She was a lot stronger than she’d been when she took out the undead force’s generals, but Mila didn’t think that meant killing the Pink Ursa below her would be easy. None of those generals had been hunting much, all level one or two, and the swordswoman and knight had been nearly frozen by Aalam before she got there and were subsequently affected by his aura and blood.
The only one she’d truly killed on her own had been the mage, and that had been a favorable match up. His vitality and toughness were low, and he hadn’t had a detection skill, at least not a passive one, so Mila had been able to get the drop on him and make use of the overpowered nature of her artifact.
The Pink Ursa in the forest below, on the other hand, was a warrior. And he was confident enough to go out to hunt by himself even with other forces relatively nearby. It wouldn’t be a good idea to underestimate him.
Still, the terrain suited her. The trees in the forest cast a lot of shadows, which would heighten the effects of both her illusions and stealth capabilities, and she was 30 meters off the ground and over 200 meters away from him.
She also didn’t have to worry about other enemies nearby, unlike with most of her fights since reaching F rank, so she could fight like she wanted to.
Transforming the Twin Dragons into its double pistols form, she used Artifact Enhancement to boost the conductivity effect of her weapons and charged up two shots. Then, using her Law Egg of Obfuscation to make the energy of her shots nearly undetectable, she pointed both pistols towards the man’s chest and fired.
Covered by the effects of Blur infused with her Law Egg of Obfuscation, she then used Second Self to create an illusion of her in the same place and jumped to another tree, all the while watching her opponent.
She expected the man to be hit by both shots and survive due to high Toughness, but that’s not what happened. As soon as her shots were within 30 meters of the man, he seemed to notice, and he quickly side stepped.
Then, at a speed Mila had only ever seen from E ranks in the third tutorial challenge, he charged toward the tree Mila had just vacated.
She was still in the air when he got within 50 meters of her, about 25 meters up in the air, and, even with her Blur skill empowered by her Law Egg of Obfuscation covering her and making her nearly invisible, she saw his eyes turn away from where she’d left her illusionary self to look right at her as he changed the direction of his charge.
Thanks to the teachings of the various legacies stored in the Twin Dragons and conversations with Nana Xara, she’d learned a few things from this brief exchange. First, his effective Agility was over double hers. Second, from the way he used his speed, his effective Perception had to be higher than hers, even with her Third Eye Princess Uniqueness. And third, he had a high grade detection skill.
She shot at him two more times, dropping her use of the Law Egg of Obfuscation and instead infusing the shots with the power of her Law Larva of the Reaper, but he easily dodged both, barely slowing down.
Then she landed on the branch of the tree she’d been jumping toward and tried something different, using her Law Egg of Hologram and Second Self to create two clones jumping to other trees while she herself stayed on the branch.
The large man completely ignored her illusionary clones, indicating his detection skill could likely see through them, and qi gathered on the tip of his spear as she fired down at him.
Her shots were empowered by her Law Larva of The Reaper, but this time he completely ignored them, allowing them to hit the armor on his chest, and then his spear hit the tree with an explosion of qi.
The power of his blow, which had taken him about as much time as it would take her to fire her guns twice, utterly destroyed the tree’s base, breaking the tree in half and pushing the bottom half of the tree’s upper part, upon which she still stood, backward with the speed of a train. This caused the top of the tree, and thus Mila, to move toward him and he prepared another qi empowered blow aimed right at her.
Mila moved her body and jumped off the back of the tree, leaping away, but he followed her, and Mila realized she only had one chance. She grabbed the back of her dress with Telekinesis and pulled herself up as fast as she could, until she was 100 meters above the ground, and only then did she stabilize herself by changing Telekinesis to instead push up on her feet to keep her in the air.
“The Pink Ursa’s power is far more than advertised,” she spoke out, hiding how utterly terrified she was with a calm voice as she used her mana and Trickster’s Guise to create a new appearance behind the effects of Blur. Then she dropped Blur and all the man could see, so long as his insane Perception and high grade skill didn’t allow him to completely see through her illusion empowered by the Law Egg of Hologram, was an elf of the variety found in the Life Tree Empire.
She looked Caucasian, but with mono-lidded blue eyes and pointy ears. She didn’t have to do anything about her figure, which was good as it was basically impossible to reduce her Succubus bust with an illusion, and she only changed her face slightly to look less attractive.
Then, as she looked down at the man and he looked up at her, she used one of her other minds to scream at Nana Xara, “What the hell is this guy? He’s so fast, yet his defense is good enough to completely stop my shots empowered by an offensive Law Larva.”
Nana Xara responded at the same time as the man started speaking. “He has a defensive Law Larva and a class specializing in the spear, but it’s hard to know what else as the only skills he’s used so far are a detection skill and the Legendary grade version of the skill Power Attack.
“No matter what, though, he’s a genius who shouldn’t be working for a D rank clan, so your disguise should be surprised.”
“Is the Life Tree Empire planning on dissolving the truce?” The Pink Ursa asked, his voice as deep as his huge frame would suggest.
“No.” Mila smiled jovially and transformed the twin Dragons back into earring form, showing off the high grade of the artifact so he’d be even more likely to think she was a member of a B rank force. “There just wasn’t any information on you in the dossiers we received, so I thought I’d test you out.” She changed her smile to a lascivious one. “Any interest in a roll in the sheets once all this is done and the Life Tree Empire wins this world?”
“Your initial attack didn’t have enough power to be called a killing strike, but you still attacked me, so fighting back isn’t against the rules of the truce.” The man’s fuchsia eyes were calm as still water, not reacting at all to her flirting. “But you are dangerous, so it is better to not let you live while you are alone.”
With that, the man kicked off the ground and jumped high into the sky. It wasn’t enough to reach her, but Mila quickly used Telekinesis to grab the back of her dress and drag herself another 50 meters back horizontally just to be safe.
Then her caution was rewarded. The man activated a movement skill when he reached the zenith of his jump, pushing off the air with his foot, and, had she not moved away, he would have been able to stab her, as he was moving with nearly double the speed he’d had on the ground.
The man then started to chase her through the sky, and he was way faster than she could move with Telekinesis.
“What the hell, Nana Xara!” Mila was truly panicking by this point. “How do I not die?”
