive stranded for another woman, that he had children and grandchildren in turn. I think that for that reason she holds a certain grudge against me. Although I hope that grudge does not last long. In addition, I think that her resentment should be directed towards my grandfather who was the one who abandoned her. What is my fault that my grandfather abandoned them and went with another woman? But as I expected, i could not say that to her if i did not want to be burned alive.

I followed Emma to a huge bathroom located a little far away and on the lower floor of the huge orphanage.

When I arrived, Emma filled my bath and then warmed it using her flames, but she didn't say a word. As if she had been speechless.

"Thank you very much" – I said once I saw the steam coming out of the water.

But Emma didn't say anything and just gave me a look and then left without saying a word. Seriously, this girl is too temperamental and spiteful, but... I like temperamental women and what I'm going to say may sound a bit macho, but conquering this type of women gives you a feeling of incredible achievement. Once again I thank my grandfather for having left that beauty, thank you, grandfather. I hope you enjoy the show wherever you are.

After taking a relaxing bath and putting on some extremely old clothes (probably normal at this age), I went to the living room, whose location I already knew thanks to the exploration of the orphanage in ruins.

When I entered, I could notice numerous people staring at me, curiously, and there, at the end of the table, was Miss Peregrine.

"For those who don't know him yet, this is Mr. Portman, Abe's grandson, who will be having dinner with us today" - said Miss Peregrine.

"Good evening everyone. My name is Jacob Portman, it's a pleasure to meet you all" – I said in a polite tone.

Suddenly, the girl i recognized as Claire spoke.

"Is Jacob going to stay with us?" – Claire asked.

"You have to ask him that, I can't assure or deny anything" – said Miss Peregrine.

"Where's Abe?" - asked the boy I recognized as Hugh.

"In the United States" – Miss Peregrine replied.

"When will he be back?" – Clare insisted.

"I don't know and enough of the questions, let's have dinner. Mr. Horace must be about to come with dinner. Mr. Portman, take a seat" - said Miss Peregrine.

I looked around and saw that chair might be available and there were three specifically; one next to Claire; another two places further to the right where I would have Emma on my left and three more places to the right, another one where I would have Olive to my left.

Honestly, at this moment it doesn't seem that either of them is willing to interact with me, so... I'd rather sit next to Claire for the time being.

That said, I made it a point to sit in that chair, but before I could do it.

"Be careful!" - someone exclaimed.

Hearing that voice, Miss Peregrine frowned.

"Mr. Millard. What have I told you about walking around the house naked? The fact that you are invisible does not give you the right to walk naked wherever you want. Put immediately your clothes" – said Miss Peregrine.

"Ok, but for the record, I'm more comfortable like this" - Millard said.

Then, the chair moved of its own accord, and I suppose Millard left the place, but I honestly hesitated to sit down for a moment. After all, even though he was invisible, Millard had been sitting there completely naked. But it was either sitting there or next to two girls who seemed to hate me, so... I bit the bullet and sat in that chair.

I looked around and saw that many were still watching me curiously, as if they wanted to ask me millions of questions but were holding back because of Miss Peregrine's order.

Soon, two boys whom I recognized as Horace and Enoch showed up at the door bringing a bunch of food with them.

"Wellington-style otters!" - said Horace, putting the tray on the table.

"And kitten in brine and shrew's liver" – Enoch said reluctantly.

In fact, he was frowning and looked angry, as if he had been forced to cook and say that against his will.

*Note: in the book there are many mistakes and quite a few. Mistakes that I am fixing as best I can, one of them is this scene where other boys should appear, who, curiously disappear suddenly at the end of the book and no one ever remembers them again, as if they did not exist. Another example is the twins with strange masks, which disappear without a trace at the beginning of the second book, there are many mistakes to correct... The story is very good, but it has a lot of errors.

But that was not the only thing they brought, they also brought other types of food, some of them which I could recognize because the first courses were... Surely common for the time, but they almost made me want to vomit.

Seriously, if brainless animal rights activists had seen that cats are eating here... It would have made quite a stir. Luckily, those headless fools don't exist in this era.

After that, we started eating, but I could tell that Claire next to me was eating absolutely nothing. Naturally I know the reason, but I think this is a good time to become her friend, I want her to have a good impression of me from the beginning. After all and I think this is a very good opportunity, if I praise her peculiarity, I will score points with her or at least I think and hope so.
