The Main Heroine Falls for the Extra

Chapter 20 - Count Wentos' Territory

Kino Wentos.
A character who appears in the latter part of the novel “Child of Yggdrasil,” one of Princess Aine’s subordinates who serves in the Magic Corps.
She’s established as Kyo Wentos’s younger sister who appeared in the early part, but most readers had a “who was that again?” reaction, and even in the novel she’s only mentioned once in passing.
She herself never spoke about her brother at all.
Well anyway, though there might be differences due to the future timeline, the Kino Wentos in the original story shows the image of a cool “soldier” who strictly follows orders from superiors and confronts the group.
A cool beauty who mercilessly opposes Allen’s group, using powerful magic and combat skills to take them down one by one and drive them into a corner.
That’s the Kino Wentos from the original story.
But hmm…
Well, I’ve desperately tried to come up with excuses for myself.
In this world, after passing through the childhood night hours, that exhilaration, that excitement after diligently learning and acquiring “magic.”
It caused a relapse of a disease I had once suffered from and been cured of.
The shame I felt after recovering from that illness, that feeling that made me kick my blankets in my sleep—magic as an unknown artifact gave me such a shock that I forgot all about it.
The fearsome culture shock!
And then I completely mastered the efficient but difficult magic called Wind Cutter, and in return, my condition worsened.
But! If it had ended there, it would have just been a matter of me kicking my blankets in the middle of the night.
“Brother, what are you doing?”
Yes, I displayed insane levels of idiocy in front of my still young and innocent little sister.
“Wow! That’s so cool!”
The problem was that I worsened my condition even more because I was happy about my little sister’s pure and admirative reaction.
And so, after being exposed to me for more than a year, my little sister…
“My name is ‘Alukhinon of the Blood Wind’! I am the one who will dye this pure white land in blood!!”
Had become quite an impressive bundle of dark history.
Looking at it another way, this might be an even more terrifying disease precisely because it’s curable.
This disease called chuunibyou.

…Well, for that reason.
Every time I forget about it, when the evidence of the sin I committed back then appears right in front of me like this, the damage is no joke.
Critical damage to my heart.
“L-let’s get going quickly then.”
“Yes!! Welcome back to Eden! ‘Alustar of the Tempest’!'”
“Aaah!! Aaaaaaah!!”
Stop it!
Don’t bring up any more of my dark history!!
Thanks to my loud exclamation, it seemed like Riel didn’t hear the last part.
However, Riel was looking at me strangely, probably because I suddenly shouted.
More importantly, that eye patch she’s wearing now looks like it’s mine.
Why does she have something I had thoroughly sealed away in the depths of my room when I successfully graduated from my youthful phase?!
“Umm… your younger sister is quite… unique…?”
Riel carefully phrased her words.
That it ended with just “unique” is probably because this is a fantasy world where chuunibyou doesn’t exist but magic does.
Of course, even so, it’s still strange behavior.
“Right? Ha… hahaha…!”
Let me just laugh it off for now.
“Haha…hahaha…”
Grip
“W-wait a minute! My blood relative, not so forcefully…!”
“…Let’s talk about everything in the carriage and go quickly.”
“But…! Ack!! Brother! You’re really hurting my neck, so please let go…!”
I grabbed the neck of Kino’s cloak as she was still striking some kind of impressive pose, and dragged her to the carriage.
I don’t want to do this to my cute little sister, but I want to prevent her dark history from expanding even a little bit.
This is advice from a prophet, Kino.
And so that someday, when she grows into a beautiful lady like in the original story, she might forgive this brother of hers to some degree.
“It’s been a long time for you too, Seed!”
“It’s been a while, Lady Kino.”
Phyllis, conversing with Kino in the carriage after a long time.
Come to think of it, Kino did follow Phyllis quite a bit.
Phyllis is one of the few people in the Count’s family who can treat Kino in that state as if nothing is unusual, along with my mother.
My father would give a bitter smile at Kino’s behavior, Asta would stare with a blank expression, and I had to endure internal injuries.
“And you are…?”
“I’m Riel Ignis.”
Riel, sitting opposite Kino, greeted her first.
Riel smiled brightly and gave Kino a simple noble greeting.
She was comfortable talking to Kino whom she’d just met, despite taking some time to speak with Emilia who was more familiar in appearance.
