Chapter 36: A sleeping secret
{no pictures, the warhammer wiki has a picture of the Tervigon}
Locked away in the bowel's depths… of any planets taken over by the imperium hide many secrets… and pains… pains required for victory… even if the cost for it… was everything…

While a golden knight treads through broken wires and bloody pools, he passes curious fighting scenes, leaving behind scars and dark magic! He checks his watch as he passes the corpse of a bluebird and nods while making sure the time is right. When a bug pops its head out from a wall panel smelling something delicious…
However, the bug didn't get to enjoy the moment for long, as it soon found a spear through its head! Quick and precise without a sound it died… but its blood ran hot…and while the knight walked away…. Others soon felt the blood's warmth! What started out as one or two, the golden knight soon found himself outnumbered by the hundreds! But with a nil expression, the knight only waved his hand, and out came a burst of pure energy! The raw energy skinned their flesh in but a moment! But even though it only lasted but a moment, the bugs felt every microsecond of extreme pain! Their eyes exploded from the inside and their blood boiled in those tight moments! Like little water balloons, they all became ash!
And while the knight continued his walk, like nothing had happened, the ashes on his armor pulled away to show its pristine Aegis! And with each step, the floor vibrated with heaviness… and with each heavy step, the sounds traveled through the pipes and through the metal and rock… until they moved the cell bars of chained prisoners of war!
Beastmen by the dozen but feral in their nature, wanted freedom… nay demanded it! But filled with screams of terror! As they watch fellow inmates be fed upon by a mutant bug! Big and loud the old creature roared with guile as tore into beastmen flesh! With missing limbs and broken scales, the monster swore with what's left of its autonomy a blood vengeance… but not against the beastmen but on the pink creatures that have kept it under lock and key! It will never forget their scent even with blinded eyes!
But while he dwelled in the basement, a certain girl and her 'guardsmen' made their way through the fortress! Room by room they slowly crawled… slowly making headway as they walked with gentle steps… with whispers, they talked to each other, and with mindfulness, they kept a distance from each other. Until they enter the hallowed halls of the food court! Drowned in his majesty's likeness, the furniture, the art, the sigils places, and the book of prayers littler every step.
With eerie winds and every food that went to waste in insect stomachs, the crew stumbled on a giant sleeping bug!
[what… in God name is that!]
{shut it! Dylan!} replied Layla as she gestured to him a rude remark.
But while her eyes panned over to Steve, she saw fear and a body gesture she knew all too well! So, with fear and concern, Layla slowly turned around to see the giant Tyranid with drool and red eyes!
{well shit… It's a Tervigon! RUN!}
With gunfire pelleting its precious scales, the Tervigon annoyed that its nap had been disturbed, called with a mighty roar its brood! A call its children answered by the dozen… primal in their abilities and looks, with numbers, they rushed to their mother's aid!
[what the hell is a Tervigon?] yelled Dylan through spurts of gunfire.
{Big mother bug! And stop shooting it! You're just wasting ammo! Aim for the little four-legged fuckers instead!}
[that is easier said than done! Oliver! Where are we going?]
[t…. That way... no… is it that way….]
[Oliver! Just pick a dam direction!]
[you just had to agree with the bitch! Now look where we're at! Knee deep in bugs' shit! This is why we should have…. also…why the hell did we give him the map!]
[shut up! Steve! You're not helping!]
Hearing the annoying banter of the three guardsmen, Layla seriously debated for a moment just leaving them behind… but paused that line of thinking as Miss A pointed out:
[those three are foolish men who have suffered for so long… you don't need to mind them... Only use them… risking yourself for dead men is meaningless and you know it…. So, tell me, Layla... Why do you make that sad expression?]
{you're misunderstanding me Miss A… is not that I feel anything for them… it's the opposite instead I couldn't care less… no… what saddens me is what their existence means and what that will entail going forward.}
And thus, with a sad expression, Layla pained her mind as he let go of her control and let the fire brewing in her heart loose! Fire birth from psyker energy roared and consumed the Gaunt of an ancient type! And as their Tervigon mother watched her children burn… she felt equally nothing… she simply births more and more! Content to have her kids do the casing she waited patiently for them to bring her their foes biomass.
Tho the blue flame was pretty in her eyes, she was confused by it…. As she began to wish it for her children! But she was not a real queen and could not do that in which she wished she could! And that confused her even more.
But lost in her own individual thoughts, thoughts she knew should be impossible, her prey escaped through tunnels of the small kind! But that didn't matter as she would let her children keep the chase!
In the narrow halls, lined with pipe works, and machines, Layla and crew ran for their lives! As steam burst form pips from missed fires and stress, the ground shakes with the thuds of many bugs, and lights and fixtures falling by the wayside!
With sticky waters at her feet, Layla let go of fire after fire! Every time the creatures got close; they were met with a wall of flame! But even with ash and burned bodies, the Gaunt would not stop! They crawled over their dead siblings without a moment of hesitation, as if they meant nothing! But to the Tyranids that's exactly what they're worth… nothing! Nothing as their tore through their bodies, their claws, their teeth! The individual did not matter, only the hunt did!
As bodies piled up like a wall, and the smell unbearable, dead servitors still blinked in the dark, while the outer lines of the halls became even narrower…squeezing even tighter on the crew! With blood and oil mixing, the fire took its chance! But even that did not stop them! Unrelenting the Gaunts got closer, their claws and teeth sharp and wet!
