Cooking with Kai (174)
After making it back inside the castle, Ezekial went off to do... Whatever he normally does, leaving Kai all alone in the process.
Kai didn't mind though, he had gotten used to wandering that castle by himself and by now he was able to make his way around it without getting lost.
Still, even though he had spent a month here, he hadn't really explored that much of the castle. There was the floor his bedroom was on, this current floor that he entered and exited the castle from and the floor with that mini library that probably couldn't even be called a library.
He hadn't been down to the floors that were made out of ice, and he knew they existed because he had seen that the stairs continued going down even after getting off on the main floor. He wasn't going to risk anything though, he had no reason to stick his nose where it shouldn't be.
It's not like he wasn't curious though, like what could possibly function in a room completetly made out of ice?
Deciding that he may as well get some dinner before heading back to his room, Kai made his way to the kitchen while whistling to himself softly.
Because of the fact that he and Ezekial were out for most of the day and ended up missing majority of the meals that the chefs made, Anastasia decided to give Kai special access to make whatever he wanted with anything that was present.
It wasn't something that he was expecting, but it's not like he was against it, he didn't mind cooking after all.
Once in the kitchen, Kai put on one of the aprons hanging on the back of the door and grabbed all of his ingredients.
A bit of some strange looking broccoli, a carrot that was more red rather than orange, something that resembled soy sauce but was called joy sauce, and a couple of other things that he could probably throw into the dish to make it taste nicer.
Taking out a cutting board, Kai gave his fingers a quick stretch before masterfully cutting the carrot into different pieces. The training in his wrists really was too valuable for someone like him, especially since it helped with everyday things.
After chopping up the carrot and preparing all the other ingredients, Kai got to making a really good stir-fry.
It was something that he made quite often back on Earth. It was easy and tasty, what more could you ask for?
After putting everything in the wok, Kai watched it all cook as he took sips from the glass of water that he had gotten beforehand. Normally, he would go on his phone while doing this part, but that was sadly something that he wasn't able to do anymore.
The sweet aroma of the stir-fry started filling the room. All the chefs were done for the day, so he was the only one who got to smell it, but that only made him even more hungry.
He had been out all day with Ezekial. They had to leave early to find a bear to hunt, then they had to stalk it to learn its routes and what it was like. Then when Ezekial finally decided it was time to ambush it, they had to hide in the snow for over an hour because the bear decided to take a little nap.
It wasn't exactly what Kai would call a perfect day, but it could have been much worse than what it was, especially if the bear decided to move its feet a little to the right while walking and end up trampling on him or Ezekial.
Once the stir-fry was cooked, Kai put it into a bowl and while it was cooling he washed some of the utensils he used to cook and then cleaned the chopping board. The wok was still too hot to clean, so he had to wait until after his dinner to do that.
Sitting down at one of the small tables in the corner of the kitchen, Kai began to eat his dinner. While he wouldn't call himself the best cook in the world, he was at least able to cook noodles and vegetables properly.
It was a little strange though, even though he ate proper meals every day, he always felt strangely hungry whenever he woke up. He also woke up with a strange taste in his mouth sometimes, but that always went away after having a glass of water. Kai just chalked all that down to the foreign food though.
After having his dinner, Kai made sure to clean up and put everything back the way it was when he entered the kitchen. It really was a nice kitchen, it would have been incredibly expensive to build back on Earth, another testament to how the rich would always be rich.
Sighing, Kai let out a yawn as he exited the kitchen. It was right beside the painting that the stairs were hidden behind, so it didn't take him long to get to the floor that his bedroom was on.
After stepping out of the painting of Castillian, Kai's eyes widened slightly as he caught sight of a familiar figure just walking around the corner.
"Oh, hey Ana, how are you?"
Kai had long given into the older woman's words. To be honest, it only made the situation more awkward when he called the Queen her actual name, so he gave up and just started calling her the nickname she wanted to be called.
"Ah, Kai, you have returned. How did your hunting go?"
Kai shrugged as he started walking beside the older woman. He had long gotten used to her company, so he no longer got as flustered when with her.
He still thought that she was attractive though, that fact being amplified even more by the dress she had on. It was a light pink one and was much tighter than the average dress she wore. Normally, anything below the waist of the dress would be flowy and follow on the ground behind her, but this dress clung to her legs while somehow giving her enough room to walk uninhibited.
"It went great, I managed to kill that rhino bear without Ezekial stepping in this time."
Anastasia's eyes widened slightly as a small smile formed on her lips. After resting her hands on the centre of her stomach she said:
"I see, then I guess I'll have to reward you for that next time I see you."
Kai chuckled softly as he shook his head. This wasn't the first time that Anastasia had said something like that. Over the course of the last month, she always said that she would reward Kai, but she never ended up actually doing anything. After all, the last time she even visited his room was that night.
"I'm sure you will, you're always rewarding me after all."
Anastasia lightly slapped Kai's shoulder, but quickly turned away to hide her smile when Kai turned to look at her.
"You should be treating me with respect, you know, I am Queen after all."
And to that, Kai could only roll his eyes.
"Yeah, a Queen that makes me call her Ana."
Now, it was Anastasia's turn to roll her eyes.
"Fine, fine, I see what you're playing at so I'll just stop there. After all, I'm sure that you are plenty tired after your adventures today."
She wasn't wrong, Kai was feeling kind of tired. He had a strange sleeping habit over the last month, sometimes he would sleep incredibly well and other times he felt like he hadn't slept at all, even though he had been asleep the whole night.
After walking in silence again, Kai decided to try his luck by asking Anastasia a question he had asked a couple of times but never actually gotten an answer for.
"So when are you going to tell me what your Innate Ability does? Or even just what one of your skills do?"
Kai was a little shocked when Anastasia started laughing after he finished speaking. He wondered to himself had he said something wrong, but he had asked that question a couple of times already so why was she reacting like this now?
Reaching out to pat Kai's head, Anastasia softly ran her fingers through his hair before saying.
"Oh Kai, you should know better than anyone not to reveal your skills to anyone."
After she finished speaking, Anastasia pet Kai's head one last time before pulling her hand away and continued waking.
Only Kai couldn't help but frown.
What's that supposed to mean?
Even though he had asked the question a couple of times before, Anastasia had always deflected or changed the question so this was the first time she actually gave something that could have been considered an answer.
So why did it sound so cryptic?
Sighing, Kai shook his head and began making his way back to his bedroom so he could go to sleep after a long day's work.
After all, life was great right now.