While slightly surprised by this fact, I swallowed the words that were about to come out.
Could her condition be improving a bit?
“Kukuku! My name is ‘Alukhinon of the Blood Wind’! I am the blood-colored flower blooming in this pure white land!”
“I…I see…?”
“I shall specially grant you permission to call me ‘Kino’ with ease!”
“Yes… nice to meet you…?”
See that.
Normally, people can’t keep up with that energy level. My mother and Phyllis are the strange ones.
As my internal injuries seemed to have calmed down a bit, I drank some warm tea I had in my flask.
“So, my blood relative.”
“Hmm?”
Kino suddenly turned to address me.
Since I hadn’t fully swallowed my tea yet, I just made a sound to acknowledge her, then…
“Is this crimson maiden your new companion?”
“Cough!! K-ack…ack!”
Oh, I choked.
No, I unconsciously reacted because it came out of nowhere…
Look at that. Even Riel is so surprised that her face has become indistinguishable from her hair color.
“Cough…hack…! What are you suddenly saying, Kino!”
“Kyo and I are just friends!”
“Hmm, saying ‘just’ means you’re thinking about becoming more someday?”
“Auuuaaaa…!”
Riel began making strange noises with her bright red face.
Kino was staring at her with an intrigued expression.
Feeling the need to resolve this somehow, I glanced at Phyllis who was sitting next to Kino, and Phyllis nodded and whispered something in Kino’s ear.
Then Kino also whispered to Phyllis, exchanging a few words of conversation, and…
Kino nodded with a bright smile.
“I see! So that’s how it is!”
“Yes. That’s how it is.”
“Of course I welcome it! Once again, I look forward to our relationship! Crimson maiden!!”
“Um…yes…? Thank you…?”
Riel shook Kino’s extended hand with a bewildered expression, unable to follow the development.
Honestly, I don’t understand how this was resolved either.
I beckoned to Phyllis and asked her:
“Phyllis, what exactly did you say to Kino?”
“……”
Phyllis remained silent for a moment, then spoke:
“It’s a secret.”
“……”
What did she really say?

Edwin Barony.
Baron Walter Edwin, who ruled the barony, was handling his duties with the help of his son Valencia.
There were many documents to organize, such as profits from the territory, funds needed for territory maintenance, amounts to be used for investments, and so on.
Fortunately, this month’s revenue wasn’t bad, and they were able to earn more profit than usual.
“Father, regarding the compensation payment to be sent to Count Wentos’ territory.”
“Fortunately, the Count said we could pay it in installments when we have surplus, so set aside as much as we can spare.”
“Yes.”
Of course, they didn’t forget to allocate the compensation.
It was an amount too difficult to pay all at once, but it seemed like it would somehow work out if they struggled for about a decade or so.
Valencia, who had been recording in the ledger, spoke as if he’d just remembered something.
“Come to think of it, it’s about time for Liliana’s probation to end.”
“Hmm.”
Baron Edwin had heard that his daughter, whom he had sent to apologize, instead caused her former fiancé to be involved in a duel dispute and get injured.
He had been furious, forcibly brought his daughter back, put her under probation, and notified the academy.
It was a one-month probation, but it was almost time for it to end.
Baron Edwin’s feelings were complicated.
In his heart, he didn’t want to send his daughter back to the academy, but he had promised to release her after a month.
As if it wasn’t enough that they had acted contrary to common sense with the one-sided cancellation from the baron’s family side, even the aftermath was troublesome, so the baron’s anger was tremendous.
Just then, there was a knock on the study door.
“What is it?”
“Master, the young lady wishes to see you.”
“…Let her in.”
His daughter Liliana, who had been placed under probation in the mansion.
Throughout the probation period, she had shown no intention of coming out of her room.
Now that she had suddenly come out of her room and asked to see him, Baron Edwin’s eyes showed a hint of bewilderment.
The door opened and Liliana entered.
The condition of his daughter, whom he hadn’t seen in a long time, was quite serious.
Her once glossy hair had become dry and lifeless, and her lusterless eyes were filled with fatigue.
Perhaps because she hadn’t left her room at all, her skin was pale to the point of whiteness, and her body also seemed to have lost some weight.
