Sweet Chief Secretary

Chapter 494 - You Treat Shen Yan Unfairly

Chapter 494 You Treat Shen Yan Unfairly

Xia Yu made a hum and said good morning to him. As they were grown-ups, they didn’t need to be awkward.

After they washed their faces and rinsed their mouths, Aunt Ma had cleaned up the sitting room roughly, but the smell of alcohol still remained in the air although the window was open.

“Miss Xia, what happened to Young Master Yan last night? Why did he drink so much?” Aunt Ma knew that Shen Yan drank. She had wanted to call Xia Yu, but she saw Shen Yan calling her. So, Aunt Ma just waited for Xia Yu to come over before she went to sleep without worry.

“Last night his company had a party. But he was called away halfway. I don’t know what happened to him as well.” Xia Yu shook her head, looking at the back of Shen Yan.

Though Shen Yan didn’t tell her, she could guess it roughly. It must be his family who made him so angry.

Sometimes, Xia Yu also felt sympathy for Shen Yan. He left everything alone and ran about everywhere to collect evidences for Shen Mo while Shen Mo did not feel grateful to him at all and even played tricks in the dark. Xia Yu really admired Shen Yan’s leniency. She would have been devastated if it were her.

Hearing Xia Yu’s words, Aunt Ma dropped the topic because she dared not to poke her finger into his business. She turned to put the breakfast on the table quickly.

After breakfast, Shen Yan sent Xia Yu to work first. In the car, when he was concentrating on driving, he suddenly turned to look at Xia Yu and asked, “Did I say anything strange after I was drunk last night?”

“You said that you loved me very much and asked me not to leave you.” Last night, Shen Yan did say a lot to her, but Xia Yu didn’t want to mention it, so she just downplayed the key points and said something unimportant.

That was all? Shen Yan’s face stiffened. But since Xia Yu didn’t want to say, he decided not to inquire anymore. He pursed his lips tightly without saying a word, and he looked at her with complicated eyes.

“Didn’t you? It seems that you said so just because you were drunk. Never mind. I’ll make you fall in love with me.” Xia Yu smiled and said.

Hearing Xia Yu’s words, he reached out his hand to caress her head lovingly. “Of course, I did say so. You know how I treat you.”

Shen Yan left after he sent Xia Yu to Ruyi Tower. But Xia Yu felt that she couldn’t focus her mind on working, so she had to get the manager to do all the tasks.

Fortunately, the manager had been taking charge of Ruyi Tower, so he finished these tasks methodically.

Xia Yu’s mind was full of what Shen Yan said to her last night, which really made her begin to disdain Shen Mo, First Young Master of Shen Family, who used nasty and mean tricks in order to defeat Shen Yan, regardless of the interests of the company.

“Miss Xia, Old Madame wants to have a word with you.” Secretary Yang called her when she was thinking.

“OK.” Xia Yu agreed at once because she was curious about what Old Madame was going to say.

“I am right at the opposite of Ruyi Tower. You can take my car.” Secretary Yang said and then hung up.

How considerate she was! Xia Yu stood up and walked outside. Coming to the door, she frowned and looked around, finding a silver-gray car beside the road, in which Secretary Yang was sitting and looking at Xia Yu with sharp eyes.

“Tell her that I have nothing to talk with her.” Seeing Secretary Yang’s expression in the eyes, Xia Yu suddenly changed her mind and decided not to go there with her.

Recalling Shen Yan’s condition last night, Xia Yu was sure that Old Madame was going to give her a warning or threaten and lure her today.

“Miss Xia, please don’t push me into a dilemma.” Seeing that Xia Yu was going to leave, Secretary Yang got out of the car in a hurry and tried to stop her. “I’m begging you. Old Madame will be disintegrated mentally if you don’t come to see her today.”

“Oh? So, I’m very important to her.” There was a sneer on Xia Yu’s lips.

“Miss Xia, our Old Madame is over eighty years old. Could you please understand the feelings of an octogenarian? Just go there with me.” Secretary Yang said politely and humbly to Xia Yu and didn’t dare to treat Xia Yu as arrogantly as before.

Perhaps, Xia Yu was moved by Secretary Yang’s pleading, or she really wanted to talk to Old Madame. She finally got into Secretary Yang’s car and was taken to a place by Secretary Yang soon.

It was not the old house of Shen Family, but another property of Shen Family. Xia Yu had never been here before. After they got out of the car, Xia Yu followed Secretary Yang and was led to the front of Old Madame by her.

“Secretary Yang, you just go out first. I want to have a word with Xia Yu alone.” Old Madame said to Secretary Yang. Then Secretary Yang left and closed the door of the room after she replied with “okay”.

There were only Xia Yu and Old Madame in the room. “Xiao Yu, have a seat.” Old Madame said.

Xia Yu sat down on the chair opposite Old Madame. She looked up at her and asked, “Old Madame, what did you ask me to come here for?”

“Old Madame? Xiao Yu, even though there are some misunderstandings between you and Shen Yan, we still have a good relationship with your family. How could you address me like this?” Old Madame was not satisfied with the way Xia Yu called her and frowned at once.

“Sorry, Granny. I was wrong.” Xia Yu apologized hurriedly.

Old Madame sighed and then said, “Fine. I know you have an opinion of me, thinking that I have a preference for Little Mo and neglect Little Yan. But as for him, you know what he has done even if I do not mention, and he has no regard for his family at all.”

