Chapter 99 – Examination
Sanctuary’s First.
Its complete name was Sanctuary’s First Awakened College.
It was an institution of higher education for Awakened. Here, young Awakened train their abilities and learn everything they needed to clear dungeons, fight monsters, and face the invading races.
There are other institutions like this in the first district, Sanctuary, however, Sanctuary’s First is recognized as the best, and one of the best across humanity’s 103 districts.
Thus, it’s the dream of any young Awakened to study here.
Every year, around twenty thousand young men and women take the entrance examination to Sanctuary’s First, but only one thousand students are accepted.
Only the most elite, the most talented, and the strongest students are accepted.
And today, I will take the entrance examination to enter Sanctuary’s First.
Before leaving the house, my mother fixed my clothes gently while Ley looked at me with a smile.
“Good luck, son. Don’t worry, you will do just fine.”
“Thank you, mom.”
“Good luck, brother! Also, I have a surprise for you. Look forward to it!”
I raised an eyebrow in curiosity, but Ley did not say anything else and just giggled.
“… Okay, I will look forward to it.”
Ley giggled again and kissed my cheek.
“Fight!”
I chuckled and rubbed Ley’s head before heading off to Sanctuary's First.
Actually, I’m not very nervous. Right now, I’m a Tier-Three Awakened with several skills, moreover, I have two summoned creatures with me (although Scarlet is not that powerful). As long as my performance is not disastrous, I should be able to qualify easily.
However, my goal is not just to enter Sanctuary’s First, but to show an outstanding performance and stand out from the rest of the applicants.
When I arrived at Sanctuary's First, the place was filled with young men and women that came to take the examination.
I could see expressions of nervousness, expectation, and confidence from many of them. Among them, I noticed several young men with tier three and tier four mana. They were the elite among the elite in this examination.
At that moment, someone patted my shoulder.
“Jane, you arrived.”
“Hey, Andrew. Are you ready for the examination?”
Andrew grinned with a confident expression.
“Of course. How about you.”
“What do you think?”
Both of us smiled at each other.
With our abilities, entering Sanctuary’s First was almost guaranteed. We did not need to worry about being accepted.
Thus, the two of us were pretty relaxed.
“By the way, Karime also came. Do you want to greet her?” Andrew suddenly asked.
I hesitated briefly and shook my head.
“Forget it. I’m sure she doesn’t want to see me, and I don’t want to see her either.
“Is it so?” Andrew stared at me deeply and sighed. “Well, I won’t interfere in your relationship. However, I don’t think you should stop being friends just because you broke up.”
I smiled without replying.
Just at that moment, the entrance of the campus opened.
[Applicants, please go to the classroom indicated in your registration. The examination will start in twenty minutes.]
Andrew and I looked at each other and bumped our fists.
“Good luck.”
“Don't dare to fail.”
The two of us then headed off to our respective classrooms.
The examination was divided into two parts. The first part was a written examen that tested the general knowledge of the applicants, and the second part was a practical exam that tested their combat abilities.
Finally, the score of both exams was added up and divided by two, and the first one thousand applicants were accepted.
It was a simple method, but very effective.
I entered my designated classroom and sat down in my seat. Soon, the entire classroom was filled with nervous young men and women.
When it was time to start the examen, a man entered the classroom.
“Nice to meet you. My name is Randy Denne, a Tier Six Awakened and your supervisor today. Before starting the exam, I must warn you against any attempt to cheat. Believe me, no matter what kind of skill you have, you won’t be able to cheat. Every year, we have several smartasses that think that they can outwit the system, however, I still don’t know of anyone that has succeeded.
“If you try to cheat and you are discovered, you won’t be able to retake the examen again, so think carefully first.
“You have four hours to complete the examen. If you complete it sooner, you can hand it over, however, you won’t receive extra points for that, so it’s better if you use the remaining time to make sure that your answers are right.
“Now, start.”
The examen was not easy, but it was not hard either. The problem was that you were competing against over twenty thousand people for one thousand slots, so it was necessary to take it seriously. Otherwise, getting a relatively low score in this examen could leave you outside the first one thousand even if you get an amazing score in the second test.
Fortunately, I was extensively prepared for this test. Thanks to the dreamland, I had a lot of time to study, plus, my memory has always been good, so this examen should not be a problem.
Just as I expected, I easily went through the questions. It took me less than two hours to answer all the questions, and it took me another hour to revise my answers.
After I handed over my answer sheet, I left the classroom and waited for the results. Thanks to today’s technology, the results of the test could be seen one hour after all the tests were handed over.
I just sat on a bench as I waited for the results. When the clock hit twelve o'clock, the results of the first test were given out.
I hurriedly searched for my name and sighed in relief.
- Jane Walker – 487/500 points.
I sighed in relief. It was a better score than I expected.
However, I can’t believe that I am in 53rd place even though I only gave thirteen wrong answers.
How good are the ones above me then?
Out of curiosity, I looked at the names of the top scorers, only to become stunned.
“Huh?”
At the top of the list, there were two familiar names.
- Sylvia Quin – 500/500 points.
- Ley Pham – 498/500 points.
… Why is my sister’s name there?
