Chapter 2: Chapter 1:Beginning
Xia Chao opened his eyes to find himself lying in a confined space.
Surrounded by smooth walls, the area was just large enough to accommodate one person; attempting to turn over would result in hitting the low ceiling. The darkness was absolute, and the silence was profound, broken only by the sound of his own heartbeat: thump, thump, thump...
*How did I end up here?*
His mind was foggy. What had happened? Where was he? He could only recall the argument with his mother, followed by his usual departure from home. Beyond that, his memory was blank, offering no clues about his current predicament.
In this pitch-black enclosure, Xia Chao began to feel around. The cramped, rectangular space evoked thoughts of a coffin. It seemed to be sealed, with the air growing increasingly thin, leading to a suffocating sensation. The slow approach of death was terrifying. If he ever got out, he would never want to recall this experience. He didn't want to die so inexplicably in such a place.
After what felt like an eternity of groping in the dark, his fingers brushed against some erratic carvings on what seemed to be the ceiling. They felt like words, etched deeply. With no other leads, and the suffocation intensifying, Xia Chao painstakingly deciphered the markings.
"A...L. Alice," he read aloud a name both familiar and strange. Following it were two sentences: "Life is death. Entrance is exit."
What does this mean? Life is death? Entrance is exit?
Various interpretations flashed through his mind, but none made sense.
"Ding-dong." A sweet little girl's voice suddenly echoed in his ears. "Welcome to the 'Alice in Wonderland' instance. Difficulty: C. Now issuing the main quest: Dear little Alice, when the sun rises on the fourth day, walk to the forest's exit, and Grandma will come to take you home.
Quest hint: It's said that the Queen of Hearts adores red roses.
Quest level: C. Dear little Alice, stay safe.
—From your good friend, Della."
A wave of dizziness washed over him, and the surroundings began to brighten. The suffocating feeling dissipated, and Xia Chao gasped for air.
Looking up, he found himself in a vast, elongated hall. Behind him stretched a dark, deep corridor; above, a magnificent crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling. On either side of the hall were eight locked doors. Directly opposite the corridor was a clock.
Oddly, its dial had 72 hours and was counting down.
Several people were already standing in the hall. Scanning the room, Xia Chao noticed a somewhat familiar face. They had likely met recently, though he couldn't recall where.
The person's previous smile was gone, replaced by a bewildered expression. As Xia Chao entered, he was met with ambiguous looks from the others.
For a moment, Xia Chao was stunned. He glanced down at himself and, as expected...
Everyone was dressed in an adorable blue dress, adorned with a white apron that had a small pocket.
Staring at the outfit, information about it surfaced in his mind:
Alice's Little Dress (Bound), Level: White. Function: What else is a dress for but to wear? Of course, it's also for holding things. Evaluation: We believe all children wearing this dress are the cutest.*
Strictly speaking, Xia Chao didn't look bad in it. His fair skin and tall, slender build, coupled with delicate features, made the dress somewhat fitting. However, the hall was filled with a motley crew.
He lifted his gaze, observing several figures. Apart from one girl, most were men, with some towering over 1.9 meters and possessing robust builds.
?!
Clearly, the quality of this little dress was quite commendable.夏Xia Chao opened his eyes to find himself lying in a confined space.