Enough to make the baron, who had been burning with anger toward his daughter, momentarily forget his anger and feel pity.
“Father…”
“…Yes, what is it?”
There was no vitality in her voice at all.
“Is it about the probation? I was just talking about that matter.”
“……”
“As for the academy, you can return there. Honestly, I want to object, but if that’s your will…”
“No, Father, that’s not it.”
Liliana interrupted the baron.
She faced the baron who was looking at her, and opened her mouth with a weak smile.
“I want to quit the academy.”
“……”
“There’s no reason for me to attend anymore.”
“Is that so.”
Liliana was sincere.
She no longer wanted to go to the academy.
Certainly, there had been a desire to remain at the academy at all costs if she could be with Allen.
But one day, after spending nearly a month confined in the house, unable to meet Allen and enduring painful days, her heart suddenly settled.
The reason why she had to be with Allen at all costs…
…What was it again?
With such a settled heart, she thought about it and then gave up.
It was all over. That was the only thought that came to mind.
She couldn’t understand what had happened to her heart, but there was one thing for certain.
It couldn’t be undone now.
That alone was certain without any doubt.
“Liliana.”
“Yes, Father.”
“Have you thought about going to the Magic Tower?”
“What?”
Liliana’s eyes showed confusion at this unexpected question.
“We received word that the Magic Tower would like to welcome you.”
“The Magic Tower…?”
“Although you have little magical energy, your talent for handling it was exceptional. It seems the Magic Tower has evaluated that talent.”
From the beginning, Liliana had formed a connection with the Wentos Count family based solely on her talent, which had developed into an engagement.
Her talent for magical energy manipulation was recognized even by the Magic Tower, and there was even a recommendation for her.
The baron deliberately didn’t mention that it was Count Wentos’s recommendation.
He had a feeling that if he did, she might refuse to go to the Magic Tower as well.
“As you would know, once you enter the Magic Tower, you cannot leave until your education is complete.”
“……”
“If you have talent, 2-3 years would be sufficient, but the Magic Tower is a place where some people don’t achieve greatness even after nearly 10 years. Of course, if you don’t want to go, I won’t force you…”
“No.”
Liliana shook her head and said with a faint smile:
“I’ll go to the Magic Tower.”
“…I see.”

My home after a long time, the mansion of the Wentos Count family.
Since it’s a mansion inside a fortress, it’s a rugged building that prioritizes practicality over aesthetics.
Still, it’s quite large with a magnificent garden, and there’s also a botanical garden maintained by my mother in the back—it has everything it needs.
I take pride in saying that its substance is no less than that of any duke or marquis family.
Of course, this is all thanks to the enormous revenue earned from the count’s territory.
It’s so much that my father spent lavishly for my mother’s botanical garden, saying it was for his beloved wife, even though it wasn’t particularly necessary.
In the reception room of that mansion, I was sitting across from my parents.
Riel was sitting next to me.
“Welcome back, Kyo.”
“Yes, Father.”
A man with black hair he passed down to me, brown eyes, a face that could be considered quite handsome despite a few scars, and above all, a large physique full of muscle, approached wearing formal attire.
Behind him followed a woman with the same mint-colored silver hair as Kino.
My father, Count Killian Wentos, the head of the Wentos Count family.
And his wife, my mother, Countess Sylvia Wentos.
“We’ve exchanged several letters, but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen you in person, Kyo.”
“I’m glad to see you’re in good health too, Mother.”
My mother also approached with a gentle smile and embraced me.
Hmm, being held in my mother’s arms always feels good, and there’s even a faint flower-like scent…
Ahem, ahem…
My mother who had been embracing me pulled away and turned her gaze to Riel.
My father also turned his gaze to Riel.
Riel bowed her head with a slightly tense expression.
“P-pleased to meet you! I am Riel Ignis, the second daughter of the Ignis Duke family!”
At this, my parents smiled with kind expressions.
“Haha, there’s no need to be so tense.”
“I’ve heard a lot about you in letters, and from Eve as well.”
“Y-yes…!”
Hmm, she’s still nervous.
However, the “nervousness” that Riel was displaying now seemed to be of a different quality from the “nervousness” she usually showed at the academy.
If what she showed at the academy was close to a pathological attack, this was more like… normal nervousness?
