Chapter 101: Omnipotent and Omniscient Universal Laws
Rachel's main body frowned.
The calculation of the infinite universal law has failed so far.
The task is not easy.
It has been less than a million years, but after tens of thousands of years, she can tell that even after a trillion years, she still will most likely fail.
She only has around 10,000 infinite complete laws. Calculating a universal law usually takes more than 1,000,000 complete laws; even then, it's difficult.
To try to calculate a universal law with only 10,000 complete laws ... only Rachel is bold enough to try it.
But there is no other choice.
Discovering new infinite complete laws is difficult; getting one in a billion years is good luck. Attempting to discover more in a short time is a non-starter.
There is no way to improve the chances; infinite complete laws are very close to 'the creation,' which typical luck, even protagonist luck, cannot affect.
Luck based on rank 14 spells may improve the chances of discovering infinite complete laws, but Rachel has no way of casting rank 14 spells.
Rachel recently found two missing pieces, Dream and Illusions infinite complete laws.
These two are excellent luck and massively improve her odds.
Because they were missing places, areas she lacked.
To reverse engineer the infinite universal law, a broad collection of all sorts of infinities is essential; without Dream and Illusion, Rachel could have only tried using other laws to replace them and, in the process, massively increase computing costs.
Her 10,000 infinite laws are now well-rounded, covering nearly all areas.
She has elemental infinities, like infinite water, fire, lightning, etc; she has infinite reality, numbers, space, time, and many less broad ones, like hot water, snow, ice, fire with a temperature of 2100, wind with a speed of 123km/h, and many more alike.
She still lacks some infinite complete laws.
She doesn't have infinite reflections, which she really wants; she lacks infinite light, smoke, words, and many more.
If she had those, calculating the infinite universal law would have been much easier.
"I'm going to have to make more computers!" she thought.
Without those infinite laws, she could only strengthen her computing ability. She can use what she has to infer what she lacks.
The process is complicated, so even world computers have difficulty calculating. World computers are the best; throughout the entire universe, aside from rank 14s, she is confident there is no better computer anywhere.
She will also use her connections with Lin Ming to see if Anti-Rachel has any. The members definitely have, but those are secrets of powerful forces. Lin Ming cannot just take them.
Maybe he can when Anti-Rachel truly unifies, but not for now.
Rachel initially wanted to keep this private. Even a mention will expose her intentions. Lin Ming is not an idiot.
But there is no other choice.
She will have a very difficult time calculating the infinite universal law with only 10,000 infinite complete laws.
She needs to pay Lin Ming to satisfy him, but it would be worth it if she could get infinite laws.
Aside from Lin Ming, the matter must remain a secret; rank 13s will know Rachel's intentions at a glance.
If hostile rank 13s know, they can create trouble. She can win but doesn't want distractions.
She already has a few critical universal laws and is working on a giant formation. She has universal laws such as Random, plus, minus, accurate, etc. These broad universal laws are unsuitable for fights but extremely useful in formations.
She also wished for other universal laws, although those are desperate attempts.
She is looking for omnipotent and omniscient universal laws.
Omnipotent universal law can act as any other universal law. Its inclusion in any rank 13 spell will boost its power to the peak!
It might have other uses, but Rachel could only calculate that much.
Omniscient universal law is the supercomputer; it is unimaginably helpful in calculations; with it, Rachel would have easily succeeded in calculating any universal law she wanted.
It's like wisdom complete law, but much stronger.
Rachel has wisdom universal law.
It is the core that connects the computer worlds; she has the best computers partly because of the wisdom universal law.
Rachel started contacting Lin Ming and, at the same time, perfecting the formation.
She can do many things at once.
...
Savior was sitting in an ordinary room. The room was unworthy of an influential person, but he chose it purposefully.
Savior considers himself a kind person dedicated to improving ordinary people's lives.
The meeting tens of thousands of years ago was the faithful day. After that day, the corporate boards changed. The final changes were better than he asked for.
First, 51% of each corporate board must be elected by the intelligent population on a proportional representation basis plus a ranked voting basis.
As for how the rest would be selected, it depends on the corporation.
Second, it was enshrined in the world's rules that a majority is supreme on the boards. Before, many corporate rules set conditions such as a supermajority for a change. The new law invalidated all of that.
The board's seats also expanded to one board seat per every million intelligent beings. It resulted in some corporations having boards with millions/billions of members.
Then, there were diversity rules.
A proportional percentage of each species, race, and gender must be on the board. However, this diversity law was not absolute. It only applied to the 49% of the board, which was not directly elected. The elected part was a democracy, so nobody could mandate diversity rules.
However, if the 51% elected were all women, then the remaining 49% that weren't directly elected must be men. The other 49% must be chosen in a way that helps make the board as representative as possible.
Some boards later decided to hold elections even for the 49%, but the diversity requirement for the 49% remained.
As a result, two separate elections will be held in those corporations that elect all their board. One for the 51%, in which anyone can run. The other, for the 49%, happens after the 51% election, in which only unrepresented groups can run.
It led to problems. Some say if a population of humans wants to choose elves as their representatives, then where is the problem? They trust the person; the species is not important.
In general, the changes in the lives of the people were significant! In most places, the lives of the people improved.