Old Madame sighed several times in a row after saying that and looked much older, which made people feel sympathy for her.

But for the fact that she was familiar with Old Madame, Xia Yu would have been deeply moved by her. However, having worked in Shen Group for over three years, she knew Old Madame’s nature well.

So, she directly overlooked Old Madame’s expression and said, “Granny, since you have mentioned them in front of me frankly and sincerely, I should share my opinions, too. Yes, I do think you have a preference for Young Master Mo and treat Shen Yan unfairly.”

As Old Madame was straightforward, Xia Yu decided to be frank, too. How could Shen Mo do that? He took the opportunity to incite Li Wen to break off an engagement with Tengfei and even directly promised that he would bear all the losses as long as Li Wen agreed when Shen Yan came to look for Xia Yu.

Luckily, though Li Wen was at odds with Shen Yan, he was frank and forthright. He told Shen Mo frankly that although he looked down upon Shen Yan, he still wanted to defeat Shen Yan in an open and aboveboard way, and he disdained such a dirty trick.

Li Wen retorted and dissed Shen Mo, but he also asked Shen Yan out at night and taunted him for a long time, which provoked Shen Yan to fight with him on the spot. After that, they went home respectively, but Shen Yan still felt furious in his heart.

He had always regarded his elder brother as his role model, but he betrayed him like this. How could he not feel frustrated? But at that moment, Old Madame called Shen Yan and scolded him badly without giving him a chance to explain.

Old Madame spoke harshly and depicted Shen Yan as a heinous bastard who had no regard for his family on the phone. Xia Yu witnessed with her own eyes that Shen Yan almost died of intoxication, so she said to Old Madame in a harsh tone, too.

Hearing Xia Yu’s words, Old Madame forced a smile and said, “Xiao Yu, you only see that I hold him down, but didn’t you see what he did? What Little Mo has done is extreme indeed, but he just wants to get the position of President. However, Little Mo is trying to let his brother be doomed eternally.”

Old Madame began to be carried away by her emotions. Considering that Xia Yu knew all these things, she just said explicitly and outspokenly, “Xiao Yu, Little Mo made a mistake in the past, but even his Uncle Ning decided to let him off. Why should Shen Yan, as his brother, put Shen Mo on the road to ruin just to defeat him completely?”

Pouring so many words in one breath and being too thrilled, Old Madame had to pause and had a break. Seeing that her face was very red, Xia Yu quickly poured her a glass of water and brought it to her.

But Old Madame didn’t drink. Instead, she declined it by waving her hand at Xia Yu, so Xia Yu had to put it on the tea table beside her. Old Madame went on saying, “I know I’m selfish. But since their father died, I only have them beside me. I have only one wish that they can live a safe and happy life.”

“Granny, have you ever thought about Ningjing’s father? Ningjing was his only relative in the world, and she died without rhyme or reason. He must have been very sad in his mind.” Seeing that there were tears in Old Madame’s eyes, Xia Yu handed her a tissue. This time, Old Madame took it from her and wiped off her tears. “How lonely Uncle Ning must have been all these years! Don’t you feel sympathy for him, Granny?”

Old Madame shed tears again when hearing the words of Xia Yu. “Yes, I also blame myself. No one wants such a thing to happen. But we’ve lost her. Do we have to lose another one?”

Old Madame also felt uncomfortable all these years. Especially when Ningjing’s death anniversary was coming, she lost her sleep almost all nights because her mind was full of Ningjing’s smiling face.

She also blamed herself, but she could not place righteousness above family loyalty and hand over her grandson.

“After such a tragedy happened, Little Mo almost lost his hope of life and had wanted to confess his crime, but I and his mother pleaded him on our knees not to do so. He is not a coward. He wants to shoulder his responsibility. But I am the most selfish person who wants to prepare a perfect successor for Shen Family.”

Old Madame cried her heart out, which made Xia Yu feel sympathy for her, so she held back her blame and said, “Granny, even though it is the truth, Young Master Mo shouldn’t have suppressed Shen Yan by dirty tricks again and again.”

“Little Mo has gone too far indeed. I can blame him for these things. However, Xiao Yu, could you please not bring out the truth?” Old Madame caught Xia Yu’s hands suddenly. She held Xia Yu’s hands so tightly that Xia Yu even frowned out of pain though she was over eighty years old.

“Granny, you…”

“Promise me!” Old Madame said harshly.

“Granny, release my hands first. Let me finish my words first before you decide whether to bring out the truth.” Xia Yu was really scared by Old Madame, so she had to calm her down by saying so.

As long as Xia Yu agreed, everything would be fine. As for the truth, she did not want to mention at all. Old Madame released Xia Yu’s hands and sat down on the side. “Xiao Yu, I will give you a reward if you compromise. Rest assured. I can give you anything you want.”

Old Madame took out a file package. “This is all my shares. As long as I sign to transfer it to Little Yan, he will become the largest shareholder as well as the President of the company.”

Considering that Shen Yan had all the evidence related to Shen Mo, Old Madame just wanted to ensure Shen Mo’s safety at this time, so she decided to give the position of President to Shen Yan.

Old Madame really had a deep misunderstanding about Shen Yan. Certainly, Shen Yan was fighting for the position of President, so Old Madame wanted to exchange Shen Mo’s safety with it, which could be a shortcut.

Now as long as Xia Yu gave a nod, Old Madame would sign, and the competition would be over.
