Chapter 11: Notification
Chapter 11: Notification
Hearing Teacher Chen’s words, Li Shan and Li Xi began to walk inside.
The place where Teacher Chen lived was actually the village school. The entire school occupied three mu of land, even larger than Li Xi’s family courtyard.
The school was divided into three parts: the outer courtyard, inner courtyard, and main hall.
The outer courtyard was very large and open, serving as a place for village school students to practice their techniques.
The inner courtyard had many tables and rush mats arranged uniformly. Children usually sat here to listen to lectures. At the front of the room, there was a larger table and mat for the teacher.
The main hall at the very back of the courtyard served as the village school teacher’s resting quarters.
Originally, Taohua Village’s school building was old, having weathered many storms. It wasn’t as large or as new as it was now. Five years ago, the villagers pooled money to renovate it thoroughly.
It was also at that time that Chen Heng arrived and became the new village school teacher.
One could say Chen Heng was the first master of the new school.
After passing through the outer and inner courtyards, as soon as they reached the main hall, Li Xi bowed respectfully: “Li Xi greets Teacher.”
Li Xi had changed into clean clothes to visit the teacher. Her hair was styled into two bun-like structures, each tied with a pink string holding a small bell. Her round, chubby little face wore a serious expression, looking very adorable.
As she bowed and stood up, the small bells in her hair jingled.
Seeing this, a smile appeared on Chen Heng’s face, dispelling his otherworldly aura.
“The sun must be rising from the west for me to see Xi’er voluntarily coming to visit during spring break. How has your cultivation been lately?” From Chen Heng’s teasing words, it was clear that he quite liked Li Xi as a student and treated her with familiarity.
“Teacher, um, Xi’er has been diligently cultivating, practicing for a long time every day,” Li Xi said very seriously.
Teacher Chen particularly cared about his students’ cultivation, especially Li Xi’s. When school was in session, Li Xi was often called upon by him.
Although Li Xi appeared calm on the surface, she had actually been somewhat slack these past two days. She felt quite uneasy, fearing that the teacher might ask her to demonstrate.
“Xi’er has always been diligent in cultivation. I believe you,” Chen Heng said with a gentle smile.
Even Li Shan, standing nearby, felt guilty hearing these words. Everyone knew that his Xi’er was only diligent when it came to farming. For anything unrelated to farming, especially cultivation, she would procrastinate as much as possible, only frantically working hard at the last minute.
Hearing the teacher say this, Li Xi’s little face turned red.
There were only three people here – herself, the teacher who taught her cultivation, and her father. Who didn’t know how she really behaved daily?
Seeing Li Xi’s blushing face, Chen Heng’s smile widened, but he didn’t tease her further.
“What brings the Village Head here today?” he asked, turning to Li Shan.
“It’s nothing major. We made some meat pies at home today and thought to bring some for you to try,” Li Shan said, handing over the food box he was carrying.
Chen Heng raised his hand, and the food box floated from Li Shan’s hand towards him.
“Thank you for your thoughtfulness, Village Head,” Chen Heng said with a smile. “I’ll try these meat pies right away.”
He opened the lid of the food box, took out a meat pie, and took a bite.
The meat pie was indeed delicious.
The Tianyan Sect advocated naturalness, so they didn’t require disciples to abstain from food. Chen Heng usually ate meals, but he didn’t cultivate culinary skills and couldn’t cook. Being alone here, he mostly relied on fasting pills, only buying food from town when he really craved a meal.
So he wasn’t just being polite to Li Shan; he genuinely wanted to eat.
“Your family’s culinary skills are excellent, Village Head. These meat pies are very tasty,” Chen Heng said, putting down the meat pie after just one bite, maintaining his composure.
He always cared about his image, and eating the meat pie wasn’t very elegant, so he planned to continue eating after Li Shan and his daughter left.
“With the spring break and spring plowing, your family must be busy, Village Head. Is there a particular reason for your visit?” Chen Heng offered a topic.
“Indeed, because of spring plowing, I have a favor to ask of you, Teacher,” Li Shan said.
“What is it?” Chen Heng continued to ask.
“I went to town today to collect spirit seeds. I’d like to request your help in notifying the villagers to gather at the village threshing ground at 1:30 PM to distribute the spirit seeds,” Li Shan explained.
“That’s a simple matter. I’ll notify everyone right away,” Chen Heng said. He then used his spiritual energy to repeat Li Shan’s latter half of the message three times.
At the same time, all villagers within Taohua Village, regardless of what they were doing, heard a gentle voice in their ears, methodically repeating three times: “Spirit seed distribution at the village threshing ground at 1:30 PM.”
People in every household, whether working or resting, quickly began to move, arranging their affairs to go to the threshing ground.
They didn’t question the truthfulness of this voice, as the village had a tradition of asking the school teacher to help convey important matters.
Chen Heng had been here for five years and had helped transmit many notifications.
With the matter settled, Li Shan expressed his gratitude repeatedly before taking his leave.
After leaving the school, Li Xi finally regained her liveliness.
“Father, tomorrow we start plowing the fields. Didn’t you and Mother say you were going to town to rent a cow? Why didn’t I see a spirit cow when you returned?” Li Xi suddenly remembered this matter.
“You little girl, your memory is quite good,” Li Shan patted Li Xi’s little head with his big hand. “The town was in chaos today, very crowded. Your mother and I only managed to make arrangements with the townspeople. We still need to go back later to bring the cow home.”
“You’re going out again in the evening? It’s so unsafe at night!” Li Xi worried.
Taohua Village was over twenty li from Taohua Town, taking about an hour and a half to walk there. A round trip would mean it would be pitch dark by the time they returned.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already arranged with the village’s ox cart. He’ll take me there, and if we leave early, we can return before dark,” Li Shan reassured her.
“But we still have to go distribute spirit seeds soon, don’t we?” Li Xi persisted.
“With your big brother and second brother here, there’s no need to worry. Just relax, I’ve thought it all through,” Li Shan felt warmed by Li Xi’s concern.
Daughters are still the best!
