Chapter 106
106 The Three Spell Combination (1)
Having a man-sized earth spike nailed to its head, of course, it was only a matter of seconds before the bulky humanoid demon’s soul orb came out of its body.
Looking around him, Blake noticed that the greenish demon had really gone away and left its friend without even a shred of hesitation.
Even though the bulky humanoid demon’s body was lying lifelessly on the ground with an earth spike nailed to its head, the greenish demon, who had its life literally saved by the bulky humanoid demon a few moments ago, really didn’t do anything and just ran away the moment it had the chance to do so.
‘I guess it didn’t only happen with the humans. Something like this was bound to happen with species that had a certain level of intelligence to learn about their best interest.’
Blake thought as he walked closer to the dead bulky humanoid demon’s body.
It wasn’t to bury the humanoid demon’s body or to say sorry about what had happened to it, being abandoned by its friend.
Instead, Blake walked on top of the bulky humanoid body like it was a little stepping ground so that he would be able to reach its soul that was floating above its body easier.
Blake wondered how the soul would taste and whether it would also have the subtle sweet taste that the four humanoid demons’ souls had.
Remembering how the bulky humanoid demon was kind of defeated in an instant manner, and it probably wasn’t able to take all of its emotions in before losing consciousness and dying, Blake doubted that the soul would have any taste to it since his hypothesis with Vera was that the emotions were the factor that gave a soul a certain taste other than the original savory taste.
.....
But just as before, Blake decided to take his thinking to another day when he wasn’t in his current situation and where he didn’t have 20 humanoid demons on his back.
So Blake decided that he should eat the soul quickly before he continued running away and catching up to Robus.
But before Blake was about to take the soul into his hands, Blake suddenly felt a surge of nether coming from directly beneath his feet.
And being a demon mage himself, of course, he would know what it meant when nether gathered at a certain point as it was a sign of a spell that was about to manifest itself.
Blake wanted to grab the soul that was barely within the reach of his hand, but decided against it almost instantly when he felt that he didn’t have the time to do it.
Blake quickly jumped away while running nether on his wings, making his body lighter and making his dodge even faster.
Right after Blake jumped away, the ground beneath him, which means the ground beneath the bulky humanoid demon’s body, shook before green plant roots sprouted from below.
With the bulky humanoid demon’s body in the way, of course, the plant roots latched themselves onto its huge body first.
But there were many plant roots and they quickly passed over the unmoving bulky humanoid demon’s body, and went straight above it, searching for anything that they could latch themselves to.
However, with Blake already gone out of there a few seconds ago, the plant roots could find nothing but empty air.
Blake instantly recognized the familiar plant roots that he had seen before, and in the current circumstances, Blake already knew who was responsible for interrupting his quick meal time.
Blake then quickly moved his feet in haste as he searched around the area.
And then after only taking three steps, Blake finally found the culprit who had prevented him from eating his soul.
Just as he expected, a demon with greenish skin and slightly deformed physical features that made it look more like a monster compared to a human despite the name ‘human’-oid demon was standing not too far away from his location.
He didn’t see it before because of the trees blocking his view, but after circling around the area, he finally got a clear view of the greenish demon that clearly realized it had miserably failed in catching Blake off guard.
The greenish demon had learned its lesson and didn’t waste a single second as it already began writing another set of runes the moment the ambush spell that it had prepared had failed.
Blake saw all this, but despite being wary of the spell that the greenish demon was about to cast, his mind was only filled with two things.
And that was pure annoyance and outrage that he felt when he was disrupted when he was about to eat the bulky humanoid demon’s soul.
It was his first time ever being disrupted when he was about to eat the savory souls that he liked very much.
And despite not having prior experience of having his meal time interrupted, even Blake himself was quite overwhelmed by his own emotion when the fact that he was prevented from eating a soul had been registered to his mind.
Without even minding what kind of spell the greenish demon was about to cast, Blake completely ignored it and started drawing his own sets of runes while standing still, unmoving from his current place.
The greenish demon was already halfway towards finishing drawing its own spell, but Blake, with a mind so focused on making the greenish demon pay for the annoyance and outrage that he felt, drew his runes even faster than usual.
One of the runes that Blake drew was not a very familiar rune and it usually took Blake more than a second to finish it, but with his mind currently in hyper-focus mode, his fingers had become almost twice as fast in drawing the runes as he finished drawing the unfamiliar set of runes in just under a second.
Blake could finish the other rune that he was drawing with his other fingers faster than the first set of runes, but Blake intentionally finished the second rune slightly later as he wanted to make sure that the two spells worked together perfectly.
So when the greenish demon had the runes that it drew flashed and disappeared, the runes that Blake drew himself had also already flashed and disappeared into thin air.
Blake felt the nether gathering around him, more precisely to his left, near a tree beside him.
And different from the usual plant roots spell, he could feel the nether was gathering significantly faster.
However, Blake ignored it as he continued drawing one other set of runes as fast as he could before the greenish demon spell had finished manifesting.
And with his current state of mind, and the fact that it was a very familiar spell to him, Blake had miraculously achieved it.
The runes that he drew flashed and disappeared right before the roots of the tree beside him all came alive and all grew towards him.
It was already too late for him to dodge them, but with the dark earth armor, Blake was confident to take any kind of hit straight with his body.
And with how tough the dark earth armor was, Blake’s decision was correct as the tree roots couldn’t do anything other than incapacitate his movement. His body was still totally unharmed.
On the other side of the fight, the same thing couldn’t be said to the greenish demon.
The spell combination that Blake used, the three spell combination was not a new combination of spells.
In fact, Blake had used it before, despite having only used it once.
And those three spells were the circular earth wall spell, the darkness binding spell, and the darkness spikes spell.
Yes, it was the same exact combination of spells that he used to deal with the brownish demon. Which was also the combination of spells that earned him the sweetest tasting soul that he ever had in his whole life.
