Chapter 109 - You Came Just in Time
Chapter 109 You Came Just in Time
Xiaolu said to Hua Yanyan sternly, “Ms. Hua Yanyan, stop talking nonsense or we will accuse you of libel!”
Hua Yanyan snorted and said, “I’ve already heard about that. Unfortunately, no one recorded a video at the time! Xiaolu, I just can’t bear that you appeared with such a loose woman. She will have an adverse effect on your image because she’s so dirty!”
Weiwei felt that her heart was entirely broken. With extreme torment, she burst into tears, covering her face with her hands, and ran to the students’ dormitory.
Xiaolu looked back at Long Xi hurriedly and said, “I’ll catch up to her!” Then he ran after her.
On seeing this, Long Xi and Yu Lanjie looked at each other and nodded knowingly.
They had the same idea: Give Hua Yanyan a lessen to vent anger for poor Weiwei.
Hua Yanyan walked in arrogantly. Almost drooling over the delicious cooking before her, she took up a big dish and a great deal of food and then wolfed it down, totally disregarding her image.
All of a sudden, the lights went out and the auditorium was plunged into darkness.
Hua Yanyan stopped moving her hands and looked around.
Long Xi took the opportunity to play a trick on her.
The people all asked each other with curiosity. The auditorium was inundated with whispers.
At this moment, there came a beautiful melody from a violin in the dark.
Almost everyone set off searching for the source of the sound. Then a beam of white light flashed on the stage. Melodious singing resounded, accompanied by the violin. The crowd in the auditorium suddenly fell silent.
Long Xi cast her eyes to the stage, where she saw Yu Lanjie singing peacefully with white light surrounding her. She was dressed in blue, and her hair was swinging, making her look like a princess from the Avatar tribe.
Yan Wangchuan was playing the violin behind the white light, focused and handsome as if nobody were around him.
The scene was peerlessly beautiful.
The song sang by Yu Lanjie was one that Long Xi had never heard before, but its melody sounded familiar to her. It was adapted from Love of Sorrow, renamed Prisoner of Love.
The lyrics were graceful but dismal: “My beloved maiden, let me see you once again; just a glance, because a glance equals forever…”
The lyrics were written by Yan Wangchuan himself.
The beautiful singing and the melody from the violin were like a magic spell, which bewitched the students, attracting them to walk into the auditorium in spite of themselves.
The bustling campus became tranquil all of a sudden, leaving nobody but the crying Weiwei, and Xiaolu, who tried every means to solace her, under the white poplar near the dormitory building.
In the auditorium, the melody broke people’s hearts. Everyone was thrilled by it.
There was silence in the auditorium after the performance, you could even hear a pin drop.
Then the lights went on. It was not until that moment did the students come back to their senses from the enchantment, then they began applauding vigorously.
A girl said, “He deserves to be a music talent. I heard that the song was written and composed by Wangchuan himself!”
A boy said, “Is that Yu Lanjie from our class? That girl was always silent, I didn’t know that she could sing so well. She amazed the world with a single brilliant feat!”
Hearing that boy’s words, Hua Yanyan said furiously, “She amazed the world with a single brilliant feat? I should say that she ‘scared he world’!” “Why? How did this wimp Yu Lanjie manage to be in the limelight?”
Then she noticed that the students around her were staring at her hair. Some of them were sniggering, covering their mouths with their hands, while some even pointed at her, making some comments.
She touched her hair. “Gee? Why are there cream cakes in my hair?”
She took out a small mirror from her handbag, looked in it, and got her nose out of joint!
There were so many cream-cake crumbs in her hair!
Infuriated, she screamed, “Who? Who did this?”
Long Xi had already been keeping a distance from her before the lights went on. Therefore, she would suspect anyone except Long Xi.
Hua Yanyan had no choice but to go back to her dormitory to wash her head.
Seeing Hua Yanyan leave, Yu Lanjie held up her thumb at Long Xi stealthily, which meant “well done”!
Long Xi said, “You gave an excellent performance! How long have you been practicing it, I mean, secretly?”
Yu Lanjie looked shy as she whispered, “Anyhow, he would practice playing the violin in the music room every day, so I just practiced with him!”
Yan Wangchuan said, “I’ve decided to play this song when I take part in the art exam. I will wear headphones, play the violin, and sing the song. What do you think of this?”
Long Xi said, “That will not only help you show your talent in playing the violin and singing but also your attainments in composition and writing lyrics. Oh! What a nice plan!”
Yan Wangchuan smiled. “It was Lanlan’s idea. Actually, Lanlan is talented, too!”
With a smile, Long Xi pretended to be chilled, then said, “Stop displaying your affection in public, ok? I’m single tonight!”
At this time, dance music rang out. Yan Wangchuan saw a boy wearing an ancient swordsman’s suit walking toward Long Xi. He said to her with a smile, “I’m afraid you won’t be single soon!”
“Long-Long Xi, would you dance with me?” the boy came over and asked Long Xi shyly.
Long Xi was somewhat embarrassed. She looked at her bashful classmate, not knowing how to decline.
This boy was the vice-monitor, who had secretly been in love with Long Xi for a long time.
