Chapter 101
101 Variant? (1)
With thousands of darkness tendrils sprouting from the ground and about hundreds of them targeting one humanoid demon each, it didn’t take long for the three humanoid demons that were hesitant to ditch Blake away to be stabbed by those hundreds of darkness spikes.
And with the humanoid demon’s physique being similar to Blake’s, which means no exoskeleton to cover their bodies, the darkness spikes were having a field day penetrating and making holes in those humanoid demons’ bodies.
On the other hand, the one humanoid demon that wasn’t hesitant when it felt the unimaginable amount of darkness element in the surroundings and ran away had a slightly better condition compared to the others.
Due to its moving speed that was enhanced by the wings making its body lighter, the sole humanoid demon was able to dodge the earlier darkness tendrils from coming after it as the speed that the humanoid demon was going was not slower than the huge crow when it flapped its wings.
However, different from the huge crow that flew high up in the sky, free from any obstructions, and added with the wings that were able to carry it freely flying in all directions that it wanted, the sole humanoid demon didn’t have those luxuries.
First, he was moving on the ground, particularly on a lush forest filled with 15 to 20 meters tall trees with their huge roots popping up and firmly planted on the ground.
And not only that, but there were also man-sized bushes, boulders, and craters on the ground to top it all off.
And second, the sole humanoid demon that made the right decision to run off, didn’t have fully functioning wings.
It might be able to use the wing’s ability to make its body lighter and move faster, but the wings weren’t capable of taking him into the air, nor it had the ability to flap and generate a pushing force for the humanoid demon to instantly change the trajectory of its movements.
.....
So even though the humanoid demon succeeded in dodging the initial darkness tendrils from piercing its body, the moment the humanoid demon was met with a large tree trunk that blocked its way, it soon followed after the other tree humanoid demons’ fate.
With a huge tree blocking its way, the humanoid demon was forced to either break through the tree or dodge it by moving sideways.
And without a body strong enough to break through tree trunks, of course, it chose the latter option.
But choosing the latter option means that it needed to take its time and spend the effort to stop the huge momentum forward that it carried.
And that small amount of pause was all that the darkness tendrils needed to do their job.
Starting from a single darkness tendril piercing its thigh, completely breaking the humanoid demon’s body’s balance, the others soon all came crashing down on the humanoid demon.
Blake had grown tired of seeing this scene dozens if not a hundred times already playing in front of him as it was his main way of defeating his enemies.
But for Blake’s victims, it was their first and last memory of seeing hundreds of person-long needles made out of pure darkness element stabbing themselves and others around them.
And for the humanoid demons that were more aware of their own feelings compared to the demonic beasts, the fear that they felt in their hearts was more apparent and real as they felt the pain all over their bodies and the horror that they saw with their own eyes.
Which Blake would definitely love to happen as the four souls that he would be getting from the four humanoid demons would have a slight sweet taste to them.
The three humanoid demons that were caught in the myriad of darkness tendril spells earlier than the sole humanoid demon, as expected, died as soon as the spell stopped manifesting, and their bodies were soon filled with darkness spikes.
However, the one humanoid demon that could either be considered lucky or unlucky to barely survive the ordeal, was still barely hanging onto its life despite the many darkness tendrils stabbed into its body.
In any other circumstances, Blake would have taken his time and experimented thoroughly on the surviving humanoid demon as he wanted to find out whether Vera’s and his guess about the sweet taste of the soul really came from the extreme emotion particularly fear that the humanoid demons carried when they died.
Blake would take his time to try his best and make the surviving humanoid demon die of pure shock and fear like the brownish demon to see whether it would also give a very sweet addicting taste to its soul.
However, Blake still had the brain to know it was not the time to do it.
There were still 21 other humanoid demons on the back of the four humanoid demons, and wasting his time with a single humanoid demon was not an option that he could take even if he wanted to.
So Blake quickly drew a darkness bullet spell and aimed it at the surviving humanoid demon’s skull to end the humanoid demon’s life quickly so that he could chase after Robus.
But even before Blake started drawing the darkness bullet rune, the surviving humanoid demon looked at him with fear filling his eyes before it opened up its mouth, squeezing out the very last remaining air in its lungs before it screamed with every fiber of its being,
“VAGHRIANT!!!”
The moment that word came out of the humanoid demon’s mouth, the darkness bullet spell manifested and shot through the humanoid demon’s skull, killing it instantly.
The words that came out of the humanoid demon’s mouth were still not very clear to Blake’s ears.
However, with him being very close to the humanoid demon and the fact that it only uttered a single word, Blake could definitely make out what it was screaming on its last breath.
At first, Blake thought that he heard things wrong, but after thinking about it and remembering the exact words that came out of the humanoid demon’s mouth, there’s only one word that came to Blake’s mind.
‘Variant...?’