Is Riel’s condition really improving?
After greetings with my parents and introducing Riel, she followed Phyllis to unpack her luggage in the guest room.
After parting briefly with Riel, I remained in the reception room with my parents.
My mother spoke up:
“Riel is a nice girl.”
“Yes, she’s very kind.”
A brief silence.
Breaking that silence, my mother spoke again:
“How do you feel about her?”
“Of course I think she’s a kind and good person.”
“Then, hypothetically speaking…”
“Mother.”
Having roughly guessed what my mother was about to say, I stopped her.
“It’s only been about a month since my engagement was dissolved.”
“…That’s true.”
“And since it’s an issue that needs to be discussed between families, the Ignis Duke’s family is not in a normal state right now.”
The conversation shifted to the topic of the Ignis Duke family.
Of course, my mother had heard about the Ignis Duke family through letters, and my father would have heard it from my mother as well.
Not just that.
As long as Eve was staying in Count Wentos’s territory along with Princess Aine, they would have heard from Eve as well.
My father, who had been listening to the conversation between my mother and me, spoke up:
“I’ve also heard about the state of the Duke’s family. It’s an absurd situation.”
“Father, you’ve met Duke Ignis before, haven’t you?”
“Yes. It was more than 10 years ago, but I have met him.”
My father trailed off, saying, “He didn’t seem like that kind of person…”
Well, given that we can’t even determine the Duke’s whereabouts now, there’s not much point in discussing him.
“So I’m trying to meet the Duke with Riel, and I heard he briefly met with Princess Yuril recently.”
“So you came to meet Princess Aine in order to meet Princess Yuril?”
“Exactly. So, is Princess Aine here?”
Good that the conversation is moving quickly.
I needed to meet Princess Aine and ask her to arrange a meeting with Princess Yuril.
“Princess Aine is staying at the mansion, but she took out the entire Knights Order and Magic Corps, saying she was conducting group training.”
“…She’s still the same.”
I gave a bitter smile at my father’s words, recalling some old memories.
“Well, she should return before dinner. I’ll make sure dinner is delicious tonight, so let’s talk after we eat.”
“You’re cooking yourself, Mother?”
“Of course, our eldest son has returned, so I should cook myself, shouldn’t I?”
Hmm.
Indeed, when coming home, one should eat mother’s cooking.
“So wait with Riel.”
“I understand. By the way, where’s Asta? I don’t see him.”
“Asta is with the Princess’s group.”
…Oh my god.
I silently offered a small prayer for Asta in my heart.
Princess Aine’s training is no joke.
“Well then, I’ll go to the guest room.”
“Alright. Phyllis and Kino are probably with her, but having you there will make her feel more at ease.”
“Yes.”
“Kyo.”
As I nodded and was about to leave the reception room, my father called out to me.
“I’ve heard the circumstances, but protect that girl.”
“…Of course.”
To get from the reception room to the guest room, I needed to pass through the front hall where the entrance was.
Just as I was about to call a maid to ask which guest room Riel had gone to, there was suddenly a commotion near the entrance door.
Wondering what was happening, I looked toward the entrance door.
Other servants also directed their gaze toward the entrance door.
Thump thump thump thump thump thump thump thump
A sound that didn’t give me a good feeling.
…Should I avoid it?
But I soon gave up on that thought.
I knew instinctively that this wasn’t something I could avoid.
You said she’d return around dinner time, but she’s returned incredibly early.
Bang!!
The door opened with a crash.
That’s just an expression—since the door was built to be sturdy to withstand enemy attacks, it didn’t actually break but simply opened.
What entered through the opened door was a woman.
Long, dazzling blonde hair, sharp purple eyes.
A woman wearing sturdy armor, but still exuding natural elegance from her body.
She looked around the house, and when our eyes met, she grinned.
“I heard you had returned, so I came to see. Did you perhaps come out to greet me?”
“…It’s just a coincidence.”
“Haha, you affectionless rascal. Can’t you show a bit more endearing behavior and cherish this disciple?”
“Commander Gareth is enough to cherish you, Your Highness.”
Aine Gine Palaginya.
The second princess of the Palaginya Kingdom and a magic swordsman who leads several knight orders and magic corps at the forefront.
For me, she was a disciple who shared the same teacher, Count Wentos.
