Chapter 6: Ninja Academy
The "???" reward was something Tony desperately needed in the Naruto world because otherwise, he wouldn't be able to do much, even if he attended the academy.
"[The host has successfully completed the mission!]"
"[Rewards are being delivered.]"
"[Recipe for the Curry of Life.]"
"[Chakra pathways unlocked.]"
"[Bonus surprise: Since this is the host's first completed mission, a bonus will be given.]"
"[The host will receive double the usual chakra for children of his age.]"
"[The host will gain mastery in hand seal formation.]"
Of course, it had to be about chakra! Tony recalled that in Naruto, one needed an adult's help to unlock chakra pathways, and no one had helped him with that. So now, besides being able to use chakra, he could employ double the usual amount for his age, and he didn't need to spend weeks practicing how to form hand seals.
"Ding! New mission: Become the alpha of the pack."
"Task: Stay as the top student in your class every year until graduation."
"Reward: Summoning contract + Awakened traits."
"Note: Prove your superiority to your classmates and teachers. After all, only the alpha gets to enjoy the best parts of the prey."
"Warning: The mission is considered failed if, by the end of the year, your name is not in the first place. Any fall and recovery before that is acceptable."
"A summoning contract? I wonder what cool beast I could get. Even awakening my traits? Looks like I'll have to work hard for the next three years."
"Ding! New mission: On my watch, no one will go hungry!"
"Task: Get all your classmates to taste your food at least once."
"Reward: Special pilaf recipe from Sanji (One Piece) + Semla recipe from Elbaf (One Piece)."
"Two missions this time, huh. The first one might be challenging because I have Neji and Sasuke as competitors; I'll have to focus on not falling behind. But the last one should be easy."
"Tony, pay attention!" Iruka's shout broke through his musings and brought him back to reality.
"Sorry, Master Iruka."
Iruka hesitated whether to continue scolding his new student. He had seen Tony's grades, and the theory was flawless. The only untested aspect was the ninja techniques, like the rope escape technique, the transformation technique, and so on.
"Alright, just pay more attention next time," he decided to let it slide since it was the first time, hoping there wouldn't be a second.
When the lesson ended, they had a lunch break, and Tony smiled like a villain, as he could now start his offensive.
"Guys, I made some food. Want to try it and give me your opinion?" he asked.
Choji used a speed akin to Minato's Flying Thunder God technique to appear in front of Tony and grab a portion of food with each hand. Ino enthusiastically stood up, and Shikamaru followed her, saying it was a drag.
"You don't have to eat if you're not hungry, Shikamaru," Tony said with a smile.
Shikamaru was taken aback and quickly said he needed to fuel his mind.
Kiba also approached and claimed the sausages for both himself and Akamaru. Alongside them came Hinata, who took some strawberries with cream, and Shino opted for some pancakes with jam.
"It's delicious~," Hinata murmured with a smile.
"This is the best jam I've ever tasted," Shino said.
"These sausages are awesome! Right, Akamaru?"
"Raawr!"
"Tony, how do you make so much food and have it taste so good?" Ino asked.
"Trade secret," Tony replied. He turned and waved at Team Guy. "Don't you want to try something?"
"What do you have?" Tenten decided to approach after seeing the sweets.
"Do you have something brimming with YOUTH?" Rock Lee asked.
"I don't think you're as good as you seem," Neji said sharply.
"I have some fantastic vanilla cookies," he said to Tenten. "If you want something with YOUTH, Lee, I have some special curry that I think you'll love. And you, Neji, don't judge without tasting anything. It's not your destiny."
"What did you say?"
Aha, I knew Neji would get annoyed if I used the word "destiny." It's like his switch when he's in his idiotic phase.
"I challenge you to try my food and say it doesn't taste good," I said with a look full of arrogance. My mission only involves getting him to eat something; he doesn't have to admit he likes it.
"Is that so? Fine! Show me what you're capable of."
"Do you prefer something sweet or savory?" Tony asked.
"I prefer something light," Neji narrowed his eyes challengingly.
"Try this vegetable sandwich then."
Neji took it brusquely and took a bite as if it was nothing special. The act would have been more convincing if he hadn't frozen in shock at the taste explosion in his mouth. The others who were eating had to make a small effort not to let their laughter show.
"...It's not that bad," Neji said as he walked away with the sandwich in hand.
"And don't you two want something?" Tony asked the "orange with legs" and the "depressed crow." He didn't call out to Sakura because when she saw Ino eating happily, she got the urge to try it too.
"Can I try some too?" Naruto asked, surprised.
I forgot, Naruto didn't have the best time at the academy. Did Iruka have a grudge against him? Well, it doesn't matter, the food was free for me anyway, and otherwise, I won't complete the mission. I'm really curious to try the Elbaf Semla. I think it's a spiced wheat bun filled with a mix of milk and almond paste, topped with whipped cream. Then the top is put back on as a lid and dusted with powdered sugar. I'm almost salivating just thinking about it.
"Come on over," Tony said. "I have some dango covered in sweet syrup. Tell me what you think."
While Naruto processed the invitation to eat, Tony's gaze rested on "Mr. Emo," I mean, Sasuke.
"I'm not hungry," he said dryly and concisely.
"Sasuke-kun, you should try Tony's food, it's really delicious," Ino invited.
"Yeah, yeah. Sasuke-kun, come eat with us," Sakura added.
"Annoying," Sasuke got up to leave, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Why don't you want to try it?" Tony asked, puzzled, as he turned to the others. "Doesn't he know my food would make him stronger?"
"Sasuke, I really advise you to try Tony's food," Shikamaru said, in a rare effort to speak when not strictly necessary.
"Why should I?" Sasuke is proud, but he's not as stupid as he acts. If Shikamaru is speaking for Tony, there must be a good reason. It can't be a coincidence that everyone is eating his food just for the taste, right?
"Use your eyes and you'll understand," was the only answer he got.
Sasuke stood there as the others ate until he decided to get it over with. He activated his one-tomoe Sharingan and saw how the chakra flow within his classmates was being stimulated.
"What the hell?" he exclaimed, surprised.
Was that food or ninja drugs?
If the food could really make him stronger...
He approached the group with steely determination.
"Give me a sandwich too!"
Tony handed it to him with a smile and awaited what was to come.
"[The host has successfully completed the mission!]"
"[Rewards are being delivered.]"
I love these kinds of missions.
