Chapter 6: New Ride
I woke up with a start, looking around before remembering where I was.
"Have a nice sleep?" Matt asked from the driver's seat. He glanced at me, a big smile on his face.
"The best in a long while." I answered, matching his grin.
It's been two weeks since I became Nico Voss. So far, most of the time has been spent planning, trying to translate the rough plan into an actual plan.
We've been able to figure out the best places to go, the best things to do and the best way to do it. I can say with confidence that we've dotted our I's and crossed our T's.
A lot of it required studying up on Mila, consuming her content and trying to figure out the real person underneath it. So far, I believe we've come up with the best plan we possibly can.
And for the first and most important step, we're currently on our way to getting the supercar we'll be using.
I can say it hasn't been easy to find a supercar beautiful enough to catch her attention AND one that she hasn't taken a picture with before.
Then, it was another thing to sort out insurance for the car.
All in all, it had been a bit more stressful than I'd thought. Turns out insurance for supercars is another ballgame.
Paying had been the easiest part of the whole thing and now, we were on our way to collect the car.
Before we get there, there's one thing I want you to know.
Remember when I told you that I got a second life?
Turns out my second life is in another world. Yes, it's earth but this earth has something that makes it different from our earth.
Antarctica exists here and it's habitable. It had been a shock and at the same time, totally obvious when I found out I actually lived in the city of Crownsborough, Antarctica.
And here's the kicker. Remember my father, Logan Voss?
He's the richest man in the continent with an estimated net worth of a hundred and forty five billion dollars. This also makes him one of the richest men in the world.
I spent a few more minutes thinking of how long it'll take me to actually tear that empire of his from his hands when we arrived at the dealership.
"We're here." Matt said, breaking me out of my thoughts.
We stepped out of his Honda Civic and walked into the McLaren dealership. We were met at the door by the same salesman that had attended to us the last time we came.
The man had what had to be the warmest smile I've ever seen and I couldn't help but wonder how many hours he'd spent practicing it in front of a mirror.
"Good afternoon, Mr Voss, Mr Hardin! Welcome back to McLaren. Today's the big day, isn't it? Ready to take home your new masterpiece?"
"Absolutely." I smiled at him.
"I can only imagine the excitement!" He rubbed his hands together with the enthusiasm of a man who loved his job.
"Everything's set and ready for you. We'll take care of the paperwork first, then you'll be able to see your new McLaren up close in the delivery area. It's a stunning machine."
"Honestly, I can't wait to see it." Matt said from beside me.
"Right this way." The man gestured with a big smile. "The paperwork won't take long, and I'll make sure to walk you through everything so it's nice and smooth. After that, you'll have the keys in your hands."
"I've seen a lot of happy customers drive out of here, but this is something special. You've made a fantastic choice, sir."
He began leading the way, talking as he went. Matt and I exchanged a smile and began following him.
True to his words, the paperwork went by smoothly and before long, we were heading to the delivery area.
"It's time to see your McLaren Senna in all its glory." The salesman smiled as we walked. "Under the hood is a 4.0 liter twin turbo engine that produces an astonishing eight hundred horsepower."
I could tell from the way he spoke that he was a car enthusiast. He also had a way of talking that drew you in.
"Zero to sixty in two point seven seconds. And with a top speed of over 200 miles per hour, let's just say… you'll never feel underpowered."
"Not bad." I said, even though I was struggling to keep my grin from widening. This was exactly the kind of life I'd dreamed of. The salesman smiled at me, totally aware that I was trying to play it cool.
"And without further ado," the door slid open, "here we are."
I walked in and the moment I saw the car, my breath caught in my throat.
The McLaren Senna sat under a spotlight, looking almost too perfect to be real. The car was painted a beautiful jet black with orange highlights.
Its massive rear wings made it look more like it belonged on a racetrack than on any road we'd be driving. But that was exactly the point.
I walked closer, examining it from every angle. I turned back to look at the salesman. "It's perfect."
He stepped forward, holding out the key fob. "Here you go, Mr. Voss. Your McLaren Senna. I'm confident it'll exceed every expectation."
I took the fob from him.
Matt clapped me on the shoulder. "Ready to take her out for a spin?"
I met his eyes, both of us sporting big grins. "More than ready, bro."
I walked to the car and opened its dihedral doors and paused. It took being slick but I was able to enter without messing up.
One wouldn't be able to guess just from looking at it but entering a Senna wasn't as easy.
I closed the door and sat there. I'd researched this car but now that I'm inside, I realized that there was something I'd missed.
How do I start it?
As if he knew what I was thinking, the salesman called out to me. "On the roof."
I looked up to see the start button. Who the hell puts the start button on the roof?!
It didn't matter though. I'd taken my first step into the world of wealth and exclusivity.