Even when scorched, half-melted, and burning pus exploding on their outer shells, the leading Guant claw tore through the fog! Seeing the claw peer through the smoke, but unable to turn away, as she was busy keeping the fire, Layla could only see it come down in slow motion, as Miss A sighed….
With her sigh, Layla Psyker's energy turned from her flames into a shield! But her shield was made too quickly! Fragile and unstable it shattered like golden glass! As now teeth and claw bore so close! Inches by inches, Layla's brain swapped colors from golden sapphire to her darker purple hue!
But even as the energy swirled in micros of seconds, it would not be fast enough to prevent an injury! Choosing to take the claw as an injury, Layla trusted her blade forward towards the teeth! Stabbing and twisting her blade in the Guant guttural face! And with that twist, she forces open her other eye! Releasing a flame from the tips of the blade! A flame that burned through the creature's orifices! But an injury that does not kill instantly… does not register to a Tyranid!
With conviction as its drive, the last of its strength, its claws came down for a strike! As blood splattered and metal broke, Steve was stabbed through the chest! As bodies fell, and steam rose, Steve said through blood-filled words:
[I…. I.. told you we should… not have…]
Seeing the body of Steve, Layla paused and questioned herself why? But a moment of pause in a battle is a fatal one! For more bugs race to fill the gap! With teeth itching for a bite, they lunged forward! The other two guardsmen screamed as they fired, pleading for their battle sister to move. But to their surprise, she did not, as a big metal door came closing right in time!
Meanwhile up in space
[Lady Danica!]
[calm cadet... Take a deep breath and speak slowly.]
[...]
[good now, do you have something to report?]
[yes, my lady! The report from Port Maw and the other border planets has come and it's not good news mam!]
[nothing ever is… So, what is the situation]
[the main fleet of the Tyranid have already passed their worlds and will be at us in a month's time!]
[So, we have a shorter time sheet…. Nothing totally unexpected… after all those worlds were…]
[shut it corporal! Continue cadet…]
With a smug smile at the corporal chastisement, the cadet continued:
[mam…]
[Yes?] replied Danica confused as to why the cadet's sudden change of expression
[I don't know how else to say this but… they have reported sighting other known tendrils… something about Behemoth, Kraken, and Leviathan…]
Hearing those words sent a chill down Danica's back as she turned to the cadet and said:
[Is there anything else…]
[yes mam! they continue to report that even though the bugs had won the space battle they completely ignored the planets… they even abandoned their cultist on those worlds… the planet's remaining forces are revising a counter strategy as we speak! They plan to retake the opposition!] replied the cadet but was shortly interrupted.
[hold! You said they ignored the planets?]
[that right mam, they overtook the planet defenders but kept going… the report doesn't state why though… is that important?]
[very… it's very important! The bugs just don't ignore biomass when they can get it! You also mention the other tendrils! What's their status? We need to run a simulation quickly!]
[I'm confused mam…]
[it doesn't matter just continue the report! Anything about Terra's 2nd fleet!]
[there is mam but should I not continue with the border reports first?]
[there still more?]
[Yes! Mam! There is… they say that one of their survivors thinks he saw a suspicious Tyranid vessel…]
[what does he mean by suspicious…]
[well… he thinks it might be a vessel carrying a queen Tyranid!]
Hearing the word Queen, sent alarm bells in Danica's mind, prompting her to quickly ask:
[which planet… no which tendril!]
[it was sighted above Port Maw… and they believe it to be the tendril of Tiamet!]
[Oh! Come on cadet! You expect us to believe the Tyranids managed to not only sneak past but break through the space gates of Port Maw! Lady Danica, you can't possibly entertain this report... Right! Clearly, it's got to be a fake…]
[for the last time corporal shut the fuck up! Before I send a bullet in your head! CADET continue…]
Knowing it wouldn't be wise to smirk this time, the cadet quickly said:
[ugh… the report states that during the space fight a massive psyche wave was unleashed that disrupted communication etc.… but the most disturbing thing was the size of their flag vessel! And here I quote:
'Unmeasurable in length and power, nothing we throw at it even scratches the scales of the beast! It was like a dream as I saw it swallow whole groups of ships and a newly built fortress…like they were simple pebbles on the road… though I normally never fear anything, after seeing this... Thing… I fear for the worlds that must face it 'end quote
Of course, no one on board, other than Danica understood, just how terrifying that thing must have been. For the brave and battle-harden men of Port Maw to say such a thing. After all, they fought back the traitors of old!
[sigh is there anything else…]
[hmm… no mam that concluded my report for the border planets, but as for the reports concerning Terra 2nd fleet, well... I don't know how I should say this…]
[Just out with it!]
[the 2nd fleet is currently under attack…]
[under attack? By who? Who would be crazy enough to…]
[mam… they didn't give a name but... They sent a picture of an emblem… I'm sorry but I don't recognize it…]
As the cadet handed over the datasheet to Dancia, she almost had a heart attack, as she dropped the datasheet onto the floor!
Puzzled by her reaction, all the bridge crew had the same thought, but unable to ask because of their position they waited patiently for Danica to collect herself. When she finally did, she whispered the name with vile…
[Word bearers!]