At that very instant, Long Xi was held at her waist by someone who was behind her. Then there was a familiar voice that came to her from above her head. “She would refuse in her heart because she has promised me that she will only dance with me tonight. You can leave now.”
Shen Chen was about to try a second time but blushed all of a sudden when he saw Mo Kun’s aggressive look. He cast his eyes over Long Xi like a thief who had been spotted and ran away hastily.
Long Xi let out a sigh of relief.
She turned back, looking at Lord Mo Kun, who was dressed up as a pirate captain.
He was wearing a pirate captain’s hat and fake dreadlocks, his right eye hiding behind a patch, on which there was a glittering star.
“You came just in time.” Long Xi patted herself on her chest. Looking at Shen Chen, who had run away, she lifted up her eyebrows. “You were a little impolite, weren’t you?”
“Did you want to accept his invitation?” Mo Kun lowered his head to move close to Long Xi’s ear and asked in a low voice.
“Um… Of course not. But, I would have declined him in a more tactful manner by myself. You told me you were busy and wouldn’t come, didn’t you?” Long Xi asked.
Mo Kun replied, “I missed you!”
In outsiders’ eyes, the way they stood made them look as intimate as a couple.
Mo Kun looked around with his “one eye” to claim his sovereignty in silence, warning those boys who “had evil intentions” for Long Xi.
Among these boys, there was Yan Wangchuan.
Looking at Long Xi, who smiled like a flower in another man’s arms, Yan Wangchuan felt his heart being broken, as prominent veins were exposed on his forehead. But he had to show a forced smile in a decent way.
He found that he had been clenching his fists the whole time, so he loosened them for fear that Mo Kun might see the rip.
That should have been his girl, but he had betrayed her relentlessly. This was the punishment for this and he lost a girl that he should have cherished the most!
Meanwhile, the girl was now giggling in another man’s arms in his face, never conceiving of his sorrow!
His mind was preoccupied with love and hatred. He was in love with Long Xi in his heart, but at the same time, he hated her with all his soul!
The next melody was a tango named One Step Beyond. It was from Argentina and had been favored by tango aficionados for its melody and style.
Xiaolu kept his promise, making use of his breaks to teach the tango to Long Xi. One Step Beyond was the exact melody he had played with his phone.
Mo Kun gestured for Long Xi to dance, while the latter, with a decent and bewitching smile, stepped onto the dancing floor and started dancing.
Long Xi had learned how to dance the tango, so she was much more confident.
But Mo Kun learned this by watching. Inevitably, he seemed unfamiliar with the movements and was a little out of step.
Long Xi taught him as she danced, which meant body contact was unavoidable during the process.
Mo Kun frowned and asked, “Did Xiaolu teach you the same way?”
Long Xi said, “Could you be a little less envious?”
Mo Kun said, “No!”
Long Xi said, “You’re so annoying!”
All of a sudden, there came the most passionate part of the melody. Long Xi, who had been spinning with Mo Kun, found Mo Kun loosen his right hand, which had been holding her. She slid backward on the slippery dance floor like a lost kite.
“Ah!” Long Xi cried in a low voice, falling back as she had lost control of her body. She looked at Mo Kun for help. “Mo Kun…”
Seeing Long Xi’s pathetic look, Mo Kun held his dancing partner within a few nimble steps, jumping and spinning.
The two kept that posture, one was looking up blankly, the other looked down lovingly. They looked into each other’s eyes, where love was sparked.
Mo Kun tightened his hands and pulled Long Xi into his arms.
“I was frightened.” After coming back into his arms, Long Xi took a few deep breaths, her heart still fluttering with fear. She grumbled, “Don’t you know I’m a terrible dancer? Why did you loosen your hand suddenly?”
“I just tried to teach you a lesson, so you will not dare to speak to me that way,” Mo Kun said.
Staring at his eyes, which were as dark as black holes, Long Xi was in a trance for a moment. Then she showed the whites of her eyes to Mo Kun and grumbled, “You’re really a big jealous devil…”
“Hmm, I admit it, I am,” Mo Kun replied unexpectedly, looking serious.
Long Xi was dumbfounded and said, “Shall we continue?”
Mo Kun replied, “Sure!”
They started dancing again.
As a dancing partner, it should be said that Mo Kun was quite capable of learning because before long he was able to keep in step with Long Xi.
After the run-in with each other at the beginning, their steps coordinated with each other’s nicely as if they had been connected, which helped them give full play to their a little awkward dancing.
They danced to three melodies successively. During the third melody, Xiaolu walked into the auditorium, searching for Long Xi, only to find Long Xi and Mo Kun dancing on the dance floor. He couldn’t help feeling disappointed.
Long Xi forgot everything else as she was fully absorbed in dancing.
In Xiaolu’s eyes, Long Xi was a little awkward in her steps when she danced, but nothing could cover her radiance!
By the time the third melody stopped, Long Xi was tired. Holding her hand, Mo Kun walked with her off of the dancing floor.
Xiaolu went over and said, “Weiwei is fine now. She has gone to the dormitory. Master Xi, I just made a call to the headquarters of French Fengyun Men’s Wear. They told me after enquiring that your work was ragged when they received it.”
