Chapter 111
111 Am I Imagining Things?
When Blake saw the unknown thing flying right towards him at a speed that it only took him a couple of blinks before the unknown thing arrived right in front of his head, Blake couldn’t even fathom what would happen to him as that spell made contact with his head.
Blake wouldn’t even be angry at himself for being unable to dodge the unknown thing as it was so unimaginably fast that he couldn’t imagine anyone could ever dodge something like that, not even the huge crow demonic beasts while it was flying at full speed.
The only thing that Blake hoped to happen was that the dark earth armor that was covering his whole body, including his head, would do its job properly and prevent a hole from appearing on his skull.
And right before the unknown thing hit his body, Blake could do nothing but brace himself for impact and prepare himself for any kind of pain that he might have felt from getting hit right on his head.
However, when the unknown thing hit his body, Blake could literally feel nothing on his head or his whole body.
Literally nothing. No pain, no dizziness, not a single numbness on his body, and also not even an ounce of force had pushed him or pulled him in any way.
Blake wondered what the unknown thing really was. Where did it come from, who had sent it to him, and what it really did to him.
But before he could have more questions in his head, he suddenly heard a voice resounding in his head.
“Blake.”
.....
‘Am I imagining things?’ Blake wondered.
It was a very familiar voice, a voice that he really likes to hear as it was the voice that gave him a sense of relief and peacefulness whenever he talked with the person who had the voice.
The voice that he heard was none other than Vera’s voice.
He couldn’t have mistaken it for someone else’s. The tone and the way the voice called his name, Blake was 99.99% sure that the voice belonged to Vera.
Blake would have thought that he was imagining things, or even possibly it was his brain making things up in his last desperate moments, being chased by more than a dozen humanoid demons and after taking an unknown attack right to his skull.
But when he actually heard what the voice really had to say from start to finish, Blake knew that it most likely wasn’t his head imagining things.
“Blake. This is one of my spells. Come here. Go to your gorilla friend’s location right now.”
The voice said those words very clearly as if Vera was directly beside his ears. And there was no way Blake could have missed them despite having his ears filled with the wind blowing due to him still gliding in the air.
“That’s to be expected then...” Blake said before releasing a sigh of relief.
‘It wasn’t unusual for Vera to be able to have a spell that was able to move at literal lightning speed. There’s nothing wrong with me being unable to even try dodging it.’ Blake thought to himself before adjusting his wings so that he would glide toward Robus’ direction.
Blake didn’t find it weird that Vera was somehow able to send him a message from god knows how far away and told him to go to Robus since he had told her about his connection with Robus and how they could find each other no matter how far they were separated from each other.
Vera had actually only met Robus once back then when she asked him to introduce her to his gorilla friend.
But Blake knew that it was impossible for Vera to mistake Robus for any other gorilla demonic beast since Robus’ fur was one of a kind in the forest, and not a single gorilla in the forest had fur as dark as Robus’.
And the chance for Vera to actually meet Robus on her way was also not minuscule either as Robus was going in the direction of his home, and with such a huge body that shook the ground every time he jumped, of course, Vera would notice him if they were ever near each other.
Blake also didn’t wonder why Vera would suddenly appear near him despite it was very rare for her to even step out of her isolated space at all.
The bracelet that was given to him, although Blake didn’t know what it did since Vera never told him, he had a whole week to himself and he had several guesses about what was the use of the bracelet.
And with Vera telling him to use and activate the bracelet whenever he met a humanoid demon, that could only mean that the bracelet would do several things to respond to such a situation.
And one of those things that made sense to happen was the bracelet acting as an alarm that told Vera about the humanoid demon’s coming and also acted as a signal that told her where Blake was when he met the humanoid demons.
So without thinking much about whether his head really did imagine things or not, Blake decided to follow the directions that Vera’s voice had given him and went straight in Robus’ direction.
And of course, the mass of humanoid demons below him also followed in his direction, going straight in Robus’ direction.
The fireballs kept coming at him, and it became slightly harder for Blake to dodge them as he needed to pay close attention to the direction under him, where the humanoid demon mages were constantly casting spells and sending them toward him.
Blake could feel the connection between him and Robus was getting closer and closer as he continued gliding in the air.
Although he could feel his connection with Robus all the time without having to do anything other than feel it, there were times that his mind was fully occupied with something else that the connection just fades into the background.
And such instances were when he was trying his best to get away from the humanoid demons and also contemplating about what made him make such a blunder earlier.
But now that he was actively feeling the connection, he could feel that Robus had completely stopped moving away as if waiting for him to come, which further cements that it was really one of Vera’s spells telling him to come to Robus.
Blake knew where he should be going and approximately how far it was, but the problem was, he was starting to lose even more altitude, and he was only about a meter away from reaching the top of the trees.
Blake was about to think of several more ways to get his altitude back up such as casting another tall earth wall from one of the tops of the trees, which would require him precise timing so that his body won’t miss it, and would be risky if he ever missed since he didn’t have much time left before he really went back down into the forest.
But at the last moment, before Blake decided to do the gamble, Blake suddenly felt the connection he had with Robus had significantly gotten stronger.
And not only that, but he also saw the trees some distance in front of him began to shake slightly.
Before long, Blake soon found a huge gorilla clad in black brownish fur coming out of those shaking trees with a huge leap, arriving about 50 meters away from Blake’s position.
“Robus!” Blake shouted with happiness and relief filling his heart.
Acknowledging his friend’s happiness, Robus returned Blake’s shout with a loud roar, while also raising one of his hands in Blake’s direction.
And seeing Robus’ gesture, Blake already knew what Robus meant and what he, himself, had to do.
Abandoning his earlier thoughts of gaining altitude, Blake moved his two hands and started drawing two sets of runes with each hand.
Aiming the two spells at two relatively parallel trees some distance in front of him, Blake used the single darkness tendril spell to launch himself forward with great speed, aiming straight in Robus’ direction.
With Blake pulling the two darkness tendrils at the same time, his body began to accelerate forward with even more speed, quickly traversing the 50 meters distance between him and Robus.
And as if Robus were a professional baseball catcher, Robus predicted Blake’s trajectory and quickly adjusted his hands to catch his friend who had become a humanoid demon cannonball.
The impact of Blake’s body being suddenly caught by Robus’ huge hand was definitely a lot and could break Blake’s bones under normal circumstances.
But the dark earth armor had absorbed most of the impact and Blake only felt slight numbness all over his body when Robus grabbed his whole body with a single hand.
Blake then asked Robus what they should do next after they met each other while the humanoid demons were still hot on their tails.
But without answering Blake’s question, Robus quickly took Blake away and jumped with all his might in a single direction.
Blake was about to ask where they were going, but before his mouth could open, he found himself in a sizable clearing in the forest.
And at the back of the clearing stood the most beautiful demoness that he had ever seen and known in his entire life.
Vera was currently standing with one of her hands holding a palm-sized cube fully inscribed with demonic runes, and her other hand drawing runes on the trees beside her.
She took a glance at the incoming two creatures, one that was her student, and the other was her student’s best friend, with her student on the gorilla’s hand, and the gorilla running towards her with all his might.