But the situation was not perfect. There is still death, sadness, and disappointment.
One thing that definitely declined sharply is corporate profits: they fell precipitously.
Rank 12s became dissatisfied but decided to give it at least a million years. After all, Greenlong is sent here by the faceless man.
...
Savior wrote a letter, sealed it, and then sent it away.
He is still looking for a love interest. Unfortunately, everyone he has been with until now cheated on him.
This latest girl he befriended looks genuine; he is hopeful.
Then, he started to work.
His work these days involve reading letters from around the world.
He is famous!
Everyone knows he is responsible for the 'great change.'
At first, most CEOs hated him, but as the newly elected boards dumped those CEOs, Savior became a kind of hero, a legend.
Now, in the entire world, aside from Rank 12s, he has the most authority. He is the most popular person; one word from him can topple any CEO. Nobody wants to anger him.
Of course, he wouldn't misuse his influence. Until now, he has always done what he thought was right.
He opened a letter and nodded. It was a letter about the condition of Hype Corporation.
After the changes, the Hype board changed significantly. Savior could no longer appoint whoever he wanted.
But, the first batch of elected board members were all his hardcore fans; they were even more loyal than the original board. But he resigned.
He wanted to look at the world as a whole, not just one corporation.
In the letter, it was written in detail about a financial crisis. They begged him to return and fix the mess.
Hype spent and borrowed too much! Money can't grow on trees. Or rather, in this magic world, it can, but nobody bothered to do it for Hype.
This letter basically begs Savior to cultivate tree money for them.
Savior sighed.
He became more certain. He was about to suggest a few revisions to the corporate laws.
The most consequential change he is planning is borrowing limits. Many corporations went bankrupt after the great change. They wanted to help the poor, so they borrowed until they couldn't pay back. In the process, they made borrowing more expensive for everyone else.
As for who lent most of the money? The previous CEOs and board members.
Some corporations tried to expropriate that wealth, but Savior personally stopped them. He doesn't like those CEOs, but he is principled.
The government, or the corporation, in this case, can never be allowed just to take things.
Those CEOs were hated, so people supported the expropriation. But, the problem is the precedent that will be set. Savior wanted to set the opposite precedent: even if one is very hated, you can't just expropriate.
Instead, Savior convinced them to institute much smarter inheritance, income, and wealth taxes written in neutral terms, not targeting anyone.
An inheritance tax would tax all wealth of a person who dies by 50 percent. Inheritance tax doesn't work against immortals, and against Rank 9s, it takes a long time to bring in big money.
Income tax taxes money one earns. It's flat for everyone at 30 percent of all income.
In practice, however, poor people are eligible for free food, education, etc., so they receive far more than they pay in taxes.
For wealth tax, a small percentage of the total wealth will be taxed each year. It's less than 0.1 percent but adds up after thousands of years.
These policies differed slightly from corporation to corporation, but as they all had one source, Savior, they looked alike.
But none of these solved the debt issue. As corporations had more money, they spent more. Hence, the new tweak Savior is planning to limit borrowing.
The next revision is about elections.
He intended to separate the 51% from the 49%.
The 51% will be elected with proportional representation and ranked voting, and voters can elect anyone. He would name them Great Board and give them the sole power to pass budgets.
The 49% would be renamed the Council of Elders. It must mirror the population of the corporation, whether in terms of race, species, or gender makeup. The Council of Elders could not block budgets but must approve any other law and policy change.
For example, if a policy modifying housing assistance eligibility laws passes the Great Board, it must also be passed by the Council of Elders.
However, if the Great Board only adds or subtracts money and doesn't change any policy, then approval of the Council of Elders is not required.
Savior also intends to give them the sole power to confirm judges and all CEO appointments.
Savior will also suggest giving corporations more leeway, making many current fixed laws more flexible. For example, he will suggest allowing corporations to choose to have fewer board members, perhaps one per 100,000,000 million.
The great number of board members has caused problems.
Savior wrote and sent all his suggestions to the World Corporate Governance Board.
...
Michael is an ordinary worker employed by an iron ore extracting company for many years. He has a family, and they demand money.
However, with his job, it isn't easy to earn much. He has applied for all kinds of benefits already, seeking food assistance, clothes assistance, education assistance, etc.
Although education is free, children still need to be educated at home, and parents have many things to teach them. The education assistance is to help with that.
Recently, it was announced that the election is for two different bodies: the Great Board and the Council of Elders.
He didn't care much and decided to vote as always.
He always votes for the Family Party, which advocates for policies that make the lives of parents with children easier.
He went into the polling booth and voted for two things: one, for the party, and two, for the candidates of his choice, ranked.
The electoral system is not complicated.
Each participating party's paid membership chooses ten candidates for each district. Then people go and vote—one vote for the party, the other for the candidate; both ranked.
The party that eventually gets more than 50 percent is declared the winner. Then, the person among the ten who got more than 50 percent among the party's voters wins.
The total party votes are counted corporate-wide, and if their total seats are lower than their vote shares, they get extra seats.
The seats of the Council of Elders had to abide by diversity rules.
Michael voted for the Family Party up and down the ticket for the Council of Elders and the Great Board, then left and headed back home.
