Chapter 9: Ch-9 SHIELD
[Harlem, Nick Fury POV]
Nick Fury stood in a temporary command post overlooking the wreckage, arms crossed, his one good eye scanning the disaster below. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents moved like clockwork, securing the area, recovering evidence, and debriefing survivors.
"Director, we investigated the people who were rescued by the man who calls himself Noctis."
"They reported that he has the ability to travel through matter. He came to the shelter and asked them to stay in physical contact "
"What about Blonsky?, I heard Ross was power hungry but this…"
"Emil Blonsky volunteered to get the serum injected in him. Noctis crushed his liver making him pass out of pain, which also returned to his normal form."
I heard the story and headed to the prison where Blonsky was located. I saw Ross standing there looking at Blonsky with greed in his eyes, I sighed.
"General, we are taking the prisoner with us."
"WHAT!? NO, he was created by the US military, and only will be used by the military."
"Have you lost your mind General, look around you this is your creation, this is your all doing 100s of lives lost. We at SHIELD are specialized for threats such as these. You couldn't handle him then how would you do it now."
"…"
"Your Judgement will be done by the WSC tomorrow. "I said as I left.
This guy, he thinks he has authority outside of the military. I headed back to my quarters, I sat on my desk looking at the picture of the one who called himself Noctis. 'Could he be a mutant?'. He rescued over a 100 people, maybe we could have come to an agreement with him. I leaned back as a sipped some whiskey. I contacted the Deputy Director of SHIELD.
"Good evening Director Fury"
"Agent Hill, I want you to investigate Noctis. We don't know where he went but we should be able to get the general direction from where he came from."
"Sir, we have already started the search, most of the CCTVs show no discrepancies. We only got him in the few broken CCTVs when he was less than 50m from feast. "
"I want you to enquire the people of Harlem, if they had seen something weird, just don't tell them that we are looking for a man that can phase through buildings", I ordered her.
[the next day]
What was once a bustling metropolis was now a war zone, streets cracked like a broken mirror, vehicles crushed beyond recognition.
People emerged cautiously from shelters, their faces etched with shock. Some clutched their phones, capturing footage of the wreckage. Others searched for missing loved ones, sifting through debris with trembling hands. Emergency sirens wailed in the distance, paramedics and firefighters weaving through the chaos.
The fight between Hulk and Abomination had ended hours ago, but its impact was far from over.
Survivors told their stories—some describing the horror of Abomination's initial attack, others praising the Hulk for stopping him. Online debates raged. Some saw the Hulk as a saviour, a force of nature that had prevented a worse catastrophe. Others feared him, arguing that without Hulk, there wouldn't have been a battle in the first place but there was no doubt that Noctis was revered as a hero. A symbol of hope that lead people in crisis to the light.
Political leaders held emergency press conferences, promising swift action. Some demanded Hulk be classified as a national threat. Others hesitated—after all, hadn't he saved them?
"And what about that guy who rescued over a lot of people? What's your opinion on him?", asked one reporter. There were only three pictures of Noctis that were taken by people on their phones, the most prominent being him staring down at Ross.
"We are thankful to the mysterious man, but we in no way endorse vigilantism. He should have surrendered to the army.", replied a senator.
The public had a mixed reactions, The media wasted no time. Every news channel broadcast aerial shots of the destruction, accompanied by dramatic headlines:
"Monster vs. Monster: Who Will Protect Us?""The Abomination's Rampage: How Did It Happen?"
[Fury POV ]
I stood at my command post, still looking at the wreckage with Maria Hill by my side.
Behind us, a monitor flickered with live feeds—one from the Pentagon, another from the World Security Council. The discussion was heated. The U.S. government wanted immediate action. Some pushed for Hulk to be detained, controlled, or worse. S.H.I.E.L.D., however, knew better. They had tried that before.
"This isn't over," one of the council members warned. "We need a long-term solution."
"I am very well aware, I have a few plans that I already told you"
"You're talking about the avenger's initiative?", the council woman asked.
The discussion went on further for a few hours until it was postponed. We also talked about the Noctis situation. SHIELD has been actively trying to suppress the news but it still spilled out by the people he rescued. I sighed in frustration as the meeting was coming to an end.
"What is going to happen with Ross?", I asked, knowing very well what will happen.
"We are aware of your concerns but you don't have to worry about his punishment.", replied the pentagon secretary.
"I see", I said as the call finally ended I went out of my office when I got a call from WSC secretary Alexander Pierce. "Ross has been suspended for 6 months and is demoted to lieutenant General.", he informed me.
"That little", I was surprised I was expecting expulsion from army and a year in prison.
"Both the US and the pentagon representatives are hell bent on saving him.", he replied with some disappointment. We chatted for a while then ended the call. I sat on my desk and called in Hill.
"Are these reports true? You sure that there is no one lying to get famous.", I enquired
"yes sir, they described his motorcycle. Except of those few who were at the scene no one had seen the motorcycle.", she commented.
We have 4 reports of people saying that they saw a black silhouette vanish into walls. I stood up and pulled out a map and started marking the places where people saw him. I noticed how most sitings aligned.
I took a ruler and started interconnecting the dots, They were almost in a straight line. I extended that line down to long island. I marked the areas nearby the line.
"So, that guy is either from Brooklyn or Queens", I declared with clarity. "Did we get any sightings in long island?", I asked her.
"No", she told me. I quickly marked the least populated areas along the line. If he was trying to stay hidden he would probably be seen in low population areas.
"Send Coulson and Sitwell to investigate these areas and enquire", As I handed over the map. "ask people about any weird sightings on the day of the incident. Around the time frame of 4:20 to 4:27". I ordered her, she looked back at me with a gaze full of admiration.
I wonder where Banner is. Bruce Banner was gone.
No one knew where he had disappeared to after the fight. The last sighting placed him leaping beyond the city limits, vanishing into the wilderness. Some wanted to find him. Others hoped he'd never return.
But one thing was certain—whether the world saw Hulk as a hero or a monster, he would always be both.
And sooner or later, he would return.
