Humans Shrunk 100 Times

Chapter 162: Entry

"Is there someone inside?"

He Yan turned her head in surprise to look at Chen Mu.

Unlike her own home, the gap in this door was completely sealed, airtight, and it seemed to be blocked with wooden planks.

Since the wooden planks couldn't perfectly fit the gap, they had stuffed some paper-like material into the remaining openings.

"It looks like it."

Chen Mu was also a bit surprised. According to reason, this was the fourth floor, with almost no food or water source. Even if there might be some snacks and drinks left in the office, it had been two months, and they would have probably gone bad by now.

"Perhaps there are some small packaged snacks or something?" He Yan asked after listening to Chen Mu's analysis.

"Maybe, but they will eventually run out. The location on the fourth floor means they can't go out to search for food. In that case, normal people would think about finding a base on the ground floor first."

"You can't assume that everyone is extremely rational. If they can't go downstairs and happen to have some food, it's a reasonable choice to hide here temporarily." He Yan smiled.

"You're right."

Chen Mu realized he was overthinking.

"So, do we still go in?" He Yan turned her head to ask.

"We've come this far; we can't just go back empty-handed," Chen Mu said.

"But, there must be people inside," He Yan expressed her concern.

"Let's see if we can quietly take some things and leave. It's a big room, and unless there are too many people, they might not notice. Even if they do, we can try to negotiate. We don't have to assume everyone will be hostile. Maybe they even hope to go back with us..." Chen Mu suggested.

As he spoke, Chen Mu walked to the left side of the door and pushed with his hand, but found that it wouldn't budge.

It seemed that the other side had fixed it tightly.

After exerting more force, Chen Mu realized something was wrong.

"It feels like it's secured with something."

"Secured?"

"Yeah, not with nails, but with something like glue."

Chen Mu pressed his hand against the wooden plank used to seal the entrance.

Soon, a swirling hole appeared.

As a safety measure, he quickly stepped aside, fearing that something might rush out from inside.

The interior remained very quiet.

"If I had known, I should have brought Sun Yuan with us," He Yan whispered to Chen Mu.

Chen Mu ignored her and waited for a moment. Just when he was about to move forward and take a look, He Yan stopped him.

"I'll go."

"Huh?"

"I'm faster. If there really are zombies rushing out, I'll definitely dodge faster than you."

Chen Mu was speechless, but he agreed nonetheless.

He Yan tiptoed to the small hole, only big enough for one person to crawl through, and cautiously stuck her head inside.

The wooden block used to seal the hole wasn't very thick, probably because the other party couldn't move large objects.

Soon, half of He Yan's body had already entered, and Chen Mu was ready to pull her back at any moment.

After a moment, He Yan withdrew her body.

"It's very quiet, doesn't seem like there's anyone."

"Then let's go in."

Chen Mu followed behind He Yan and crawled in.

This office was much larger than the storage room they were in, about a quarter the size of a classroom, but it looked crowded because of the clutter.

Various items and materials were scattered all over the floor, making it look like a massive garbage dump.

Both Chen Mu and He Yan had been here before.

Teacher Wan, who taught labor and technology, was an approachable elderly man with vast knowledge and a great sense of humor. He got along well with the students, and whenever he taught, everyone felt relaxed.

Because of the nature of the subject, many students would visit him after class to ask questions or chat, and the topics ranged from homemade ice cream to the launch of artificial satellites.

"I wonder how Teacher Wan is doing now," He Yan sighed with some emotion. "He used to repair my shoes."

"Repair shoes?" Chen Mu was puzzled. He didn't have much leisure time after class, so he didn't have much personal interaction with Teacher Wan.

However, in this day and age, was there still a need to repair shoes?

"Yeah," He Yan nodded and then smiled, "I remember once I lost a 100-meter race, and when I came back, Teacher Wan found me and said that the angle of the rubber on my shoes was wrong, which prevented me from fully exerting my speed."

"So, he cut the shoes for you?"

"Yeah."

"Did it work?" Chen Mu was curious.

"I don't know." He Yan laughed, "He ended up cutting my shoes too much."

"Ah?"

"He said his idea didn't work, and the next day, he bought me a new pair of shoes."

Chen Mu could imagine the awkward look of that thin, small elderly man in front of the students, and he couldn't help but smile.

"Come to think of it, we haven't seen any of the school teachers so far," He Yan suddenly brought up the issue. "We haven't even seen the cafeteria staff."

Chen Mu said, "The cafeteria was probably occupied by the zombies. The staff either died or escaped. As for the teachers..."

"What do you mean?"

"I remember Tang Jing told me that the national regulations require a teacher-student ratio of 1:12.5 for high schools. With 2000 students in our Ziwei High School, there should be around 160 staff members. But the problem is, except for the cafeteria staff, all the teachers' offices are on the second floor or above. And the survival rate in these areas was already low. I remember during the exchange activity near the playground, the principal and the teachers from the academic affairs office were there, but I don't know what happened to them."

"Is it possible that the leader of Qingbei is the principal?" He Yan suddenly became interested.

"And then, in the end, we discover that he is the evil mastermind behind everything?"

"Yeah, do you think so too?" He Yan excitedly said.

"No, you've been watching too many animated films," Chen Mu said helplessly.

"But we can't rule out that possibility," He Yan was quite dissatisfied with this man who lacked imagination.

"Oh, okay," Chen Mu obviously didn't want to discuss this boring topic.

As they spoke softly, they navigated through various materials and parts, which surprisingly gave them a sense of security.

Of course, this also brought about a problem - it was difficult to find what they needed.

Before coming, Tang Jing had told them about the lubricant they needed.

To their surprise, lubricants came in different types, each serving a different purpose. For example, D5 oil was for power systems, 9010 oil for gears, and 8300 lubricant for spring systems.

Fortunately, Tang Jing had also described the appearance and color of the oil bottles, but they didn't know exactly where to find them, so they needed to search around.

Near the windows, there was a set of office desks, but they were filled with various random model materials.

Against the wall, there was a row of glass cabinets, which, as expected, were also crammed with things.

Looking at the situation, Chen Mu was worried that the things on top might fall down.
