Chapter 46: (1)
“Kaiyan! Are you okay? That was a reckless thing to do!” Uncle Jeff shouted loudly, scolding him.
Well, it was a momentary thought that came to Kaiyan’s mind, but it was quite dangerous.
“But thanks to that, the situation has turned around.”
“Well… that may be true, but…”
The remaining three Frogspawn looked at the corpses of their kin and gradually retreated.
Kaiyan knew exactly what those looks in the creature’s eyes were. It was the look that came when they were engulfed in fear.
“You don’t intend to let them escape, do you? We don’t know how many more they’ll bring next time.”
“Of course not! Haaah!”
How many soldiers had been sacrificed to those creatures? Setting that aside, if they let them go, there was a good chance they would come back with another group.
This place is a monster territory overflowing with monsters.
“Since Uncle Max is helping, then… Left!”
Papapak!
As Kaiyan swiftly turned his body to the left instead of running straight at the creatures, the Frogspawn shot dozens of thorns a moment too late.
It was a surprise attack, but their attacks fell within the range of Kaiyan’s danger sense and prediction.
“Penetrating Stab!”
Shyaeak-
“Keruk?”
Now that the creatures, who had just gotten up, saw the approaching sword, they let out a bewildered sound.
Phwook!
“Kerurr…”
Although the Frogspawn’s size had grown, their defenses remained the same. Kaiyan easily pierced through their leather and stabbed them in the head. The creature trembled and then convulsed, extending its body.
“Now, two of them!”
“Kahaaap!”
Boooong!
As Kaiyan shouted, Uncle Jeff’s sword, which had come a beat slower, sliced through the air.
Phwahak!
“Keaeak!”
The Frogspawn, with its chest deeply slashed by Uncle Jeff’s sword, collapsed.
“…Now, there’s only one left!”
“Kill it!”
Encouraged by Uncle Max’s cheer from behind, Kaiyan moved toward the last remaining creature. However, in the meantime, the creature seemed to have raised its thorns again and crouched down.
“Hold your breath, focus, pierce through!”
Kwaaak.
“Take this as a keepsake!”
Phwook-
“Ke… keur…”
The last remaining Frogspawn, still in the position of shooting out thorns, took a breath and fell to the ground, pierced by the sword.
“Now, is that the end of the Frogspawn?”
“It seems so.”
As Uncle Jeff breathed heavily, struggling to catch his breath, there were no more Frogspawns in sight.
Uncle Max, who had been ready to block any thorns from behind, lowered his shield and cautiously approached.
“For the three of us to take down the Frogspawn… We would have been in big trouble if you hadn’t been here!”
“It’s thanks to Max’s skillful blocking. It was possible because there were three of us.”
“Hey, this guy too. As if I did something.”
Uncle Max gestured with his head in embarrassment.
From Kaiyan’s perspective, he didn’t need his help as long as he relied on his danger sense. But for Uncle Jeff, it was like an extra lifeline.
And with Uncle Jeff being safe, it created a situation where Kaiyan could unleash his full power.
“It’s a relief that there are three of us.”
“Hee-yoo… But what about that? Are we going to help with that too?”
Uncle Max, sitting on the ground, pointed to the knights and the giant monster and asked.
While they were dealing with the Frogspawn, the knights and the monster were still fiercely exchanging attacks.
“Hmm…”
“Uncle Jeff, honestly, I don’t think we can be of much help to that creature. And just dealing with the Frogspawn should be worth it, right?”
Kaiyan quickly interrupted, sensing that Uncle Jeff’s gaze was ready to grab his sword and rush out.
Are we of any significant help to over ten knights who are struggling?
Even if he silently asks himself that question, the answer is clear.
There is no way to face a creature that is largely unharmed by the knights’ swords.
“So, what do you suggest, Kaiyan?”
Perhaps Uncle Jeff also realized that fact. He put down his sword again and asked.
“In his opinion… First, there are surviving soldiers in the temporary hiding place they made. What do you think about going there and taking them outside?”
“Going outside…?”
“Staying here any longer is futile, as you know. It’s absurd to think that Tarien, who was kidnapped, is still alive.”
It has been three days. Can that guy survive alone for three days? It’s highly unlikely.
‘If they search for him, the probability of finding a corpse is higher.’
Uncle Max, who was checking his shield, raised his hand as if he had something to say.
“According to what the knights say, he has an artifact, so his life shouldn’t be in immediate danger, right?”
“An artifact?”
This is the first time Kaiyan is hearing this. If there was such information, they should have told them earlier. But considering the knights’ frustrating way of handling things, he shook his head helplessly.
“Well, if that’s the case, they must be doing everything they can to save him because of that artifact. But what about food? There’s no way Tarien would have food with him.”
“Well… I guess it hasn’t been three full days yet, so it should be fine, right? Besides, he will learn about foraging.”
That was true. For an ordinary person, it might be difficult, but for Tarien, who has some physical training as a runner, surviving for three days without food shouldn’t be too hard.
“Haa… So, what do you suggest we do?”
A sigh escaped Kaiyan involuntarily due to the frustrating actions of the uncles. Are they really willing to risk their lives for a guy who is not on good terms with them?
“If there’s a possibility, I want to try it. And there’s no guarantee that we can go outside right now without the knights’ help.”
Uncle Jeff’s determined gaze.
Knowing his personality, it’s difficult for him to change his mind no matter what Kaiyan says.
‘Well… Uncle Jeff has always been like that.’
He threw away his sword to save Kaiyan from the goblins. Kaiyan knew that fact from the beginning.
‘As long as he thinks about the three of them, there are many ways they can safely go outside using the shop… But the other soldiers would have to be left behind.’
The deliberation was long, but there was only one answer.
“That’s right. Haa… I don’t know if this is the right thing to do.”
